Read aloud every night for
10 minutes.
This encourages your child to read more
slowly, which gives more time to process
they read.
what
This allows children not only to see the words,
but to hear them too.
You and your child can also take turns reading
aloud.
10. Reading with your child
Provide the right kinds of books.
Make sure your child gets lots of practice reading
books that are not too challenging.
They should be able to recognise at least 9 out of 10
words without any help.
Reading diaries! (these MUST be completed and at
school every day)
Ask questions to improve your
child’s understanding of the text.
11. Questions for reading
Why did you
choose this
book?

this book
