The document describes the process of designing the contents page of a music magazine using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. 1. Music Magazine Contents construction By Muhammad Zeeshan I will be using the following programs: Adobe In Design CS3 and Adobe Photoshop CS3. I will create my magazine within indesign and will edit images within Photoshop.

2. My magazine started off with a basic white background. I improved this by adding a black background so the articles, images and other typography stands out to keep the targeted audience hooked in. Magazine Contents Background

3. As you can see, my variation in colour adds to the style of the magazine as different colours are quite eye catching which is efficient in attracting my audiences. I placed this in the top left sections of the magazine near the pug sections to maximize visibility. This will be isolated from other typography to make it look important thus effectively catching attention. Date & Issue

4. I placed a red box out to contrast the box out and the typography of the box out from the back ground. I then placed a comment upon the box out. This comment is related to the artist upon the contents page. This will help create a sense of importance and elevate the image of the artist to the readers. Box out & typography

5. Numbering articles The number placed for the featured article is one emphasising the importance of the article. Also illustrating the value and status of the article and its contents.

6. Featured Article and Quotes I then named the article and made sure to use important, status established colours such as the richness of the gold font to illustrate this. However I still followed the conventions by using the house style and palette of colours of the magazine as it will help me attract more audience attention and allow hem to instantly recognise my product.. Then I placed a quote to accompany the featured article. This will help the contents page interest the audience through the use of a carefully picked quote. For example “Be the greatest of all time” sound’s challenging and this mode of address would attract audiences as challenges and competition between artists result in failures, comedy and feuds, but most of all audience engagement. This will also help to establish the image of the bands and endear them to and therefore interest the audience.

7. features I used the colour red and white to write ‘Features’, I did this to contrast the features with the background and create eye catching writing which will help me improve the chances of attracting a reader. It also maiantains the house style and font palette I created on the front page.

8. Article & Quotes I used interesting and varied fonts (size and type) and colouring when writing my featured articles and quotes. I did this to create a much better magazine through the variety of font and colour. This will interest my audience by the bright, bold and eye catching fonts/colours. Moreover I changed the colour of the featured article typography to portray status and exclusivity. This will separate the important from the casual and regular articles. Similarly to the above, the quotes are in a different font and colour to make the featured article typography stand out. This will help attract the audience and signify importance and exclusivity

9. Featured Articles and Quotes. The articles are written with a black and white colour scheme to make the featured article stand out. This will help the reader maintain interest and attraction to the main article. Moreover the snappy comments will help interest the audience into reading the magazine article. My mode of address is direct and challenging, again to attract my target audience and challenge them into showing interest in the material.

10. Correction I corrected the layout of the typography and placed it into the margin while changing the typography of the quotes. This is because the codes and conventions do not favour italic writing within magazines, possibly because it is difficult to read and blends easily into the background. Furthermore I wanted to line my text up and place it on the margin to make it look smart, organised and properly laid out. This will help me as the codes and conventions are placed and constructed to help create a better magazine which will successfully attract and hook audiences into buying my magazine.

11. Featured article and quoted continued I continue to add the featured articles and quotes. I continued using the colouring scheme of my magazine. This helped me create a better magazine as I was following my magazine’s colours. This will help me create a more professional and efficient magazine capable of attracting audiences in a single glance. This was obtained with the help of the research on music magazines and especially research on my chosen genre.

12. Featured article’s finished As you can see a curved layout was created when I placed my featured article. I did this to follow my magazine flat plan. This results creates an interesting effect. The effect is that the featured articles create a stair way to the featured article, signifying their rise to fame. The featured article which is in Gold, reinforces the idea of exclusiveness, status, wealth and importance.

13. Page Number box Out I chose a white box out for my page number. This is due to the contrasting colour and it will create a bright eye catching box out alerting the audience to the page they are on.

14. Contents Enlargement I enlarged the ‘Contents’ to make it more visible to the eyes of the reader. I did this to enable easy recognition of the contents page to the reader which makes it easy for the audience to navigate the magazine. I also did this to follow the codes and conventions as they are guidelines and their application helps me to attract a readership that recognises the mise en scene of a professional looking magazine.

15. Box Out and Image I made a colourful box out to attract the attention of the reader. This will result in a much better effect which is able to attract the reader to the images. It also makes the image stand out and illustrates the characteristic of the band due to the proxemics of the magazine. The image stands out due to the white background & red box out. I did this to portray the bright & truthful nature of the band, this is where the magazine sells a lifestyle to the readers by the use of artist’s and the Mise-en-scene. I want to make aspirers and egoists identify with my magazine and want to but it.

16. Artist I placed an image of the artist on the magazine making the image large and dominant to portray the power of this individual. Also I wanted to create a sense of status and importance towards this artist within the minds of the readers. This in turn would help promote the lifestyle portrayed in the magazine.

17. Quotes The quote placed next to the image is in gold and white illustrating it’s status and power in relating to the artist. This will help convey the message of the artist, which makes it easy for me to advertise the designer lifestyles. This will in turn increase the amount of profit made by my institution. I also made a run around of the quote around the image to create an interesting layout, one which will interest the audience and hook them into the magazine.
