Definition : “Nail lacquers are viscous preparations
intended to decorate nails of fingersand toes”.
Ideal Characteristics-
• It should have proper viscosity and flow properties.
• It should have uniform colour.
• Itshould havegood glossand good adhesive
properties.
• Itshould not produce crack.
• Itshould have reasonabledrying time (1-2 minutes) .

Film forming substances-
Impart hardness, toughness, resistance to abrasion
Eg. cellulose acetate , cellulose acetate butylate ,
ethyl cellulose.
Resins-
It impart adhesionand improve gloss , help indispersing
insoluble pigments. Eg. Alkyl resins.

Plasticizers-
•Plasticizers imparts thegloss adhesion to the nail &reduces
its tendency toshrink.Eg.castor oil.
Colours-
The colouring agents should dispersewell ,should be
resistant to light , acids and alkali found in detergents
,should be non-staining and produce a good gloss.Eg.
Eosin, erythrosine, carmosine

Definition : Nail removers / nail cleansers are defined
as the mixture of solvents containing small amounts of
fat intended to remove the nailenamel.
Ideal Characteristics:
Itshould not be toovolatile toevaporateduring
application.
It should not be non-irritating.
Itshould not leave the nails fattyorsticky.
It should not have unpleasant odour.
