employer alleging that the plan created sex discrimination under Title VII. However, the Supreme
Court held that the plan was not discriminatory and found that pregnancy was not a disease but rather

Black Men and Public Space
Cesar Augusto Gonzalez Professor Hargett English 1101 October 14, 2010 Vicious Cycle Throughout
history, literature has served as a way of expression. Human beings have poured out their feelings onto
paper, as long as there have been people interested in them. Common themes have risen through the
ages, such as the contrast between light and dark. Darkness is known for its negative undertone. In
earlier times, we saw darkness as an interpretation of evil; likewise, light represented God and all
good. From literature we, as a society, have built what later became social rules, giving rise to things
such as prejudice. In Brent Staples essay Black Men and Public Space this is clearly shown by the
authors own experiences of antipathy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fear is accompanied by a need for survival. Some animals grow being dominant, creating fear to
control. Other just decide to hide hoping not to be involved into precarious situations. In Black Men
and Public Space , Staples describes, I chose, perhaps unconsciously, to remain a shadow timid, but a
survivor (568). Staples explain that he took the smaller animal path and tries to remain un
recognizable in order for him to have a safer journey around avoiding confrontation. Is easier to hide
that to fight but in the long run that easiness brings other problems, where self blame can evolve to
depression and self depreciation. It comes a time in every man s life when he has to choose between
himself and society. When he has to decide whether to stand on his own or simply hide his true self in
order to escape confrontation, arguments and possible rejection. Most people have a tendency to go
with the flow be just like everyone else. Staple writes, I now take precautions to make myself less
threatening (568). This quote describes the idea previously expressed. He chooses to alter his image to
make his journey safer. In order to add this newer safer self, he must subtract what he was before,
losing his identity. In Staples essay Black Men and Public Space , big issues are explored and
described in a way that we can relate to without getting

Genesis 2 Vs Genesis 2
In Genesis 1, the chapter describes how the heavens and earth are created. The earth preexisted. In
Genesis 1:2, The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And
the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. God formed the light and brought
positivity to the dark world. In Genesis 2, the chapter describes the creation of man and woman. The
Lord created the Garden of Eden and made the man. At the end of the chapter of Genesis 2, a woman
was created out of man s rib.
The similarities of both chapters were the creations. God created sky, man, woman, animals,
vegetables, and birds. The two creation stories do not have many similarities. I believe each creation
opposed one another. The additions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Israel?
The reign of King David is very well known throughout history. David was born in 907 BCE. He
reigned as king for 40 years. David reigned seven years in Hebron and thirty three years in Jerusalem.
His son was Solomon, who reigned after his father. David died at age 70 and was buried in Mount
Zion. Initially, David did not seek for kingship, but was appointed by the Israelites. King David s first
action was when he marched into Jerusalem with the Israelites. Following the conquer, he made the
city into his capital. King David moved the Ark to Jerusalem with intentions to build a temple.
However, it was rejected by God because King David s hands were full of blood. His son Solomon
was appointed to build the temple. King David united the twelve tribes of Israel. He succeeded in war

Pros And Cons Of The Witch Trials

people they deemed as inferior . The Angel of Death Josef Mengele was fascinated with twins and
conducted many experiments on them because they were natural controls . In the 1930s, German
medical schools led such experiments in eugenics and promoted the concept of the Aryan purity.
Mengele performed experiments such as: blood transfusions between twins, stitched two twins
together as conjoined twins, electric shock, exposing women to high radiation subjecting them for
sterilization, and even tossing escaped Jewish children in pits of burning gasoline. He escaped war
criminal charges throughout the entirety of his life. After World War Two, German physicians pleaded
that what they had done should not be considered war crimes because they had only been following
orders and were not very different from what American physicians would do to captives. The
Nuremberg trials created ten principles for ethical experimentation and that anyone should freely
consent to participation. Similarly, American researchers experimented on orphans, inmates, mental
institution patients, and military personnel. Soldiers were unknowingly introduced to mustard gas

Myrtle Carter Creative Writing
Such an unusual time, this minute of sleeping. It s around noon, half past eleven, and the room was so
quiet that if you were to listen close you could hear little ants running across to reach the crumbs that
had scattered beneath the counter and onto the floor. The walls are quiet, too, with nothing to watch,
they close their eyes and rest soundly. The lamps bleed light into the room, but as time passes, the
bulbs dim with death and eventually burn out. Summer is coming, the season of getting old, when hair
is damaged by chlorine in the blue pools and skin grows pale underneath the outlines of swimsuits and
t shirts stick to the sweating backs of the working people. The sun from last year had already made the
white walls pale enough to leave outlines of frames hung up, artwork and photos from the years
permanently engrained into the room. As the room sleeps, the walls sweat, and the floors sigh under

Myrtle sets the paper down suddenly and clears her throat. I don t want the blue car, she says.
Well, Carter says, sighing and taking a timid sip from his glass. He licks the rim to keep a drop from

Myrtle almost laughs. No, she corrects. It s our decision.

from Zhao Zhenkai s poem, One Step . Zhao Zhenkai is a poet from Beijing, China who writes under

interesting. He was born in 1949 during the communist revolution. He grew up under communism and
experienced the Cultural Revolution. Zhao became a prominent leader of the democracy movement,

The diction in this poem relates to how the author views his country as poisonous and negligent. He
says that things are filled with blind toadstools (Zhenkai, Language 147). Zhao views his government
officials as poisonous like toadstool fungi. He has no faith in his leaders and wants a change. The
author makes allusions to outside situations so that readers can better relate to China s condition. He
states that while trampling the flowers, the dandelion grows secretly (Zhenkai, Language 147). This is
saying that while the Chinese officials are trampling over the country, the democratic leaders are
flourishing. Their ideas would soon be heard and spread. The tone in Language is very similar to the
tone in One Step . The poem is simplistic and meaningful while having a harsh tone. It uses words
such as flimsy, trample, and collapse to describe China (Zhenkai, Language 147). Overall the poem is
impactful and well written. It will allow readers to see that it s good to voice their opinions. Zhenkai s

Leslie Marmon Silko s The Border Patrol State
Leslie Marmon Silko is a Tucson based Laguna Pueblo fiction author and poet. Having been based in
the southwestern area since 1978, she began to notice the increase in border security and checkpoints.
In 1994, her essay, The Border Patrol State, was published in The Nation magazine.
In it, she explains her concerns and criticisms for the development and enforcement of the US
Mexican border, arguing that it is an infringement on the free right to travel. She backs these
arguments up with a series of anecdotal accounts and experiences, using few statistical evidence. As a
result, Silko s essay becomes very powerful pathos wise, but weak when it comes to logos and ethos.

The next few paragraphs is a retelling of her personal experience with the border patrol. In the story,
she and her companion were on their way home from a book promotion. This creates credibility by
establishing her as a well known author. At some point, they come up to a checkpoint where they are
confronted by some border patrol officers. During the confrontation, she begins to get a feeling of
menace from them liking them to Argentine police during Argentina s dirty war. This comparison
helps push her argument on the infringement of rights by comparing border patrol actions to the
oppressive actions of the Argentine police. It also allows readers who have gone through similar
experiences to relate or affirm their feelings.
During the confrontation, the border patrol officers bring in a dog to check for illegal substances or
immigrants. She described the dog as a small female German shepherd which was treated very
roughly by the border patrol officers. This use of diction paints the dog as a victim of sorts to the
border patrol officer s brutish actions. This acts as an appeal to emotion, allowing readers to
sympathize with the dog. The dog is first brought to the vehicle to check, but shows no interest.
During the search she describes the dog as resistant and showing contempt for the officers. After
searching the vehicle, the dog is made to search Silko and her companion. During the search, she and
the dog made eye contact. In that moment,

V2 Rocket
The creation of the V 2 rocket was a very important and impactful invention by the German. There
have been many cultural and social factors related to the creation of this rocket seeing how it was built
during World War 2. The creation of this rocket has also made a huge impact on the U.S. and their
aerospace field. There were many cultural factor in the development of the V2, one of those factors
was that the Nazis party believed that Germans were the pinnacle of the human race, the Aryan race;
thus, planning to instill fear into their enemies the development of the V2, a long range ballistic
missiles, came to be. (Edward, 2011) The V2 was supposed to bombard England but was delayed until
1944 which at this point England had already been bombarded for over four years by conventional
artillery. (Edward, 2011) Another cultural factor that played into the development of the V2 was the
recession that afflicted Germany prior to the World War. The recession was one of the major reasons
that led to the rise of Nazi party in Germany and the war that followed. It can be argued that if
Germany did not experience a recession, there would not have been a world war or a need to develop
the V2. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another social factor was the fact that the rocket was developed in Nazi Germany. Since Nazi party
was the one that was developing the rocket, many of the V2 rockets were developed by slaves or

towards the war effort. (Hollingham, 2014) However this led several defective rockets because they

1.1 Hades, was the god of the dead in Greek mythology. He ruled the kingdom of the dead, which had

Essay about The Effects of Class Structure in the 1920 s
Class Structures in the 1920 s
The emerging inequitable class systems and antagonisms of the nineteen twenties saw the traditional
order and moral values challenged, as well as the creation of great wealth for few and poverty for
many. The Great Gatsby, written by Francis Scott Fitzgerald, explores the causes and effects of the
unbalanced class structures. Fitzgerald outlines the idea that the desire to accumulate wealth and status
is a common ambition amongst the lower classes; when that desire is reached, the traditional upper
class is challenged by the emerging newly wealthy, which finally leads to destructive consequences.
By creating rigid class structures, traditional upper class, new wealth, and the poor in The Great

Caucasians that he believes should never be challenged: It s up to us, who are the dominant race, to

Geology Personal Statement
Our planet is over 4.5 billion years old and yet we have only touched the surface of knowledge that it
withholds. I am naturally very curious, so the mysteries of our planet have fascinated me. My
enthusiasm in Geology grew when I was introduced to physical Geography at GCSE level and
thoroughly enjoyed the topic of plate tectonics leading me to further pursue Geology at A level.
My interest in Geology encouraged me to join the Liverpool Geological Society and attend several
lectures. The latest was on the geology of Greenland by Dr Maggie Williams giving me an insight into
how Geology affects different societies, even those at the remotest corners of the world. I have also
attended two recent Herdman symposiums at Liverpool University and particularly appreciated the
talk on Curiosity: The Mars rover. In addition, a lecture on the mining of rare earth elements has
inspired me to pursue an extended project qualification on the exploitation of these metals within
China and why they currently dominate the trade market with these essential commodities. This

The Colonials Of The Boston, Concord Area
The colonials of the Boston, Concord area were vital in the beginning of the American Revolution.
Paul Revere and other members of the Whig Party were key in alerting the colonists to the impending
British. The supporters of Revere and his platform made up a majority of the New England coast line,
specifically New Hampshire and Massachusetts and were essential pieces in allowing Revere s plan to
prevail. From these people birthed a militia who were able to defend the land and other materials from
the British and set up the foundation for our American armed forces. This society, in order to succeed,
had to be able to communicate, play to their strengths, and be willing to risk everything for a shot at
freedom. Using these traits, the colonists, with Revere as their leader, were able to defeat the British.
Communication is key The ability to communicate is one skill that sets the minutemen and supporting
colonist apart from others of that time. More importantly, it set them apart from the British enemies. In
the beginning chapters of the book I had the perception that Paul Revere was just a gossip monger. A
skilled horsemen who liked to stir up trouble for General Thomas Gage. Once I completed the book, I
realized that he in fact was a communication expert and so were the colonist around him. Fisher writes
about the tactics and skills that Revere and his supporters used to aide in the defeat of the British. This

will surpass human intellect by 2045 and believes that by this point machines will be capable of
everything that humans are only they will do it better.(Kurzweill,2005). More recently Kurzweill has
explained that his aim while working with google is to reverse engineer the human brain
(Kurzweill,2013). There are however many sceptics of Kurzweill s theories and proof of Kurzweils
singularity theories remains to be shown. (Regalado,2013)
What is machine learning
Machine learning is an area of A.I that involves the use of algorithms, statistical analysis and
programming in combination to allow a machine to learn from its experience. This is done in a
number of ways but all are essentially a computer program that can re program its self based on
external stimulus or experience. In machine learning the program is referred to as the agent.
The first example of machine learning was completed by Arthur Samuel. Samuels program learnt how
to play checkers by playing its self and went on to beat human players who would be considered
above average. His definition of machine learning was the field of study that gives computers the
ability to learn without being explicitly programmed (Muonz,nd)
Recently a more formal definition was presented

And the quick ratio3 indicates the company s ability to repay immediate commitments using cash or
near cash assets4. From the trend analysis5, the short term liquidity level as measured in current ratio
of Sainsbury has decreased significantly amid the financial crisis, resulting 0.66(2008) and 0.54(2009)
respectively. It may be because those current liabilities are rising faster than current assets, or the
firms investing substantial amount of its liquid assets (e.g. cash) into long term investment, resulting a
decrease in the above two liquidity ratios continuously from 2008 to 2009. Moreover, adverse trading
conditions in recession may cause inventory becoming obsolete or introduction of new models by
competitors. Nevertheless, as the UK economy has dragged out from recession steadily from 2010,
current ratio has improved, reaching at 0.66 and is closed to the industrial benchmark Tesco at 0.69.
Present quick ratio of Sainsbury is 0.38, which has improved from

Native American And African Slaves
As the Native American population had been decimated by genocide and war, England looked to
African slaves to provide them with the necessary labor to harvest tobacco. Although African slaves
had the same status as that of an indentured servant, African slaves began to become more and more
restricted, losing all human and civil rights. These restrictions were placed on African slaves to protect
the rights of the indentured Englishmen, and developed a social/political system based of segregation
and discrimination, ultimately leading to the modern ideology of the world, racism. Native Americans
were not spared from the stupidity of racial superiority, and like Africans, were forced into slavery.
Native American slavery though predominately in the Spanish colonies was used in North America.
Though unlike the Mesoamerican slaves, the North American slaves were also the slavers. The
colonists of North America lured Native Americans to capture other Native Americans in exchange for
trade goods and alliances, forcing Native Americans to choose between being the slaver or the slaved,
much like some African tribes. In South America, the Spaniards enticed nearly 100,000 under false
promises of riches, and instead enslaved them, forcing them to harvest guano (bird excrements), an
export from Peru that had a value of fifteen billion dollars. As slavery spread throughout the New
World, much of the African, Chinese, and indigenous culture began to mix together, resulting in a

Hidden Homelessness, A Study By Sheffield Hallam...
INTRODUCTION TO THE RESEARCH QUESTION
Hidden Homelessness, a study by Sheffield Hallam University for Crisis, surveyed more than 400
rough sleepers revealing more than 1/5th of those interviewed had committed an imprisonable offence
in order to get off the streets for the night (THE GUARDIAN 2010).
Niven and Stewart s 2005 research indicates 30% of people released from prison are homeless and
offenders who are homeless prior to custody had one year reconviction of 79% compared with 47%
for those in accommodation (MOJ 2010).
Williams et al (2012) for the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), indicated three fifths (60%) of prisoners
believed having a place to live was important in preventing future reoffending. The Prison Reform
Trust, reported in 2013 that 68% of prisoners considered being in employment on release was an
important factor in reducing reoffending.
The aim of this research is to establish how and why homeless people come to find themselves in
prison and factors that may influence their likelihood of reoffending in future. Furthermore it
questions whether homeless offenders are being adequately supported for their release whilst in prison
by housing, health, probation, welfare and education services. It will consider previous empirical
research in the field from Salem et al (2013) as well as McFarland and Blair (1995) and Pleace (2013).
It will establish whether there is a disconnect between services commissioned by stakeholders from

High Cholesterol Essay
High cholesterol is one of the most common diseases that occur in today s society. According to
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 71 million American adults have high LDL bad
cholesterol. When cholesterol levels are normal, they normally do not harm the body since cholesterol
can be beneficial to the body. However, if excess amounts of cholesterol are in the body, it can become
a threat. Cholesterol is a waxy substance that plays an important role in building cell membranes and
sex hormones (Overview). The certain types of food you consume on a daily basis may affect the
cholesterol levels in your blood. There are two types of cholesterol, which is your HDL (high density
lipoprotein), good , cholesterol, and your LDL (low density lipoprotein), which are the bad
cholesterol. It is critical that an individual maintains his or her cholesterol levels because he or she can
increase their risk of cardiovascular disease. LDLs are known to carry cholesterol into your arteries
and clog them, which can cause strokes and heart attacks. On the other hand, HDL, help eliminate
cholesterol from the arterial vessels and transport it to the liver, which is then defecated with body
waste. According to Sroda, an individual s total cholesterol should be less than 200, LDL levels should
be less than 130, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there are also different types of foods and drinks that can raise your LDL levels which are
fatty meats such as beef or pork, poultry skin, butterfat such as whole milk, ice cream, cheese, and

levels of saturated fat and trans fat can raise cholesterol levels, so it is very important to consume
vegetables, food high in fiber, whole grains, and fruits. It is also very essential for an individual to
exercise on a daily basis to help lower cholesterol

Mr Darcy Irony
At the beginning of the novel, Elizabeth is unaware of Mr. Darcy s affection for her because of his
hostile manner. Mr. Darcy comes off as rude and prideful to Lizzy when she overhears Mr. Darcy refer
to her as tolerable; but not handsome enough to tempt me (Austen 13) to Mr. Bingley. Elizabeth is
thinking Mr. Darcy was merely insulting her looks, and creates a premature opinion about his
character. This is an example of dramatic irony because Austen hints to readers Darcy s feeling
towards Lizzy, and it is recognizable that Darcy is just trying to deny and cover up his interest towards
her. The irony can give readers a feeling of excitement because they posses knowledge that the
protagonist and other characters do not. The irony also adds

Stress And Stress Related Stress
Stress is a common problem in modern day life today. It is a basic thing of everyday life and there is
no way to completely escape it. Most people associate stress with a negative situations; however,
whether the stress related problem is negative or positive, the important key is how you respond to it.
People experience stress in many different ways. Because stress has negative effects, it will usually
manifest itself it one way or another. Stress is not avoidable but it can be managed with different
techniques. In order to minimize risks due to stress is to identify stress related problems early. This is
to avoid serious stress related illnesses to occur. According to Hans Selye, one of the fathers of stress
research, stress is considered to be a combination of situations that trigger the emotional and physical
reactions. The stress response is the reactions themselves. My son studied very hard to take his drivers
permit test in order to begin his driving lessons. He eventually took the test; however, he failed the
test. He was so upset and disappointed for failing the test. He studied so much that he was confident
he would pass the test with flying colors. In this situation, the permit test was the potential stressor.
The stress response was being upset and disappointed for failing the test. This caused him to
experience stress. It took him a while to pick himself up and bring him to the point to take the test
again without feeling that he will fail

The Ultimate Management Challenge For A Family Business
In this week s chapter The Ultimate Management Challenge we read about succession plans and what
that can mean for a family business. According to the reading about 40% of businesses in the world
are family businesses that have more than one generation working for them and will have to come up
with a succession plan if they don t already have one. A Succession plan is simply passing on the
business leadership and power from one senior generation to another younger generation. When
reading this book I learned a lot about the rags to rags, shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves phenomenon, and
why it can and does occur, as well as 2 main things a family business must have to be successful. If
the new generation comes in with the same enthusiasm and values as the previous generation then the
transition to new management will be much easier and in theory there will still be a company for the
upcoming generations to be a part of and profit from, this is the idea of rags to riches. Sadly this isn t
the most common way succession plans work, most commonly the second or third generation comes
in and doesn t share the enthusiasm, vision, or values as the previous generation(s) had and runs the
business into the ground. This trend has many names: rags to rags, shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves, etc.
however it all has the same general meaning, the wealth or success of the business does not exceed 3
generations. Although I find the loss of enthusiasm, vision and/ or values tends to be the most

`` The Merchant Of Venice `` By William Shakespeare
Risk is a situation that involves the possibility of exposure to dangers. Risks exist everywhere, even
the most minute of actions can place someone in jeopardy. It is an inescapable labyrinth that plagues
the lives of all ever since humanity s first existence. Yet it,s double edged sword like characteristics of
also providing opportunities and gains keeps many enthralled in it. In William Shakespeare s The
Merchant of Venice, Antonio, a protagonist, gives himself over to a life threatening contract with the
villain, Shylock the Jew, in order to provide the means for one of Antonio s friend the opportunity to
woo a lady. Over the course of the play, various risky opportunities and events also expose other
relationships as means of satisfying their wants, although not all their outcomes are favourable. Risk is
the root cause of rewards and punishments in The Merchant of Venice. This is seen between the play s
rivals, such as Antonio and Shylock. Also is seen between lovers, such as Bassanio and Portia. It is
seen again between fathers and children, such as Shylock and Jessica.
The outcomes of the rivals plot, namely the struggles between Antonio and Shylock, were greatly
influenced by the partaking of risks. One of the risks taken by the main pair of rivals is Shylock
employing a malevolent bond purposed with ending the life of Antonio. Shylock demands that he will
have [his] bond; speak not against [his] bond:/ [he has] sworn an oath that [he] will have [his] bond.

Odysseus Heroic Qualities
A man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities is the
dictionary definition of a hero, but the qualities that make one a hero can differ drastically. In the
Odyssey, Odysseus plays the role of the heroic character. He is brave, able to overcome fear,
intelligent, cunning, and much more. Many characters in the Iliad could be perceived as the hero.
Personally, I think it was Patrocolus who took on that role, who was willing to sacrifice himself for the
better of his people. Heroes in the modern day are everywhere, but with much less recognition than
those in the Odyssey and Iliad. In addition to that, they don t have to take a 10 year journey facing sea
monsters and cyclops just to get home to be considered a hero. ... Show more content on

Some may argue that he isn t a hero at all, but I think that his heroic qualities, like bravery and
honesty, outweigh his not so heroic ones. Odysseus is brave because of the way he overcame a fear of
his for the benefit of his crew. When Odysseus and his crew landed on the island of Circe, she turned
Odysseus crew into swine, or pigs. Odysseus eventually persuades her to turn his crew back into men;
but when she does so, they were under a trance that she would only diminish if Odysseus went to the
Underworld. Odysseus was terrified, to say the least, but he chose to face his fear for the welfare of
his crew. This also made Odysseus selfless, which is a very important characteristic of a

Jetblue Is A Low Cost, High Service Airline
JetBlue operates as a low cost, high service airline. JetBlue (JBLU) revenues have increased by at
least 5% every year for the past decade. This continual growth in revenues coupled with a growth in
net income has allowed JBLU stock price to grow rapidly in the last three years. JBLU s operating
margin stands at 7.9%, the highest in the US airline industry. JBLU began offering its Even More
spacious seating arrangements on all flights and MINT service on particular flights in 2014. Revenues
from these services have caused JetBlue to have its highest ever net income in 2014. JBLU stock has
outperformed both the industry average and the S P 500 in the last year with a shocking 185% growth
rate YTD. Legacy airline carriers lag far behind this growth rate in revenue and stock price. JetBlue
has added value through its high profit margins and stellar financial performance in the past decade.
JBLU currently trades around $26 a share. Its market cap stands at $8.2 billion, making it the fifth
largest airline in the US. JBLU has experienced positive growth for the past three years. JBLU also
faces some difficulties because of its rapid growth rate. JBLU holds a P/S ratio of 1.9 against the
industry average of .8. A high P/S suggests the stock may be overvalued. JBLU generated $912

The Contributions Of John Stuart Mill
John Stuart Mill was a British philosopher who was born on May 20, 1806 in London, England, to
Harriet Burrow and James Mill, a noted economist, philosopher and historian. James Mill was an
educated man who was heavily involved in an early 19th century movement called philosophic
radicalism, a school of thought also known as Utilitarianism, which highlighted the demand for a
scientific foundation for philosophy, as well as a humanist approach to economics politics. It was this
foundation from which James Mill urged and advanced his eldest son s education from a very early
age. John Stuart studied Greek at age three and Latin at eight, and he was asked to recite everything he
had learned to his father every day. John Stuart also studied mathematics and science for his personal
enjoyment and would engage in long discussions with his father about histories and biographies that
he had read. It is interesting to note that John Stuart was also empowered with the responsible for
educating his eight younger siblings. His childhood comprised of a strict environment of learning,
teachings and tutoring, however, John Stuart felt that he was emotionally compromised by his father s
educational plan. Although John Stuart never actually attended university, by the age of twenty, he
essentially had a postgraduate self education in logic, political economy and law. As an adult, John
Stuart once stated that, out of all of his studies, teachings and education, the element that he

Compare And Contrast The Wife Of Bath And Queen Guinevere
Although the Wife of Bath and Queen Guinevere have similar things in common, they differ greatly
when it comes to their personalities. The differences between the two are probably because of the
different backgrounds they come from. They both seek happiness, but they find happiness in different
ways. A reason for their differences is probably because of the different things they went through.
They have different stories to tell in which the lives they lived. In the end women are really needy
want to be treated like a queen. The Wife of Bath starts by explaining herself as Experienced, though
no authority . She considers herself as experienced because since the age of twelve she s been married
but not with the same husband. She s had five husbands throughout her lifetime. The reason why I
think she s been married so many times is because the men didn t have what she wanted. They may
have been good to her but they may have not met her needs. The Wife of Bath looks at life in a
different way. God says women are supposed to make more life such as children. This may be another
reason why she has had so many husbands. God try s to explain to her that only once in life should she
be wed. Instead of listening to God taking his authority she ignores his authority. This is an example of
her acting as if she as no authority. When explaining the Wife of Bath she can be explained as a
knowledgeable person that s does what she can do find happiness in a man that is wealthy,

Causes Of Job Stress
The Risks of Job Stress
According to the American Institute of Stress, stress is impossible to measure. What may be stressful
for one person may not be stressful to another. There is good stress, which is also known as eustress,
and that is a good feeling we get when something good, new, and exciting is happening. Then there is
the not so good stress which only turns bad if it becomes chronic stress. The reason chronic stress is so
worrisome is because we are not naturally made to deal with it for long periods of time, and eventually
it will start to show symptoms either through your body or your mental stability. The main causes of
stress in the United States is job pressure, and 77% of people regularly experience physical symptoms
of stress (American Institute of Stress.) while 73% of people regularly experience psychological
symptoms caused by stress. (American Institute of Stress.) If you are looking for a reason to quit that
job that makes you miserable then look no further. Other than making you miserable, staying at a job
you hate can have a great deal of other side effects. There are links connecting job stress and
metabolic syndrome, as well as links connecting job stress to psychological disorders and weight gain.
Some people must take whatever they can get when it comes to jobs, however staying at a job one
hates could be detrimental to said persons health.

Role Of Women In Beowulf
Throughout the poem Beowulf, women can be seen as unimportant, but from Campbell s excerpt one
can see how the role of women in Beowulf is as essential as the role of men. Throughout the course of
Beowulf, many men take part in acts of protection, bravery, and sacrifice, but what many do not notice
is women take part in those same actions. Although women s acts of protection, bravery, and sacrifice
in this poem seem to be minor and not as celebrated as the men s acts, they are still critical to the well
being and overall success in the character s lives. According to Campbell, A woman s what it s all
about; the giving of birth and the giving of nourishment. She s identical with the earth goddess in her
powers, and she s got to realize that about herself. The boy does not have a happening of that kind.
From this quote one can see that women have a certain purpose, a purpose that no man can attain, and
this is something that is quite remarkable. Women may not get the same attention as men do when
they achieve something, but this is because what women do is inherent to them; it is something that is
a part of them. Men are celebrated for more things than women are in Beowulf, but the woman s role
in the poem is a behind the scenes kind of role that holds just as much importance. Campbell s
explanation of gender roles in early literature holds true in Beowulf due to the importance of the
female characters in this epic.
In Beowulf a reoccurring theme is protection; in this

Essay about Early American Literature
Early American Literature (1620 1820)
In the first half of the 17th century the New World found two groups of people
colonizing. The first group, the Puritans, had left England after years of exile due to
their lack of faith in the Church of England. With the reading and understanding of the
Bible almost completely laid in the hands of the preacher, the congregation was forced
to believe all the words that the preacher said. This all came to an end with John
Calvin.
His ideas were that God likes certain people better than others and those chosen
ones would get more land and more money. This idea took off with the Puritans as they

All education was basedon religion and through that there was no questioning of God.
Along with this, their faith was based of that of the super natural world. They could
not see God, but saw him through thingslike a prosperous harvest or a winter blizzard,
both of these in reaction to actions taken by the Puritans.
With this lack of deductive reasoning the Puritans would find themselves thinking
about things done wrong if there was a life threatening winter blizzard or reflect the
things that were done right in the event of a bountiful harvest. In my eyes the Putians
were did not just leave England in search of religious freedom, they were casually asked
to leave the country and were used to colonize land that England was interested in.
Much like religious cults of today, they were against major religious beliefs of the
church and looked upon as radicals in their beliefs. Then, coming out, beheld a
space the flame consume my dwelling place. And when I could no longer look, I blest His
name that gave and took. A quote of this nature in modern day society would be
followed by the thought of radical nature in the person saying it. Things may have
changed as far as social acceptance goes, but I see the Puritans as outcasts of the
society in England.

The reputation of some team sports has been corroded by unfortunate events caused by fans, reason
why some people are now asking themselves if team sports can really be good for us. The world of
soccer, for instance, to which many people look up to and turn to in order to keep fit, build their

believe that the violent acts carried out by these fans have nothing to do with the fact of team sports
being good for us or not, at least when it comes to people who practice these sports to keep fit and for
leisure. The fact that the antisocial and violent behaviour involved in many soccer matches affects
many people, does not imply we should automatically

driven to extinction by habitat loss. It has become one of the most endangered mammals in the world,
with only 1,600 of them left (Exploring nature education). Also According to another credible website
about polar bears, Polar bears might not be endangered but they are one category off of becoming
endangered, there are 20,000 25,000 left worldwide (animalpawnation). As you can see the Giant
panda is classified as endangered. There are only about 1,600 left in the world. 1,600 may be a lot but
surprisingly not to many scientists and researchers. On the other hand polar bears are classified as
threatened one step away from becoming endangered. There are only about 20,000 25,000 left
worldwide.Other than being endangered and threatened they also share many similar characteristics.
The giant panda and polar bear are both similar and different in their physical qualities, habitat, and
diet. As members of the mammal family, the giant panda and the polar bear share many of the same
physical characteristics. On the other hand their appearances set them apart from one another in many
ways. To start with pandas and polar bears are well alike and different in many ways. When being

Theme Of Human Nature In The Scarlet Letter
Human Nature Represented Within the Themes of The Scarlet Letter
Law is born from despair of human nature (Diggins). In The Scarlet Letter, Hester Prynne is judged by
moments of passion by social and religious laws of society. Hester becomes impregnated by a man
that was not her husband and in Puritan beliefs and society that was considered unacceptable.
Therefore, society places the scarlet letter A upon her bosom to publicly shame her for their idea of
feminine sin. The novel, The Scarlet Letter written by Nathaniel Hawthorne explores the themes of
guilt, damnation, and love and passion which, subsequently, are all part of an individual s human
nature.
Humanity as a whole can feel guilt due to societies harsh rules and expectations. The Scarlet Letter
explains guilt within society s rules through the character Arthur Dimmesdale. Hawthorne s novel
states, Happy are you, hester, that wear the scarlet letter openly upon your bosom! My burns in secret!
Thou little knowest what a relief it is, after the torment of a 7 years cheat, to look into an eye that
recognises me for what I am! (Hawthorne). Arthur Dimmesdale felt guilty because of the Puritans
belief that adultery was nefarious. Nicole Smith argued that, ...Dimmesdale suffers the most from the
effects of sin since he experiences inner turmoil in his mind, body, and soul all to extreme degrees.
(Smith). Dimmesdale s inner turmoil was derived from his lack of being able to speak up about his sin
and Hester s complete need to keep their love a secret from the rest of the community. Although
Dimmesdale felt guilty about committing adultery because of societies rule, his guilt made him
believe he was damned.
Arthur Dimmesdale is a priest who has to decide to believe the damnation of the bible or the
damnation he feels within his own personal life. Unfortunately, Dimmesdale believed he was
condemned to hell because he kept his secret about the love he felt for Hester from the community
which ultimately, drove him insane. The novel states, The result in this life could only be to drive the
minister insane and, in the afterlife, to permanently separate him from the Good and True insanity
being essentially the same thing as damnation. (Hawthorne).

The Main Causes Of The Woes Of Math Anxiety
The Woes of Math Anxiety Math anxiety is the phenomenon that affects may people, causing them to
feel anxiety or stress when faced with anything related to math. Math anxiety can potentially affect
anyone with the condition at any point in their lives, but it is most prominent within the classroom, as
that is when the math is the most stressful. Three of the main causes of math anxiety are: public
exposure, the influence of teachers, and time deadlines (Curtain Phillips, 2017). Once the causes are
fully understood, a method to overcome them can be created. Firstly, it is important to understand
when someone is suffering from math anxiety. Some symptoms are: passive behavior, a feeling of
being alone, a lack of confidence and panic during tests (Oxford 2017). ( In complete paragraph)
Public exposure refers to a student being publicly wrong, such as when called upon a by a teacher to
answer a question. This can lead to many students, especially those with math anxiety to not speak up
during class as to not make a fool of themselves. Sometimes in even worse cases, a student has been
reprimanded or scolded by a teacher in the past which would cause them to become weary or even
scared of answering a question in class (Oxford 2017). The best way to overcome this issue would be
with positive reinforcement. Placing great focus on their success while keeping criticisms of their
failure constructive gives the student the message that it is ok to be wrong, as no one is correct every

Why Is Courage Being Scared To Death And Saddling Up Anyway
Courage is being scared to death... and saddling up anyway John Wayne. This quote is very true.
Courage is persevering through tough times and facing your fears. These fears don t have to be great
but they can be little things like getting your first shot or learning how to ride a bike. Courage comes
in all shapes and sizes. No, this essay is not about me saving someone s life. Or maybe risking my
own for someone else s. No, this essay is about something smaller. It s about me being scared to death
but saddling up anyway.
One hot sunny day in Orlando Florida, Disney World to be exact, 2011 a young girl about the age of
seven was having a debate with her mother on whether to ride a rollercoaster or not.
Should we go? It seems pretty scary and plus I m not sure I m tall enough to ride. I said
Oh you are plenty tall, and it will be fun. C mon what s the worst that could happen. replied my mom.
Well..... I trailed off as I started counting on my fingers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sun had no pride in showing its rays. As far as the eye can see there were rides, carnival games,
places to eat (with food so greasy you could fill bucket loads), and people. Rides upon rides upon
rides. Roller coasters, ferris wheels, log rides, pony rides, anything that you could imagine. But, they
was one bigger, faster, and more frightening than all the rest. The blue one as Brianna called it. That
roller coaster had people from all over coming to ride it but Brianna was a little hesitant. The
argument soon came to an end when Brianna had ran out of possibilities of what bad could happen
and her mother urged her to take a risk and have a little courage. So soon enough they made their way
to long line. Seconds turned into minutes. Minutes turned into

What Is Quesalid strauss An Analysis Of The Shamanistic...
Quesalid, the very real protagonist in Claude Levi Strauss analysis of the shamanistic complex,
initially did not believe in and even disparaged the practice and power of shaman healing. He began
spending time with a Shaman community to discredit them and when asked to become one, joined to
prove the same point. In his training, he learned many tactics used by shamans to facilitate the belief
of a patient, particularly the manipulation of symbols (such as the bloody feather scrap) and the
performance of evocative rituals. Quesalid quickly became renowned within the community yet, as
Levi Strauss commented, he did not become a great shaman because he cured his patients, he cured
his patients because he had become a great shaman. Levi Strauss was implying it was Quesalid s
understanding and ability to foster belief (within both the sick person and the community) in his
methods working, along with his own belief, rather than his actual curative methods, that allowed for
the healing of his many patients. This concept, termed the shamanistic complex, thus indicates that for
treatment to be efficacious in a particular cultural setting it requires: the belief of the sick person, the
community and the healer. This concept is linked to the placebo effect today. ... Show more content on

This belief is often linked to the manipulation of culturally associated symbols, just as it was in the
shamanistic complex. This strange phenomenon, lying on the cusp of biology and psychology, points
to a critical question to be asked in examining the role of belief in health: Can the manipulation of
belief be used as an efficacious treatment? The answer: Yes, and this can be seen in a variety of
different settings beyond just the work of

Boar, a tavern. In chapter 3 the Sheriff of Nottingham goes to London to see King Henry and Queen
Eleanor. The King got mad at the Sheriff for not being able to capture Robin Hood while having a lot
of troops to help him out, so the Sheriff storms out of London with rage and plans to capture Robin
Hood by hosting an archery tournament. The prize of the tournament would be a golden arrow. Robin
went, didn t get caught, won the golden arrow, and sent a small letter to the Sheriff. The letter said:
Now Heaven bless thy Grace this day Say all in sweet Sherwood For thou didst give the prize away to
merry Robin Hood. In chapter 4 the Sheriff decided to take an aggressive approach to capture Robin

Pantheon Vs Parthenon
This essay will be about two structures that were built by two different cultures. One was built in
Greece and the other was built in Rome. Both structure have the classical style of architecture but
were built in two different time periods. Both started out with the same function. One of the two
structures are no longer standing in all its glory and the other is still standing and being used today.
The building of the Parthenon was started in 447 BC at a time when the Athenian Empire was at the
height of its power. The temple continued until 432 BC.
The Parthenon s columns were of the Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian Order. The temple was dedicated to
the goddess Athena Pallas or Parthenos (virgin). The temple was triangular and had only two rooms. ...

The Pantheon is the best preserved building from ancient Rome. http://www.ancient.eu/Pantheon/
Archeological excavations have shown that the Pantheon, Rome had been destroyed, except for the
façade, not once but twice before it was completed.
The Pantheon, Rome has large granite Corinthian columns. The section of the building behind the
façade is round. It was originally faced with white marble stucco but is now brick and concrete. It has
a large circular domed cella with an oculus in the center to provide a natural source of light, as well as
serving as a cooling and ventilation method. The dome originally had a bronze ceiling, but in 1626 CE
Pope Urban VIII removed all of the bronze and had it melted and recast into 80 canons for the city s
Castel Sant Angelo.
Unlike the Greek temple Parthenon, the Pantheon, Rome s interior was deliberately made to outshine
the exterior of the building. This building has seven alcoves. Three of which are semi circular and four
rectangular. As noted earlier, the Parthenon only had two rectangular rooms.
Relatively early in its history, 608 CE, the building was converted into the Church of St. Mary of the

  • 3. Black Men and Public Space Cesar Augusto Gonzalez Professor Hargett English 1101 October 14, 2010 Vicious Cycle Throughout history, literature has served as a way of expression. Human beings have poured out their feelings onto paper, as long as there have been people interested in them. Common themes have risen through the ages, such as the contrast between light and dark. Darkness is known for its negative undertone. In earlier times, we saw darkness as an interpretation of evil; likewise, light represented God and all good. From literature we, as a society, have built what later became social rules, giving rise to things such as prejudice. Staples explain that he took the smaller animal path and tries to remain un recognizable in order for him to have a safer journey around avoiding confrontation. Is easier to hide that to fight but in the long run that easiness brings other problems, where self blame can evolve to depression and self depreciation. It comes a time in every man s life when he has to choose between himself and society. When he has to decide whether to stand on his own or simply hide his true self in order to escape confrontation, arguments and possible rejection. Most people have a tendency to go with the flow be just like everyone else. Staple writes, I now take precautions to make myself less threatening (568). This quote describes the idea previously expressed. He chooses to alter his image to make his journey safer. In order to add this newer safer self, he must subtract what he was before, losing his identity. It s around noon, half past eleven, and the room was so quiet that if you were to listen close you could hear little ants running across to reach the crumbs that had scattered beneath the counter and onto the floor. The walls are quiet, too, with nothing to watch, they close their eyes and rest soundly. The lamps bleed light into the room, but as time passes, the bulbs dim with death and eventually burn out. Summer is coming, the season of getting old, when hair is damaged by chlorine in the blue pools and skin grows pale underneath the outlines of swimsuits and t shirts stick to the sweating backs of the working people. In 1994, her essay, The Border Patrol State, was published in The Nation magazine. In it, she explains her concerns and criticisms for the development and enforcement of the US Mexican border, arguing that it is an infringement on the free right to travel. It also allows readers who have gone through similar experiences to relate or affirm their feelings. During the confrontation, the border patrol officers bring in a dog to check for illegal substances or immigrants. • 22. Native American And African Slaves As the Native American population had been decimated by genocide and war, England looked to African slaves to provide them with the necessary labor to harvest tobacco. Although African slaves had the same status as that of an indentured servant, African slaves began to become more and more restricted, losing all human and civil rights. These restrictions were placed on African slaves to protect the rights of the indentured Englishmen, and developed a social/political system based of segregation and discrimination, ultimately leading to the modern ideology of the world, racism. Native Americans were not spared from the stupidity of racial superiority, and like Africans, were forced into slavery. Native American slavery though predominately in the Spanish colonies was used in North America. Though unlike the Mesoamerican slaves, the North American slaves were also the slavers. The colonists of North America lured Native Americans to capture other Native Americans in exchange for trade goods and alliances, forcing Native Americans to choose between being the slaver or the slaved, much like some African tribes. In South America, the Spaniards enticed nearly 100,000 under false promises of riches, and instead enslaved them, forcing them to harvest guano (bird excrements), an export from Peru that had a value of fifteen billion dollars. Niven and Stewart s 2005 research indicates 30% of people released from prison are homeless and offenders who are homeless prior to custody had one year reconviction of 79% compared with 47% for those in accommodation (MOJ 2010). Williams et al (2012) for the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), indicated three fifths (60%) of prisoners believed having a place to live was important in preventing future reoffending. The Prison Reform Trust, reported in 2013 that 68% of prisoners considered being in employment on release was an important factor in reducing reoffending. The aim of this research is to establish how and why homeless people come to find themselves in prison and factors that may influence their likelihood of reoffending in future. When cholesterol levels are normal, they normally do not harm the body since cholesterol can be beneficial to the body. However, if excess amounts of cholesterol are in the body, it can become a threat. Cholesterol is a waxy substance that plays an important role in building cell membranes and sex hormones (Overview). According to the reading about 40% of businesses in the world are family businesses that have more than one generation working for them and will have to come up with a succession plan if they don t already have one. A Succession plan is simply passing on the business leadership and power from one senior generation to another younger generation. When reading this book I learned a lot about the rags to rags, shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves phenomenon, and why it can and does occur, as well as 2 main things a family business must have to be successful. If the new generation comes in with the same enthusiasm and values as the previous generation then the transition to new management will be much easier and in theory there will still be a company for the upcoming generations to be a part of and profit from, this is the idea of rags to riches. Sadly this isn t the most common way succession plans work, most commonly the second or third generation comes in and doesn t share the enthusiasm, vision, or values as the previous generation(s) had and runs the business into the ground. This trend has many names: rags to rags, shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves, etc. however it all has the same general meaning, the wealth or success of the business does not exceed 3 generations. In William Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice, Antonio, a protagonist, gives himself over to a life threatening contract with the villain, Shylock the Jew, in order to provide the means for one of Antonio s friend the opportunity to woo a lady. Over the course of the play, various risky opportunities and events also expose other relationships as means of satisfying their wants, although not all their outcomes are favourable. Risk is the root cause of rewards and punishments in The Merchant of Venice. This is seen between the play s rivals, such as Antonio and Shylock. Also is seen between lovers, such as Bassanio and Portia. It is seen again between fathers and children, such as Shylock and Jessica. The outcomes of the rivals plot, namely the struggles between Antonio and Shylock, were greatly influenced by the partaking of risks. One of the risks taken by the main pair of rivals is Shylock employing a malevolent bond purposed with ending the life of Antonio. Shylock demands that he will have [his] bond; speak not against [his] bond:/ [he has] sworn an oath that [he] will have [his] bond. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Odysseus Heroic Qualities A man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities is the dictionary definition of a hero, but the qualities that make one a hero can differ drastically. In the Odyssey, Odysseus plays the role of the heroic character. He is brave, able to overcome fear, intelligent, cunning, and much more. Many characters in the Iliad could be perceived as the hero. Personally, I think it was Patrocolus who took on that role, who was willing to sacrifice himself for the better of his people. Heroes in the modern day are everywhere, but with much less recognition than those in the Odyssey and Iliad. In addition to that, they don t have to take a 10 year journey facing sea monsters and cyclops just to get home to be considered a hero. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some may argue that he isn t a hero at all, but I think that his heroic qualities, like bravery and honesty, outweigh his not so heroic ones. Odysseus is brave because of the way he overcame a fear of his for the benefit of his crew. When Odysseus and his crew landed on the island of Circe, she turned Odysseus crew into swine, or pigs. Odysseus eventually persuades her to turn his crew back into men; but when she does so, they were under a trance that she would only diminish if Odysseus went to the Underworld. Odysseus was terrified, to say the least, but he chose to face his fear for the welfare of his crew. This also made Odysseus selfless, which is a very important characteristic of a ... The Contributions Of John Stuart Mill John Stuart Mill was a British philosopher who was born on May 20, 1806 in London, England, to Harriet Burrow and James Mill, a noted economist, philosopher and historian. James Mill was an educated man who was heavily involved in an early 19th century movement called philosophic radicalism, a school of thought also known as Utilitarianism, which highlighted the demand for a scientific foundation for philosophy, as well as a humanist approach to economics politics. It was this foundation from which James Mill urged and advanced his eldest son s education from a very early age. John Stuart studied Greek at age three and Latin at eight, and he was asked to recite everything he had learned to his father every day. John Stuart also studied mathematics and science for his personal enjoyment and would engage in long discussions with his father about histories and biographies that he had read. It is interesting to note that John Stuart was also empowered with the responsible for educating his eight younger siblings. His childhood comprised of a strict environment of learning, teachings and tutoring, however, John Stuart felt that he was emotionally compromised by his father s educational plan. • 37. Role Of Women In Beowulf Throughout the poem Beowulf, women can be seen as unimportant, but from Campbell s excerpt one can see how the role of women in Beowulf is as essential as the role of men. Throughout the course of Beowulf, many men take part in acts of protection, bravery, and sacrifice, but what many do not notice is women take part in those same actions. Although women s acts of protection, bravery, and sacrifice in this poem seem to be minor and not as celebrated as the men s acts, they are still critical to the well being and overall success in the character s lives. According to Campbell, A woman s what it s all about; the giving of birth and the giving of nourishment. She s identical with the earth goddess in her powers, and she s got to realize that about herself. The boy does not have a happening of that kind. From this quote one can see that women have a certain purpose, a purpose that no man can attain, and this is something that is quite remarkable. Women may not get the same attention as men do when they achieve something, but this is because what women do is inherent to them; it is something that is a part of them. Men are celebrated for more things than women are in Beowulf, but the woman s role in the poem is a behind the scenes kind of role that holds just as much importance. Campbell s explanation of gender roles in early literature holds true in Beowulf due to the importance of the female characters in this epic. In Beowulf a reoccurring theme is protection; in this ... • 43. Theme Of Human Nature In The Scarlet Letter Human Nature Represented Within the Themes of The Scarlet Letter Law is born from despair of human nature (Diggins). In The Scarlet Letter, Hester Prynne is judged by moments of passion by social and religious laws of society. Hester becomes impregnated by a man that was not her husband and in Puritan beliefs and society that was considered unacceptable. Therefore, society places the scarlet letter A upon her bosom to publicly shame her for their idea of feminine sin. The novel, The Scarlet Letter written by Nathaniel Hawthorne explores the themes of guilt, damnation, and love and passion which, subsequently, are all part of an individual s human nature. Humanity as a whole can feel guilt due to societies harsh rules and expectations. The Scarlet Letter explains guilt within society s rules through the character Arthur Dimmesdale. Hawthorne s novel states, Happy are you, hester, that wear the scarlet letter openly upon your bosom! My burns in secret! Thou little knowest what a relief it is, after the torment of a 7 years cheat, to look into an eye that recognises me for what I am! (Hawthorne). Arthur Dimmesdale felt guilty because of the Puritans belief that adultery was nefarious. Nicole Smith argued that, ...Dimmesdale suffers the most from the effects of sin since he experiences inner turmoil in his mind, body, and soul all to extreme degrees. (Smith). Dimmesdale s inner turmoil was derived from his lack of being able to speak up about his sin and Hester s complete need to keep their love a secret from the rest of the community. Although Dimmesdale felt guilty about committing adultery because of societies rule, his guilt made him believe he was damned. Arthur Dimmesdale is a priest who has to decide to believe the damnation of the bible or the damnation he feels within his own personal life. Unfortunately, Dimmesdale believed he was condemned to hell because he kept his secret about the love he felt for Hester from the community which ultimately, drove him insane. The novel states, The result in this life could only be to drive the minister insane and, in the afterlife, to permanently separate him from the Good and True insanity being essentially the same thing as damnation. The Main Causes Of The Woes Of Math Anxiety The Woes of Math Anxiety Math anxiety is the phenomenon that affects may people, causing them to feel anxiety or stress when faced with anything related to math. Math anxiety can potentially affect anyone with the condition at any point in their lives, but it is most prominent within the classroom, as that is when the math is the most stressful. Three of the main causes of math anxiety are: public exposure, the influence of teachers, and time deadlines (Curtain Phillips, 2017). Once the causes are fully understood, a method to overcome them can be created. Firstly, it is important to understand when someone is suffering from math anxiety. Some symptoms are: passive behavior, a feeling of being alone, a lack of confidence and panic during tests (Oxford 2017). ( In complete paragraph) Public exposure refers to a student being publicly wrong, such as when called upon a by a teacher to answer a question. This can lead to many students, especially those with math anxiety to not speak up during class as to not make a fool of themselves. Sometimes in even worse cases, a student has been reprimanded or scolded by a teacher in the past which would cause them to become weary or even scared of answering a question in class (Oxford 2017). The best way to overcome this issue would be with positive reinforcement. Placing great focus on their success while keeping criticisms of their failure constructive gives the student the message that it is ok to be wrong, as no one is correct every ... Quesalid, the very real protagonist in Claude Levi Strauss analysis of the shamanistic complex, initially did not believe in and even disparaged the practice and power of shaman healing. He began spending time with a Shaman community to discredit them and when asked to become one, joined to prove the same point. In his training, he learned many tactics used by shamans to facilitate the belief of a patient, particularly the manipulation of symbols (such as the bloody feather scrap) and the performance of evocative rituals. Quesalid quickly became renowned within the community yet, as Levi Strauss commented, he did not become a great shaman because he cured his patients, he cured his patients because he had become a great shaman. Levi Strauss was implying it was Quesalid s understanding and ability to foster belief (within both the sick person and the community) in his methods working, along with his own belief, rather than his actual curative methods, that allowed for the healing of his many patients.
