How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation pages?
1. How did you use media technologies in
the construction and research, planning
and evaluation pages?
SOPHIE MCGREGOR
2. FRONTER
This is the main program that we will be using to digitally upload our coursework on to. I am
going to form different pages in order to show my work, these will be split into the
sections research, planning, construction and evaluation.
As I have developed my skills on fronter I have been able to use it to embed codes so that I
can create other technologies like youtube videos and slide share and transfer them to be
a part of my work.
I have demonstrated my use of fronter:
In my evaluation when I have embedded voki and prezzi
Research, for my STAs and research findings
Construction to upload our trailer and ancillary task
Overall, to create all the different links to navigate round my course work.
3. Photoshop
Photoshop allows me to create effective and
professional products like the poster and
magazine from my ancillary tasks which
shows how this program can be developed
to create products that are seen to be
professional as of the amount of range it
offers.
For the ancillary task we blacked out Taylors
eyes by going over them with a smudge tool
so that the darkness from the natural
shadow into her eyes so that it didn’t look a
miss. The next step we took was to take an
image of our antagonist and place it in to
her eyes to look as though Taylor was
looking at her. We adjusted the opacity so
that the image looked as though it was being
reflected in her eyes and we also erased the
image to the size and shape we needed it to
be to fit into the eyes.
4. SLIDESHARE
This is a program I have used to present my
work electronically on power points. I am
using it now in my evaluation to show key
points about the digital technologies that I
have used through out my coursework.
Another time in which I have used power point
was to show the categories of the age
certificates and the key points of what makes
a film that age certificate.
A PowerPoint is unloaded to the slide share
website and then a link is embedded on the
coursework page on Fronter. It is a simple
program that is easy to demonstrate short
pieces of information
5. PAINT & WORD
Paint and word are software programs which are installed onto nearly every computer but
they are quite a simple program to use. I have used these programmes create screen shots
which I have needed to upload to demonstrate my work as well as using it to crop images.
Once I have cropped an image on word I transfer the image to word and save the image as a
JPEG so that I can upload the image to Fronter.
I also use word to type up my coursework like STAs, proposal document and my evaluation
questions as this allows me to save the document and have a back up once I have uploaded
it in case I loose any of the work or Fronter crashes.
6. VOTING POLLS
When I was researching my target audience I
used voting polls on my questionnaire so that
my target audience could tell me what they
expected to see in a teen drama. This allowed
me to see the results of the questionnaire
quickly and efficiently.
The voting polls allowed for the questionnaire to
be less bias as the interviewer, my group,
wasn’t able to influence any of the answers
and it was less time consuming as a large
amount of people could answer the questions
at one point.
This allowed me and my group to gain
knowledge of what a large amount of the
Target audience was wanted and expecting to
see from a teen drama/
7. FINAL CUT PRO X
This program was one of the main programs we used to edit our trailer. It included loads of
effects in which made our trailer have a sense of professionalism in them. The program
was also very accurate when cutting and fiddling with little bits of clips that were not
right. After we had all of our footage and had chosen our soundtrack we tried to fit it all in
and get it to the rhythm of the music. However, at the start we couldn’t get it to be in time
but with final cut we were able to reverse the audio track which allowed us to be able to fit
our footage in with it in time to the music and created soundtrack which was weird and
fitted with our narrative.
Final cut allowed us to bring our ideas to reality with all the effects, visual and auditory. We
added suspense when we wanted to build a climax in the middle with a cymbal effect but
reverse the audio to create that effect. But also, as we wanted to demonstrate
schizophrenia in our trailer we were able to merge two pieces of footage by using split
screen we enabled us to show a context and understanding of the context more fluently.
In our research, specifically STAs we found that every trailer would show their footage in a
letterbox effect. We were influenced by this convention and added it to our trailer as we
thought it added a sense of professionalism.
9. VOKI & PREZZI
For these I used to reinforce or present my answer in my
evaluation. Prezzi allows you to create short points
and bounce around ideas that have led you to answer
the question. A Prezzi is very flexible as it allows you
to upload media like videos from YouTube and
images from the internet or uploaded and it can be
move around freely. The combination of steps in
which you move around the page is very free and
exciting.
The voki’s that I have used in my evaluation represent
people from my target audience for the comments
that were made by them in the showcase. It brings to
life comments about our work as it seems more
realistic and shows what criticism and praise we
formed our final product from. The voki is an easy
tool to use in that you can just add some text and
choose a fun character and it speaks it. Although the
disadvantage to this is that it has to be used in
addition to an answer rather than giving an answer
the automated voice would be quite uninteresting if
spoken in large volumes.
