The document discusses a collaboration between the University of Miami Libraries' Cuban Heritage Collection and a graduate course on 20th century Latin American literature. Students in the course researched Cuban theater collections and chose objects to digitize. They created structured metadata for the digital objects, which were added to the Cuban Theater Digital Archive and the university's digital collections. This project gave students hands-on experience with metadata while introducing them to digital humanities. It also provided subject expertise to enrich the metadata and engaged more of the university community with the library.

The New York Public Library is America's largest public library system, founded in 1895. It has 88 neighborhood branches across the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island that offer millions of books, periodicals, databases, and other resources. The library also provides educational and career programs for patrons of all ages, including English language classes, job search assistance, technology training courses, and research fellowships. In 2017, the library had over 2.3 million cardholders, circulated 24.7 million items, hosted 1.3 million attendees of educational programs, and saw over 17 million website and 3.3 million public computer sessions.

A wiki about quiz bowl rules, procedures, benefits and maritime English vocabulary would be created by both teachers and students. The quiz bowl would take place over the course of a semester and be assessed based on student participation and use of the wiki.

Any organization whose mission includes promoting access to information is aware of the value of digital collections. For the last few years, digital technology has become very familiar in cultural organizations, providing enhanced access to the content. This paper gives information about Ktisis (http://ktisis.cut.ac.cy), the institutional repository of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT). Ktisis was developed by the Library and Information Services of CUT. The paper reflects on the technical issues that the Library had to face in the preparation of this project and the strategy that had to be defined in order to tackle them. Their familiarity with the foundational concepts, methods and tools of digital scholarship in turn helps promote a spirit of innovation and creativity, encouraging digital initiatives within the Library and with external partners. Finally, the programme of events helps nourish and sustain an internal digital scholarship community of interest/practice.
In this talk, Digital Curator Dr. Mia Ridge will share some of the lessons the team have learnt about delivering Digital Scholarship training in a library environment since it began several years ago, and some of the challenges they still face.

CILIP Working Internationally for Libraries Conference was a one-day virtual event supported by Arts Council England, in partnership with Libraries Connected, British Library, British Council, Carnegie UK Trust, CILIP International Libraries & Information Group, and CILIP Public & Mobile Libraries Group. The 2021 Conference explored ways of connecting with library services and sector professionals from across the world to inspire and inform local library services. Speakers from a diverse range of regions – UK, Europe, Canada, Africa, and the Middle East - shared best practices, new ideas, and successful examples of international working projects.

Library collection managers face significant changes in managing digital collections. Traditional activities like selection, acquisition, and storage now apply to digital resources that are vast in scope and amount. Collections have evolved from physical holdings to include digital content, scholarly workflows, and unique institutionally generated materials. Managing digital collections requires new strategies like emphasizing access over ownership, supporting discovery through workflows, and developing inside-out collections that are tailored to institutional needs rather than relying solely on outside content. Space constraints also encourage libraries to develop shared print collections and host traveling exhibits, performances, and collaborations that activate underused spaces.Ndsr art atmia_crosspollinationacross sectors_umdcc2018_slideshare_
In 2017, the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) was one of four US institutions awarded a place in the inaugural cohort of the National Digital Stewardship Residency for Art Information (NDSR Art). As a host institution, Mia selected an emerging information professional as its Resident to take a lead role in building the foundation for the management, care, and long-term preservation of its growing time-based media/digital art collection.
Members of Mia’s library, its Collections Information Management department, and the NDSR Art Resident use the recently completed NDSR Art 2017-18 project at Mia as a Case Study to explore the overlaps and divergences between museum, library and archival approaches to digital preservation and stewardship. Each contributor provides a unique perspective on the project and offers reflections on the impact and overlap of their professional practices. This presentation was delivered at the Upper Midwest Digital Curation Conference 2018 in St Paul, Minnesota, 9 November 2018.

Improving technology, changing students, challenging finances, and alternative credentialing sources have all combined to create an online learning boom in higher education. For liberal arts colleges, online learning promises to enhance the curriculum by moving some tasks online to allow for more active learning face-to-face, increasing student time on task, connecting study abroad or internship students back to campus, adding curricular resources, or expanding access to liberal education. Whatever the motivation for considering online learning, liberal arts colleges are forging new ground in bringing the liberal arts educational model--highly interactive, close work between students and faculty--into an online context. This seminar will explore a variety of models for using technology to fulfill the essential learning outcomes of liberal education and suggest ways faculty might enhance their courses with online teaching.
Digital collections: Increasing awareness and use
This document discusses various strategies for increasing awareness and use of digital collections, including:
1) Creating print materials like bookmarks and press releases to promote collections.
2) Scheduling in-person events such as presentations and open houses.
3) Contacting media sources like newspapers, magazines, and blogs.
4) Sharing metadata through tools like OCLC WorldCat to increase global discovery.
5) Leveraging the web through a library's website, search engine registration, and social media platforms.
Decolonising the academic library: opening the library doors

In a recent workforce mapping exercise sponsored by the Chartered Institute of Information professionals (CiLiP) less than 5% of the survey sample (4336) identified with a “non-white” ethnicity. The overwhelming whiteness of the library sector is well established. Decolonising DMU offered opportunities to address this issue. Experience of this has been positive for post incumbents and library staff.
At DMU our library staff profile reveals 17% identify as a person of colour. This figure fails to reflect the local demographic profile (57% Leicester City population is of a minoritised ethnicity) or the DMU student cohort, approximately 50% students of colour:50%white students.
Research shows a sense of belonging and connectedness with the institution will encourage help seeking and a diverse staff profile to be beneficial (NUS 2011). Although usage statistics reveal the LLS typical user to be a female of colour and more students of colour engage with learning support services, there is a social justice imperative to enable diversity and cultural representation within the library and information service workforce. Mindful of barriers to entering this sector the delivery of a Library Traineeship funded through Decolonising DMU and the uptake of institutional paid internships is offered as a slow burn path to decolonising libraries.
This session charts the development and delivery of a Library Trainee role within De Montfort university Library and Learning Services 2021 –2023. Opportunities afforded to and by the Library Trainee role will be noted and ways of maximising work opportunities through institutional paid internships will be discussed. The positive impact these roles have on the experience of staff within the institution and the role holders, the learning that flows from this approach are offered as a positive, although incremental way forward to making the academic library workforce more diverse.

Originally developed for a History Methods course, this presentation highlights the wide variety of respectable primary sources available to students for use in their research but rarely appear in federated searches. I will conclude with how to find these types of sites and thoughts on the future of integrating these sites into Discovery tools.

The art of work in the age of ??? reproduction
The British Library holds over 180-200 million items in its collection, including manuscripts, maps, newspapers, and other materials. Only about 1-2% of the collection has been digitized so far due to the challenges of scale, including the resources needed for imaging, cataloging, and dealing with copyright issues for such a vast collection. The library is addressing these challenges through various digitization efforts and tools that make collections available online, as well as training programs to empower staff in digital scholarship methods and innovations. The goal is for the library to support new ways of exploring and accessing collections through open access digital resources and collaborations.
