With the dizzying array of yoga styles being practiced the world over, it can often seem a little overwhelming when trying to understand the differences between them. While many of these varying disciplines may share similar characteristics, each type is unique and not all styles are suitable for every person wanting to practice yoga.
Yoga is an ancient art that originated from India and was developed by the Indus-Sarasvati civilization in Northern India over 5000 years ago. The word Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit root word Yuj meaning to bind. Yoga is the most favorable method to connect to nature by balancing the mind and body. The word Yoga was first mentioned in the oldest sacred texts, the Rig Veda. Adi Yogi Shiva is the founder of Yoga. One who follows the path of Yoga is YOGI or YOGIN. YOGI simply means an expert teacher.

The favorite poses of the CrazyWaiter to do Backstage, while waiting for the barman to be ready, during breaks etc. Most are standing poses (since there is no mat next to the bar), working on concentration, relaxation, shoulders, neck, and the lower back. (updated March 2016)
The term "yoga" in the Western world often denotes a modern form of Hatha yoga and a posture-based physical fitness, stress relief and relaxation technique, consisting largely of asanas; this differs from traditional yoga, which focuses on meditation and release from worldly attachments. It was introduced by gurus from India after the success of Swami Vivekananda's adaptation of yoga without asanas in the late 19th and early 20th centuries Vivekananda introduced the Yoga Sutras to the West, and they became prominent after the 20th-century success of hatha yoga.

5. WHAT IS YOGA?
The word YOGA comes from the Sanskrit root that means ‘to
join’ / ’to unite’ (cf. English “yoke”)
Yoga Philosophy is based on the WORLD VIEW that REALITY is
really UNCHANGING and UNMOVING.
The world as we perceive it – with its perpetual flux – is nothing
but an ILLUSION (= maya).
Originally, there was only one SELF: undifferentiated energy,
infinite, unchanging, and formless.
Then, the process of differentiation occurred: the SPLIT between
subject & object or individual self & universal SELF.
The AIM of YOGA is to see though the ILLUSION (maya) and
perceive the true reality – i.e., the reality that is unchanging and
unmoving
=> FINAL GOAL: to re-establish the ORIGINAL UNION between
the individual & the universal SELF.
