1. Write content rightly for websites
With the advent of the web medium, content writing as a career has received a tremendous boost.
Innumerable webpages get created everyday and content writers are churning out gallons of words
to meet up the demand. Every content writers bring up fresh copies from their own creativity and
experience and does maximum to their capabilities to make it a good read. Yet sometimes we find
that going through some websites are not serving as a good experience whereas the others does it to
the fullest. While analytics are taken, we often see that some pages have strong visitor-holding
capacities whereas some others simply fall flat where some visitors maybe even staying less than 5
seconds.
While there can be a number of reasons as to why a website failed, ranging from not so good
designing to erroneous technicalities, wrong content or wrong presentation of the content can also
be a probable reason. I myself being a content writer has faced the situation when sometimes my
content failed to attract or hold the visitors. And for the sake of improvement, I frantically tried to
find out how to put the things correct. Today I want to share some of the simple tips for wrtiting
good website content which I have collated over the period of time and also found quite effective.
1. Go a good research- Please don't stop, read ahead. I know this a very basic tip but the most
important one too. Many times while collecting information of a client in a formal meeting or
through questionnaire, the client fail to communicate all the informations and most of the time the
most interesting informations in a formal atmosphere. I would advise to give a visit to the client (if
possible) and spend some hours with them chatting informally. If visiting is not possible, do a
friendly chat over Skype, etc. That is how you will draw out those informations that are important
for making your content interesting.
2. 2. Segregate properly- Before starting off with your words, take a good understanding of how the
website is getting designed. Ask for the number and the designations of the pages that are to be
added. If possible get a look at it. Website designing will guide you on which direction your words
are needed to flow. And finally, with that huge basket of informations that you have collated, do a
good segregation as to what should go and where and how.
3. Avoid too much technical jargons- Always keep in mind that along with those who are experts in
the field some novices will also go through the site. And making those novices interested in the
topic and finally in the client's business and deliverables is your biggest challenge. While technical
terms are necessary to give a perfect picture and also too some extent to prove the expertise of the
client, too much of it can spoil the soup. People not very much aware of the technicalities may win
away finding it hard to understand.
4. Add relevant pictures and illustrations- Pictures and illustrations should be chosen appropriately.
They should act as attracting and binding agent to the topic and not something that may distract
them. Suppose you are writing content for a client who business deals in tiffin service. You are
discussing about how they maintain the cleanliness and hygiene while preparing food. Choose a
picture from inside their kitchen showcasing how they are making it. Kindly do not add a picture of
a cooked dish which may be beautiful but irrelevant and distracting and have no information value.
Along with these 4 simple tips and your unique creativity, every single write-up will become more
and more interesting and attracting. Write well!
