This document discusses SCSI over FCP (Fibre Channel Protocol) for Linux on System z, including defining an FCP adapter in the IOCDS, manually configuring LUNs using s390-tools, viewing SCSI devices and LUNs using lsscsi and lsluns, and persistently configuring LUNs through the distribution's zfcp configuration files. FCP allows Linux on System z to access SCSI storage over Fibre Channel, providing performance and flexibility benefits compared to traditional System z I/O.
SMC-D with IBM z13 and z13s Internal Shared Memory (ISM) provides a highly optimized intra-CPC communications.
SMC-D is expected to provide substantial performance, throughput, response time, and CPU consumption
benefits compared to standard TCP/IP communications over HiperSockets.
Introduction to IBM Shared Memory Communications Version 2 (SMCv2) and SMC-Dv2zOSCommserver
IBM recently announced SMCv2 for SMC-Dv2. SMCv2 defines Shared Memory Communications for TCP/IP connections that span multiple IP subnets. This presentation will introduce how this new capability applies to SMC-Dv2 for z/OS V2R4 and ISMv2 for the IBM z15. The key concepts of the SMC-Dv2 will be introduced along with an overview of how to get started using the new solution with z/OS 2.4. The overview will also cover exploitation and configuration considerations for existing SMC-D users and for new SMC-Dv2 only users. In this presentation, customers will learn about this new capability and how this capability can extend the performance benefits of SMC-D to additional System Z workloads.

FlashCopy makes it possible to create, nearly instantaneously, point-in-time copies of entire logical volumes or data sets. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities, and DB2 for z/OS utilities have started to make more and more use of FlashCopy technology. This presentation will introduce the copy options supported by FlashCopy and show how DB2 for z/OS can exploit them. It will provide hints and tips on how to set up your environment. It will also address common pitfalls, including all the gotchas of combining FlashCopy and Remote Copy Services: Metro Mirror (PPRC), z/OS Global Mirror (XRC), Global Copy and Global Mirror.

z/OS V2.4 Preview: z/OS Container Extensions - Running Linux on Z docker cont...zOSCommserver
What if you could build a hybrid workload consisting of native z/OS software and Linux on Z software, both running in the same z/OS image? During this education session we will discuss an exciting new feature of z/OS V2R4, z/OS Container Extensions, which brings the ability to deploy Linux on Z software packaged as Docker images directly inside a z/OS system using standard Docker container interfaces. It significantly expands what you do with your z/OS systems by allowing you to deploy Linux on Z software side by side with your z/OS software and middleware while preserving a z/OS operational model and z/OS Qualities of Service.
z/OS Small Enhancements - Episode 2016AMarna Walle

Palestrante: Fernando Nogueira Alves Ferreira - IBM Brasil
