2. PURPOSE
To observe osmosis
in a cell
1) Place eggs in
vinegar to remove
the shell
2) Measure weight
of the egg using a
balance
3. PURPOSE
3)Measure the size
of the egg using
string and measure
tape
4) Place one egg in
corn syrup, place the
other egg in water
5) Weigh and
measure the eggs
again.
6. MATERIALS
Eggs
Corn
Syrup
Balance
2 Beakers
String and measuring tape
Water
Vinegar
7. OBSERVATIONS
Before After
Corn Weight – 67 Weight – 44
Syrup Egg grams grams
Size – 16.1 cm Size – 13.2 cm
Before After
Water Weight – 77.4 Weight – 91.9
Egg grams grams
Size – 16 cm Size – 17.5 cm
8. OBSERVATIONS
1. There is bubbles rising
up
2. More bubbles and eggs
are floating
3. Egg still floating and
foam on top
4. Egg no longer has a
shell
Corn Syrup after 24
hours: Egg looks
shrivelled up
Water after 24 hours: Egg
has sunk and is larger
9. CONCLUSION
1) Corn Syrup Egg got smaller
because water moved out of
the egg. This was due to the
fact that the egg had a higher
concentration of water. The
water moved from higher
concentration(egg) to lower
concentration(corn syrup).
2) Water Egg got larger because
water moved into the egg. This
was due to the fact that the
egg had a lower concentration
of water than the water. The
water moved from higher
Corn Syrup Egg and Water Egg concentration(water) to lower
concentration(egg).
