One in five female college students will experience sexual assault before graduating according to statistics. Colleges have a responsibility to protect students and prevent assaults by establishing clear definitions of consent, educating students on sexual violence, having a zero tolerance policy, and enforcing strong sanctions against offenders.

assault before they leave college. In other words, there is a fully 20 percent chance that,
between the moment a young woman starts freshman orientation and the moment she
walks in the graduation line, she’ll become a victim of one of the worst crimes that can be

3. Colleges have a responsibility to their female students to try any measure to prevent
sexual assault on campus, properly deal with it if it occurs, and hand out just
consequences.

2) educate students about what legally constitutes different forms of sexual violence
3) stop sending mixed messages by tolerating some forms of sexual violence on
campus
4) establish and enforce strong sanctions for sexual violence.
