Research & Planning 20 – this covers all aspects of the work done
up until the point where you start filming
Production 60 – covers the filming and editing of the
sequence
Evaluation 20 – answers to the question set by the exam
board
THE BRIEF
Working in production groups of no less than 3 and no more than 4, produce the
opening sequence of a new teen-oriented film, including the titles (approximately two
minutes duration).
Research & Planning – tasks to be completed:
1. Textual analysis on opening sequences in films – Blog
2. Analysis of narrative structure and use of narrative codes in film - PowerPoint
presentation – embedded into blog
3. Research into audience tastes, genre and film classification - photos / videos
on blog
4. Completed treatment sheet – Word document – embedded onto blog
5. Draft screenplay – Word document – embedded onto blog
6. Revised screenplay – Word document – embedded onto blog
7. Storyboard – can be drawn or photographed
8. Animatic – a filmed storyboard - to be submitted as a DVD extra
9. Shooting schedule – who / what / where / when – to be submitted as a Word
document – embedded onto blog
Production – tasks to be completed:
1. Preliminary shooting exercise
2. Shooting of material to form the sequence
3. Editing of the shot material to achieve a ‘final cut’ of the opening sequence
Evaluation – tasks to be completed:
• Answering the evaluation questions presented on a blog with links to or
embedded into the blog video and sound files
