TRUST AND AUTHORITY ONLINE brief summary This article considers contemporary challenges to institutional roles in a digital media environment and then turns to three broad journalistic normative values—authenticity, accountability, and autonomy, which affect the credibility of journalists and the content they provide. The article also presents a set of questions to help citizens determine the trustworthiness of information available.
TRUST AND AUTHORITY ONLINE The meaning of journalists: ,[object Object]
Question:Who do you trust more? The official news provided by the large institutions (CNN,BBC) ? Or the new media (blog) that we do not know author?
key concepts Authenticity     --Original definition : the quality or condition of being authentic, trustworthy, or genuine.      --In the past, credibility of information was more on organization than journalists    --With introduction of internet, the audience for traditional media decreased ; organizations lost credibility.
Accountability    --It is possible to identify and hold public officials to account for their actions.    --The audience is passive in traditional media.     --Online, information providers create emphasis         on accountability for their information,  associated with transparency.
Transparency     --Reliable, relevant and timely information about the activities of government is available to the public. Openness     -- Governments that listen to citizens and businesses, and take their suggestions into account when designing and implementing public policies.
Autonomy    --The information that is free and self-governing, without biased view made by organization.     --Journalists claim for their freedom as a fundamental perquisite credibility    -- It is difficult to challenge, on legal, ethical and professional levels.

As a student in journalism, what  other values  do you think would affect the journalism besides autonomy, accountability and authenticity? If there is a conflict between online media and traditional media in reporting news, which one would you trust?
