1. What Is A Mole?
In one minute or less!
Glenn Fay
2. A mole is a unit of measurement.
Like a dozen, a pair or a trio.
3. How many particles in a mole?
602,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 particles per mole!
That is: 6.02 x 1023 particles/mol
Notice we use scientific notation and abbreviate mole with
an mol.
4. What is the mass?
Look at the periodic table to find out. The atomic masses are
listed under each element. That number is the mass in
grams of one mole of that element.
For carbon, C. it is 12 grams/1 mole. The molar mass is 12
grams per mole or g/mol.
For magnesium, Mg, it is 24.3 g/mol
5. How much space?
If it is a gas, a mole always occupies 22.4 Liters of space at
standard temperature and pressure.
Molar volume = 22.4 L/mol @ STP
