Yoga is essentially a spiritual discipline based on an extremely science .As per
the yogic scriptures the practice of yoga leads to the union of individual
consciousness with that of the universal consciousness ,indicating indicating a
perfect harmony between the mind and body, Man & Nature. One who
experiences this oneness of existence is said to be in yoga, and is termed as a
yogi, having attained to a state of freedom referred to as mukti, nirvana or
moksha. Thus the aim of Yoga is Self-realization, to overcome all kinds of
sufferings leading to 'the state of liberation' (Moksha) or ‘freedom’ (Kaivalya).
Living with freedom in all walks of life, health and harmony shall be the main
objectives of Yoga practice."Yoga” also refers to an inner science comprising of
a variety of methods through which human beings can realize this union and
achieve mastery over their destiny.Yoga, being widely considered as an
‘immortal cultural outcome’ of Indus Saraswati Valley civilization – dating back
to 2700 B.C., has proved itself catering to both material and spiritual
upliftment of humanity.Basic humane values are the very identity of Yoga
Sadhana.
INTRODUCTION:
MEANING OF YOGA :
ETYMOLOGY:
The Sanskrit word yoga is derived from root ‘yuj’ which means to touch.yoke.
DEFINITION :
1) “yoga is the suppression of the activities of mind”
-yoga sutra of Patanjali.
2) “by the word yoga is meant niravana, the condition of shiva “
-linga purana.
3)”yoga is to be separation from contact with suffering”
-Bhagavad Gita.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF YOGA :
 Aim of the present review to throw a light upon the role of yoga and
meditation in prevention and control of obesity through:
 Regulation of release of stress hormones
 Reduction of harmful behavioural risk factors
 development of healthy lifestyle.
 The objective are :
 To study the role of yoga and meditation and meditation in the prevention
of obesity
 With particular attention to some of the factors that are directly indirectly
related to obesity like
1) Stress
2) Eating behaviour
3) Alcohol intake
 The ultimate aim of yoga is self realization i.e Moksha, Kaivalya or
Nirvana. This is state ,free from miseries and sufferings of life.
 Yoga offers the goal of life and means to reach it.
 It bring balance into the body physically, mentally, emotionally.
 By connecting to ourselves though the breath , we can bring our
bodies from state of turbulence to place of health.
4 OBJECTIVES OF Learning YOGA :
The Main Objectives of Yoga are -
1. Physical Health
2. Spiritual Health
3. Mental Health
4. Social Health
5. Pure Thoughts and Positive life style
6. Treatment of many Diseases
7. Utilization of Nature
8. A peaceful state of mind
9. Self-realization/realization of divine with us
1. Physical Health :
Yoga aims at providing a number of Physical benefits like ----
 Improved Posture
 Better sleep
 Increased natural energy level and validity
 Greater flexibility, strength, stamina
 Better balance
 Strong immune system
 Pulse and respiratory rate decreases
 Blood pressure decreases
 Cholesterol decreases
2. Spiritual Health :
 Connects us with God
 Connects us with Nature
 Connects us with Om inner self
 Connects us with Real law and Order
3. Mental Health :
 Calm and clarity
 Greater Confidence and generally more positive mode and thoughts
 Sense of inner well being and centredness
 Decrease stress
 Relieves anxiety
 Boost emotions
 More self acceptance
 Peace of mind
4. Social Health :
 Yoga brings about inner peace which makes us Healthy, Happy,
positive, humble, Responsible, kind and most importantly Humane,
which is nothing but Social Health.
 Respect for others
 Healthy social relationship
 Proper adjustment and co-operations
 Sense of belongingness to society
Conclusion :
 The importance of yoga in modern life is endless. One of the best
lessons yoga teaches us is to focus on the present. In recent studies, it
was found that practicing yoga every day improves our IQ and
memory. Everyday our focus and concentration get bombarded by our
modern lifestyle in form of cell phones, laptops, TVs and social
media. Thankfully yoga can bring our awareness to the present
moment and help us to stay focused and improve our concentration.

Yoga is essentially a spiritual discipline based on an extremely science .As per the yogic scriptures the practice of yoga leads to the union of individual consciousness with that of the universal consciousness ,indicating indicating a perfect harmony between the mind and body, Man & Nature. One who experiences this oneness of existence is said to be in yoga, and is termed as a yogi, having attained to a state of freedom referred to as mukti, nirvana or moksha. Thus the aim of Yoga is Self-realization, to overcome all kinds of sufferings leading to 'the state of liberation' (Moksha) or ‘freedom’ (Kaivalya). Living with freedom in all walks of life, health and harmony shall be the main objectives of Yoga practice."Yoga” also refers to an inner science comprising of a variety of methods through which human beings can realize this union and achieve mastery over their destiny.Yoga, being widely considered as an ‘immortal cultural outcome’ of Indus Saraswati Valley civilization – dating back to 2700 B.C., has proved itself catering to both material and spiritual upliftment of humanity.Basic humane values are the very identity of Yoga Sadhana.   • 5. MEANING OF YOGA : ETYMOLOGY: The Sanskrit word yoga is derived from root ‘yuj’ which means to touch.yoke. DEFINITION : 1) “yoga is the suppression of the activities of mind” -yoga sutra of Patanjali. 2) “by the word yoga is meant niravana, the condition of shiva “ -linga purana. 3)”yoga is to be separation from contact with suffering” -Bhagavad Gita.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF YOGA :  Aim of the present review to throw a light upon the role of yoga and meditation in prevention and control of obesity through:  Regulation of release of stress hormones  Reduction of harmful behavioural risk factors  development of healthy lifestyle.  The objective are :  To study the role of yoga and meditation and meditation in the prevention of obesity  With particular attention to some of the factors that are directly indirectly related to obesity like 1) Stress 2) Eating behaviour 3) Alcohol intake
  • 8.  The ultimate aim of yoga is self realization i.e Moksha, Kaivalya or Nirvana. This is state ,free from miseries and sufferings of life.  Yoga offers the goal of life and means to reach it.  It bring balance into the body physically, mentally, emotionally.  By connecting to ourselves though the breath , we can bring our bodies from state of turbulence to place of health.

  • 15. Conclusion :  The importance of yoga in modern life is endless. One of the best lessons yoga teaches us is to focus on the present. In recent studies, it was found that practicing yoga every day improves our IQ and memory. Everyday our focus and concentration get bombarded by our modern lifestyle in form of cell phones, laptops, TVs and social media. Thankfully yoga can bring our awareness to the present moment and help us to stay focused and improve our concentration.
