Celebrating the the 30th anniversary of the Inter-university Federation of Distance Learning, this panel discussed Higher education globalization: issues and opportunities. Open makes progress. Open access, open date, open science, open innovation , open education resources and open education have all made significant achievements the last years. Open Principles in Education – Building Bridges, Empowering communitiesSuchith Anand
Iwant to share why it is important that we protect Open principles in Education and the vision 2030 for Open Geospatial Science . This presentation will share experiences from “Geo for All” initiative on the importance of having open principles in education for empowering communities worldwide . Central to “Geo for All” mission is the belief that knowledge is a public good and Open Principles in Education will provide great opportunities for everyone. Though the members of our community hail from many different backgrounds, we all seek to eliminate the digital divide and empower all as full citizens and contribute to building up Open Knowledge for the benefit of the whole society . By combining the potential of free and open software, open data, open standards, open access to research publications, open education resources in Geospatial education and research will enable the creation of sustainable innovation ecosystem . This is key for widening education opportunities, accelerating new discoveries and helping solving global cross disciplinary societal challenges from Climate change mitigation to sustainable cities. Service for the benefit and betterment of humanity is a key fundamental principle of “Geo for All” and we want to contribute and focus our efforts for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We aim to create openness in Geo Education for developing creative and open minds in students which is critical for building open innovation and contributes to building up Open Knowledge for the benefit of the whole society and for our future generations. The bigger aim is to advance STEM education across the world and bring together schools, teachers and students across the world in joint projects and help building international understanding and global peace. The project aims in contributing to the local youth employment and its final goal is to develop a local action plan for youth employment for each partner.
The importance of digital skills for both social inclusion and employability has been made an high priority by the European Commission, hence several initiative such as Digital Agenda, Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs, Eskills for jobs campaign, EU Code Week and reinforced in the recently published “Eskills Manifesto” introduced by Vice President Ansip. Ansip also note that Commissioner Andrus ANSIP “the ICT skill gap is growing to unacceptable level”.Equipping citizen from all background with relevant digital skills is a responsibility shared between governments, industry, academia, and individuals. Youngsters, often called digital natives are most concerned. They are regular users of technology but research shows that they often not have the relevant skills to be savvy or competent users. Furthermore as youth unemployment is a major issue all other Europe, mastering these skills is becoming critical to fill the huge gap created by the digital revolution. Education is the tool used by eSkills for Volunteers (EFV) project, not only to contribute to training and to foster digital skills, but also to promote social inclusion, tolerance, respect for diversity and non-discrimination. Our main objective is to reinforce ICT digital knowledge/literacy in order to reinforce social inclusion give and uniform the basis of work of ICT-active organisations, sharing best practices, understanding better the relation with volunteers, and better preparing youth workers and volunteers engaged in this field to improve the expected impacts, according to the European objectives. Therefore, this transnational project is aim to develop a common European framework inside the project in order to boost digital skills for volunteering and promote the exchange of knowledge and best practices among countries, the interculturalism, the encouragement of a European sense of belonging and the respect for the principles of the EU Treaties

Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale warAntti Rautiainen
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.
