2. Classifying Triangles
Triangles are classified by their side lengths and their angle
measures as follows:
• By side length
– equilateral – all sides congruent (equal)
– isosceles – two or more sides congruent
– scalene – no sides congruent
• By angle measure
– acute – all acute angles
– right – one right angle
– obtuse – one obtuse angle
– equiangular – all angles congruent

5. Converse of the Pythagorean Theorem
If a2 + b2 = c2, then the triangle is a right triangle.
Another way to think of this is
Pythagorean Inequalities Theorem
If then the triangle is an obtuse triangle.
If then the triangle is an acute triangle.
