The document discusses the key events and objectives of the post-war occupation of Japan by the United States. It outlines four main objectives: 1) crippling Japan's military, 2) forcing Japan to pay war reparations, 3) establishing a peaceful and responsible government, and 4) re-establishing Japan's economy so it could become self-sufficient. It also discusses how the occupation demilitarized and democratized Japan by removing militaristic leaders from government and establishing a new constitution that limited the emperor's power and established democratic principles. Ultimately, the occupation successfully rebuilt and reformed Japan's government and economy, transforming it into a key U.S. ally.
After World War II ended in 1945, Japan made a new start toward economic reconstruction as a democratic and pacifist state. Thanks to its highly educated and abundant labor force and to the concentration of capital and resources in certain key industries, such as electric power and steel, Japan succeeded in recovering from the ruins of war and achieving industrialization during the 1950s and 1960s.

From my experience in China, this is a presentation to briefly explain in an informative yet entertaining way the realities of working as a journalist there.

9. The United States aimed to remove the authority of the
emperor and establish a democratic form of government.
Government was based on the following: freedom of
speech, the right to assemble, the freedom of religion, the
right to education, and most importantly, the new
constitution prevented discrimination based on sex, race,
creed, social status, or family origin.
Emperor Hiro Hito effectively lost all of his authority and
became a figure head.

10. NSC – 132 Outlined Japan’s road to economic
recovery.
NSC- 132 four goals were the following:
› No peace treaty would be signed until Japan’s economy
became stable.
› Cut any obstacles that eliminated Japan’s trade.
› Raise and keep high production rates for export.
› End inflation through balanced budgets.
Important to know that elimination of Zaibatsu caused much of
Japan’s inflation issues.

11. The occupation of Japan is one of the most
important events following World War II, because it
completely reformed the once feudal nation of
Japan into an economic power house that it is
today. The occupation of Japan was far from
perfect, but it did bring Japan out the shambles it
was left in following the war. Today Japan has
become one of our greatest allies.
