Analysis Of The Book Redeployment By Phil Klay
Through history further and further studies are ongoing into the unseen horror. Some say it is caused
directly in relation to combat; others may say that it is from the images seen. In the book
Redeployment by Phil Klay, he develops several stories from fictitious Marine Corps veterans that
represent veterans one may encounter in the real world. Phil Klay s book contains stories of
relationships at home falling apart all the way to the high stress of patrols as Marines. With these
stories it better shows the unseen horrors of war. Many veterans return home with a serious disorder.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is the by product of war, and people need to know more about it to
help our returning hero s. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD for short, is very real. It does not
solely affect soldiers either. For example, my father, a retired firefighter, relives moments from when
he worked at certain times when images are triggered. However, the modern soldier is more directly
associated and found to have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. As Dexter Filkins, a former Baghdad
correspondent for the New York Times, stated in his review on Redeployment Armed conflict so
fundamentally alters the environment it takes hold of that no aspect of life escapes undistorted: not
love, not friendship, not sleep, not trust, not conversation. Therefore meaning when most veterans
return home, nothing is seen in the same light again. Phil Klay outlines several examples of this. Phil

Medical Animator Essay
This paper provides knowledge about what the effects of animation has in the fields of both biology
and medicine. It also gives some information about what a medical animator is and their purpose in
science. As well as some extra information about them, such as the courses or classes they need to
attend through in order to be considered a medical animator. Information about the materials and
research necessary in order to create a scientifically accurate animation, in which they are showing the
process of something or of any type of medical or scientific event that an animation is needed for.
What makes an animation scientifically accurate, and the science that goes into an animation. In
addition to that, I will also talk about what the perks of animation in these fields are. Along with how
animation can help better the learning and understanding of difficult topics and procedures, whether it
be for students or for the general public. The paper will also include some information to further prove

Government Is An Instrument Of The State Essay
At times confuse is made among state and Government and the two words are used on the other hand.
Government is an instrument of the state through which it does its inspirations. A state, as we have
seen, is a politically dealt with and geographically obliged collection of people that has the benefit to
use constrain. It is a reasonable substance in this manner ought to have an instrument through which to
work. Government is such an instrument. Each one of the nationals of a state are not part of a
government (Shobeiri, S. M. 2007). It s Forms: Governments may take a couple of structures. In
history, there have appeared to be many sorts of government. Aristotle had given a six wrinkle
portrayal of governments three standard and three degraded sorts of government. The three common
sorts of government will be government, control by one individual; advantaged, led by a couple;
nation, oversee by various. In case these ordinary structures are contorted, government gets the
opportunity to be persecution, nobility gets the chance to be religious government and country gets the
chance to be vote based framework. Political Parties: Political social affairs have ended up being vital
associates of government in present day times. They are the instruments whereby hopefuls are doled
out and picked. Notwithstanding the way that they are not official affiliations made by the state, they
are before long, semiofficial as in states underwrite, guide and permit them to offer contender

A Comparison of Alternative Energy Sources: The Need for a Change Against The Clock Energy runs
everything. Energy makes your cars move, powers electronic devices, and makes light bulbs give emit
light. Where does almost all of this energy come from? Currently, standard fossil fuels provide for
82% of the United States energy demand (Bradley et al.). Many people depend on power from a
highly limited source of energy known as fossil fuels. The world s main sources of these fuels suffer
substantial deprivation. The question of what will happen once these deposits become fully deprived
of oil remains a serious issue. The world will fall into turmoil unless a majority of people switch to an
alternative source of energy as soon as possible. Alternative sources of energy typically cost more
economically, although alternative energy sources remain much more reliable and green when
compared to fossil fuels. Along with reliability, with advancements in technology, those alternative
energy sources have the potential to take over the need for fossil fuels and become far less expensive
to harness and utilize. The utilization of these alternative energy sources would not only fix the issues
regarding the Middle East and having to rely on their harnessing of oil, but also many modern
economic problems remaining from the need for oil from the Middle East. Utilizing oil remains the
most standard form of fossil fuels.

Antony Is a Tragic Hero
Anthony and Cleopatra was written in 1607, following the incredible period that gave us Hamlet,
Orthello, King Lear and Macbeth. Although sometimes hard to categorise, some put this play with
Julius Caesar and Corialanus, the Roman plays: all three use Plutharch s lives of the Noble Grecians
and Romans as their primary source and all three have concerns steeped in historical and political
questions. Shakespeare shows an impressive ability to assimilate the classical world in his own terms
and this is partly a tribute to the strength and vitality of Plutarch s writing. Yet, although Shakespeare
alters Plutarch freely to match his own dramatic purposes, Plutarch s power to speak for his time and
place shines through Shakespeare s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even with this conflict, Shakespeare perfectly depicts Anthony s love and dotage of Cleopatra.
Shakespeare uses language to contrast the cultures within Rome and Egypt. The Roman characters
speak in balanced, ordered blank verse which suggests the regularity and order of their way of life .
When speaking of Fulvia s death Anthony s speech changes to perfect cambic pentameter when he
says The opposite of itself, She s good being gone implying his shocked reaction and mixed emotion.
He should be happy that she is dead so now he can spend his life with his enchanting queen ,
Cleopatra but he is not . He seems shocked at word of her death. The same rhythm is taken up in a
greatly relaxed manner by the teasing of Anthony and Cleopatra. Cleopatra taunts If it be love indeed,
tell me how much and Anthony replies with there s beggary in the love that can be reckoned . In Egypt
the characters speak mainly in phrase, showing their casual, relaxed and sensous approach to life. The
conversation is frivolous, sexual and scattered with gossip . Not now to hear thee sing. I take no
pleasure in alight a eunuch has. Tis well for thee that, being unseminar d thy freer thoughts may not
fly forth of Egypt. Has thou affections? The language that Anthony uses towards Cleopatra is sensual
and laden with metaphors like: many thousand kisses, the poor last/ I lay you thy lips

Queen Matilda Of England And The Marriage Table A Dowry Of...
Queen Matilda of England brought to the marriage table a dowry of estates. While, she did not grant
William great wealth, she did possess great wealth of her own. Roughly one fourth of the wealth of
Matilda and William belonged to Matilda. She presented her husband with the ship the Mora as a
symbol of her approval of his conquest of England. Matilda, being well educated and capable, served
as regent of Normandy while her husband was away in England. Matilda made the journey to England
in 1068 where she was crowned Queen of England. Matilda, like many queens of her time, actively
participated in government. Roughly one hundred charters bear Matilda s name, suggesting that she
occasionally maintained full responsibility of Normandy in her husband s absence. Matilda became a
wealthy landowner in England, where she held lands in the counties of Surrey, Hampshire, Wiltshire,
Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Buckinghamshire, and Gloucestershire. She maintained contact with her
family in Flanders and even provided William with Flemish men for his army. She was also a key
player in King William s rule of England, hearing land pleas and negotiating with nobles. Matilda
played a lesser role in foreign politics than her husband. She did, however, maintain contacts with the
Church. She sent gifts to French abbots and German hermits along with open contact with Pope
Gregory VII. Pope Gregory VII encouraged Matilda to bring her husband closer to the church where
the Pope s could keep a

The Eggs of the World Boiled Down
The Eggs of the World boiled down In The Eggs of the World, Toshio Mori writes about 3 men
meeting, one rich, one a poor drunkard, and the narrator. The point of view Toshio Mori uses in this
story is peripheral first person. This use of a somewhat uncommon way of writing and viewing a story
gives a look at events that is objective while not being unfeeling. Peripheral first person gives balance
between personal stake in the matter, but not so much as to lose objective view. This viewpoint also
gives new looks on the characters surrounding the author, giving both personal opinion and removed
observation. Lastly, peripheral 1st person gives a twist on which facts may or may not be included in a
narrative. In The Eggs of the World the use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hasegawa burst out laughing the minute Sessue Matoi stepped out of the house. He didn t (Mori 364).
This is different from if the story was being told by Mr. Hasegawa himself or if it had been written by
a 3rd person narrator, one would have no shock in the lack of a laugh and the other would not be
expecting a laugh. In this way the characterizations change because of personal experience, and so are
affected by 1st person peripheral narration in this story. Personal experience also influences the
inclusion or omission of facts in The Eggs of the World. When the author speaks of previous
encounters with Sessue Matoi, he shows Matoi as a drunkard but points to the fact that he is not just
drunk, but also quite smart. There was seldom a time when one did not see him staggering full of
drink. The trouble was that people did not know when he was sober or drunk. He was very clever
when he was drunk and also very clever when sober (Mori 361). This is personal experience affecting
the omission or inclusion of facts because a if Mr. Hasegawa was telling the story he might not focus
on this point of confusion and if a third person narrator was telling the story, the fact that one could
almost never tell whether Matoi is drunk or not would not have as much meaning. The things that the
author notices are things that other

Shakespeare Mystery
William Shakespeare, considered by many as one of the greatest writers of all history, has an aura of
mystery surrounding his legacy. Shakespeare supposedly wrote 154 sonnets, 38 plays, two narrative
poems and other works. Every great author knows how to inject mystery into his books, however,
Shakespeare managed to not only include mystery in his wondrous works, but he has created a
mystery for hundreds of years after his death. Intriguingly, the true authorship of his works continue to
elude our knowledge. Three points of interest within this conspiracy, the suspects of writing under
Shakespeare s name, how does the mystery stay unsolved, and why was it made a secret, will get
discussed.
Throughout the time that people have investigated who truly wrote Shakespeare s works there have
been four main suspects of interest. Sir Francis Bacon, Edward de Vere, Christopher Marlowe, and
William Stanley hold the attention of the investigators the conspiracy. Why would people think that
these respectable men wrote plays and other literary works under Shakespeare s name? These men
have a wide range of attributes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How exactly has such an important mystery like who actually wrote Shakespeare s famous works,
remained unsolved for so long? First, this took place in the 16th and 17th Centuries, meaning that no
one had security cameras or voice recorders, consequently making any accusations harder to take
seriously. Second, all of the people accused at least for the most part, had attained respect for their
contributions to society and social status, making it difficult to believe if supposed proof was found.
Third, since it has been so long since this happened, people can not talk to anyone who happened to
see anything suspicious, people just have to make conclusions off of what people recorded at the time.
In summary, the lack of ways to prove what truly happened makes it quite difficult to come to any

complete the first assignment, I will complete a short series of tasks to help get me started. First, I read
all supporting documentation on the formatting of the assignment. Then, I read through the
assignment and found some information in the tasks that I had questions on. Knowing the assignments
tasks, I will gather a short list of reliable resources to help get me started. Next, I will look up
background information that I need more knowledge on. For example, I need to look up what the
boiling points and enthalpy of vaporization of straight chain 1 monochloroalkanes are. I have not

research. Using my knowledge of general chemistry and Microsoft office, I will practice data
gathering and formatting, data analysis, and communication skills in this first assignment. For task
one, we are required to find eight straight chain 1 monochloroalkanes, eight 1 alchohols, and eight 1
monofluoroalkanes. Many online databases list compounds like these and report specific or averaged
scientific data. For example, PubChem, NIST, and Chemspider all have reputable data with sources

Tackling Chapter Summary
In a society that claims to strive for gender equality, would it be possible to apply measures in order to
put to an end the mutual exclusion created by both genders from a young age? In her book Tackling
Gender Inequality Raising Pupil Achievement, Christine Forde analyzes and critiques the policy and
strategies implemented to tackle gender inequality. Forde s work is still relevant to today s society as it
deals with issues such as the underachievement of boys making it a perfect text to study in order to
further understand the underlying causes and problems left to resolve. In this book review, we will be
objectively and critically looking at the main arguments within the text, the positive and negative
aspects of Forde s critique as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows the reader the difficulty of the topic from the very start. This suggests that the educational
system will always be more favorable to a certain group within our society because of societal
expectations. It is also clear that because of the engrained stereotypes such as girls are all hardworking
(Forde, p.5) and boys are inevitably troublesome (Forde, p.5) complicates the task of creating a gender
equal curriculum and environment. This is why it is important to realize that gender in education
cannot only be evaluated as an individual variable, other factors (such as disability, poverty, religion...)
come into play and can affect one s education and identity. The first part of the book gives us
background knowledge on this issue.
Chapter two deals with distinct policies and strategies put in place since the 1970s in order to identify
common trends to tackle gender inequalities. Most of the policies mentioned in the text explain that
gender was a part of a more general inclusion policy and not dealt with explicitly (Forde, p.15) but all
do nevertheless try to create a positive ethos . In this chapter, it is shown that although policies did not
have a focus on gender, when children participated in gender played role (Forde, p.17) stereotypical
views would arise. Girls thought that boys got more attention and both boys and girls agreed that girls
were better learners (Forde, p.17) this emphasizes and

South Africa An international team of scientist led by Professor Lee R. Berger, announced on
Thursday the discovery of a new hominin species named Homo Naledi from the fossils found in the
Rising Star cave in South Africa. This adds a new branch to the human species family tree.
Modern humans, who belong to a specie named Homo sapiens, continue to be until today the only
living species in our genus. But 20,000 years ago there were other species of the genus Homo that are
now referred as hominins . The discovering of Lee R. Berger, an American paleoanthropologist who is

The creature, which evidently walked upright, represents a mix of traits. The hands and feet look like
Homo, but the shoulders and the small brain recall Homo s more ape like ancestors, the researchers
said.
It s brain was no larger than a baseball, its shoulders and torso primitive, its fingers long and curved,
allowing H. naledi to climb and swing from the trees. [...] Its long legs and feet, nearly
indistinguishable from those of modern man, allowed it not only to walk upright but also to travel for
many miles at a time reported from The Washington Post Amy Ellis Nutt.
Scientists also believe that Homo naledi buried their dead. The number of bodies, their location, and
the hard access characteristic of the cave makes scientists believe that Naledi species left deliberately
bodies in caves as a way of burying them. This has been considered as a behavior limited to modern
humans and never seen before in such a primitive human, reported The New York Times. This could
have big implications for understanding the origins of modern human behavior.
They may have used tools. The hands suggest tool using capabilities as they had extremely curved
fingers. More curved that almost any other species at such early state of hominin, suggesting they had

incredible rulers of their time. These men represented what a leader should be, and exactly what made
leaders so powerful. Although these two men lived in completely different time periods there are
similarities and differences that connect the two. Napoleon Bonaparte was born on August 15, 1769 in
Ajaccio, Corsica. He came from a respected family, the family strayed away from being involved with

and power hungry, Napoleon was a driven man, never secure, never satisfied. Power is my mistress,
he said. He demonstrated the charisma and intelligence necessary to lead a nation. He was a well

was the roman emperor from 49 44 BCE and was regarded as a great and powerful leader. His family

The American War of Independence
The American Revolutionary War, also known as the War of Independence, began on April 19th, 1775
with the Battle of Lexington and Concord. The American Revolution was a war between the thirteen
colonies and Great Britian. The colonies wanted to gain independence from Great Britian. It was also
a rebellion against the monarchy, which lead to the establishment of the republic [CROSS]. The
outcome of the war was a victory for the thirteen colonies. The colonist gained independence and
British recognition. The Battle of Lexington and Concord was a significant battle because it was the
start of the Revolutionary War; there are many events that led to the colonist fighting back. The war
started because Great Britain was taxing the colonies. Great Britain imposed the Sugar Act, Stamp
Act, Townshend Acts, etc. It was taxation without representation. Many people wrote about what
colonists should do. John Dickinson wrote The Letters From a Pennsyvlanvia Farmer and Thomas
Paine wrote Common Sense . Both were the actions that they believed that colonist should take and
their opinion on the matters. Americans rebelled with the Boston Massacre in 1770 and the Boston Tea
Party in 1773 [CITE]. This caused Great Britain to enact the Coercive Acts. The Coercive Acts were
divided into three parts: Boston Port Act, Administration of Justice Act, and the Massachusetts
Government Act. The Boston Port Act shut down Boston s harbors in June of 1774 until the colonies

The Porcupine Mountains are known for having vast distributions of outcrops of various rock types.
The bedrock is exposed mostly because of thin or absent glacial drift as well as extensive mining
operations that are scattered along the Lake Superior shore. Much of the bedrock in the park is older
than 2.5 billion years and consists of Precambrian to Upper Silurian age rocks. The bedrock is of the
Keweenaw Supergroup and is about 25 kilometers deep; much of which spans the along the mid
continental rift. Figure 3. Keweenawan Supergroup strata by age and deposit. The large rift is a result
of an immense geological event that produced large earthquakes and volcanic activity nearly 1 billion
years ago. The event is a prime example of plate tectonic theory. Large plates along the mountains
continually would shift allowing stratovolcano activity to persist. The volcanic activity left the
Porcupine Volcanics, the oldest rocks of the area, which consists of andesite and rhyolite flows. Figure

Virtue Ethics Deontology And Teleological Ethics
There are many ways to go about a situation at hand and the way you go through these instances is all
about your ethics and how you go about life. Three important ethical approaches that are all very
relatable to the lives we live today are virtue ethics, deontology and teleology. Virtue Ethics are the
ethics that highlight a person s character and traits and ignore rules about the certain situation
themselves and the consequences that could take affect after the situation is finished. Deontology or
deontology ethics take place when one s ethical position on a situation is based on the rules at hand.
This ethical approach can also be named rule based ethics because you are following the rules and not
acting upon your own characteristics or beliefs. Teleology or teleological ethics is theory of morality
that derives duty or moral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am a calm and respectful person who is ambitious and is always trying to learn something new. My
friends and family call me a social butterfly because of outgoing I am and how easy it is for me to
make friends. I am loyal and I keep my promises to my friends and family. To support that claim of
me being a loyal person, I have been dating my current girlfriend for the past two years now and our
relationship only continues to grow stronger and stronger as time progresses. I am mature, patient,
thoughtful of others and always optimistic about everything. All of my personal values, I believe, go
hand in hand with the meaning of virtue ethics. The ethical approach of virtue ethics is derived from
one s way of thinking and what one feels is the best way to go about the situation, despite what may
happen at the end of the conflict or instance. I believe that because of this, virtue ethics best fits me
and is how I go throughout life whenever I m in a tough position and need to make choices and

Physiological Effects Of Obesity
Research concentrated on both the physiological causes and the consequences of prolonged adiposity
has recently expanded as a result of the rising prevalence of obesity and related diseases. New studies
show that understanding the mechanisms of specific immune cells in adipose tissue, the tissue
responsible for storing excess fat, may be the key to understanding and treating the modern obesity
epidemic. Group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) and their secreted type 2 cytokines have been
strongly linked to the metabolic regulation of adipose tissue and promotion of thermogenesis, however
the specific mechanisms of this pathway are unknown. The research presented here outlines the
examination of how ILC2s and related immune cells are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adipose tissue is the specialized connective tissue which stores energy as fat, as well as being
responsible for generating heat within the body (9). The two types of adipose tissue, white adipose
tissue (WAT) and brown adipose tissue (BAT), have distinct roles in fat storage and obesity. BAT is a
major source of thermogenesis, and its development has been implicated in suppressing diet induced
obesity (9). The brown adipocytes which make up BAT contain many mitochondria and express high
levels of uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1), a protein which generates heat through uncoupling of the
respiratory chain and substrate oxidation (11). WAT performs the anabolic role of storing energy, and
has been linked to diseases such as type 2 diabetes in states of prolonged obesity (1,9). More recently
however, an additional subcategory of adipocytes has been discovered, known as beige or brite (brown
in white) adipocytes. These cells are similar to brown adipocytes as they express high levels of UCP1
and stimulate thermogenesis, however their presence in WAT can induce lipolysis of WAT stored fat
(7,17). This WAT browning pathway is an area of active research, as the energy expenditure presents a
potential strategy for treating obesity. The differentiation of brite adipocytes is unknown however, as

The Prohibition Of Performance Enhancing Drugs
Continue the Prohibition of Performance Enhancing Drugs
Sporting competitions either nationally or internationally have regulations to prohibit or inhibit the use
of performance enhancing drugs (PED s). There been a case for the lifting of these regulations to
create sporting fair across all types of people. Craig Fry, an advocate for the use of performance
enhancing drugs in elite sporting competitions and author of Bring Truth into Play by Saying Yes to
Drugs in Sport , is an Australian health social sciences researcher with training in psychology, public
health, and applied ethics. Fry testifies that the positives that would result in supervised PED use in
elite competitions would create a more fair and balanced playing field. However Craig Fry s claim is
invalid, not only are there a multitude of health risks continually being discovered, the use of
performance enhancing drugs would diminish the spirit of sporting and create international legal
catastrophes with differentiation in the creation of new drug substances.
One reason performance enhancing drugs are prohibited is because of the health risks that are a
potential outcome of injections that are not medically supervised. Craig Fry asserts the idea of the
existence of enabling techniques that provide a safe form of injection for those wishing to use PED s,
implying that these safer alternative forms would inherently prevent any potential health risks.
However a scientific statement by Harrison Pope, Ruth Wood, and

My Life Was Breaking Apart Essay
All of my life was breaking apart. And the worst part was that I had no clue of why everything was
happening. Was it my fault? What had I done? Nobody talked to me anymore, I had no friends. Well, I
lost most of my closest ones. I knew it was time to switch the page and move on, but I couldn t.
Everything I did, said, or even heard that mentioned anything having to do with my old perfect life
would bring flashbacks from past moments and thinking everything was over was the worst. I just
wish I could disappear, never come back, or even, move away. I just hate ,my life, the life it had
become. Everything used to be perfect, but now, everything was just one big nightmare. Parties every

so that s why I didn t tell him. My sister doesn t talk much, but that s kind of what I like about her, she
s not annoying like many other little kids. I really haven t commented anything about this to any of my
relatives, except for my cousin, Maddie. She s basically my best friend, the person to which I can tell

Barnes Nobles Value Chain
Time and time again business have observed that as our technology continues to evolve society s
views toward traditional learning often shift. Thus, all business who share market space with other
competitor s must continuously devise new and more efficient ways to keep up with the rapidly
changing technology. There s been a tremendous impact on both retail book stores and book
publishers as a result of digital technology. Although, there is a logical explanation, the emergence of
e business, as consumers have found this to be a useful tool when comparing and selecting products
that most suits their needs. The value chain plays a significant role in the fact it identifies technology

Barnes Noble s new strategic approach should be successful due to its early entry into the e book
market. Their strategy is unique in the fact that compared to competitors they have proven themselves
by current success in this market, but are now feeling the effects of price inflation. By assessing
Barnes Noble s disposition from a contentious model, one can obviously see that no pressure would
arise from the traditional competitors. However, it does not ensure the future of their book

Events Leading up to the First Persian Gulf War
From 1880 1888, Iraq and Iran engaged in a conflict that resulted in much bloodshed without much of
anything being resolved. This was known as the First Persian Gulf War, which started with the land
and air invasion of Iran by Iraq on September 22, 1980. The authoritarian president of the Republic of
Iraq during this time period was Saddam Hussein, who was best known for his extreme violation of
human rights. Ruhollah Khomeini led the Islamic Republic of Iran after the conclusion of the 1979
Iranian Revolution, which ended the reign of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Both of these regimes
exhibited tight control of their citizens and restricted many of their rights. These restrictions are
highlighted in two novels that explore the lives of citizens living in them during this time period. I
jaam: An Iraqi Rhapsody by Sinan Antoon is a manuscript that was written in the confines of a jail cell
in Iraq during this time period by a young man named Furat. Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood by
Marjane Satrapi is an autobiographical novel that depicts the life of the people in Iran during and after
the Iranian Revolution. Both of these people had to deal with the authoritarian rule and conflict
between these two nations, however, there are many ways in which these citizens resisted this control,
which is also explored in these novels. Saddam Hussein s Iraq was one that was based upon secular
ideals. After the Iranian Revolution, revolutionary Shi a Islam started to have a large

Edwin H. Land Invented The Polaroid Camera
Edwin H. Land
Edwin H. Land invented the Polaroid camera and developed many uses for polarized glass.
American inventor Edwin H. Land was the driving force behind the Polaroid Corporation s
engineering and marketing successes. He founded the company to manufacture his inventions, such as
polarized windows and sunglasses, and he also produced revolutionary optics for the military during
World War II (1939 45). It was his development of the instant camera, however, that made his
company famous and allowed him to dominate the instant photography market with cameras that first
produced pictures in sepia tones, then black and white, and finally in color. Routinely discarding
conventional wisdom, Land believed that market research was not ... Show more content on

They were married in 1929, and Land returned to Harvard that same year. This time the university
provided him with a laboratory to conduct his research.
Develops commercial method to polarize light
It had been known since the eighteenth century that certain kinds of crystals (clear colorless glasses of
superior quality) could affect the direction of light waves. In his effort to develop a method for
polarizing light, Land was searching for a crystal that could not only reduce glare but was stable and
economical enough to be produced commercially. He conceived the idea of two plates that would
absorb the light waves that were not wanted and transmit those that were. He then succeeded in
aligning millions of microscopic iodine crystals in one direction, thus creating the first polarizer. Land
presented a paper on his discovery at a physics colloquium (meeting) at Harvard in February 1932. In
June, he left the university, one semester short of a degree, and never returned.
Invents Polaroid
With a Harvard graduate student named George Wheelwright, who had been one of his teachers, Land
formed Land Wheelwright Laboratories, Inc., in June 1932. The two men worked on developing
methods of manufacturing polarized sheets made of crystals trapped in nitrocellulose (any of several
nitric acid esters of cellulose used for making explosives, plastics, and varnishes). On November 30,
1934, the camera company Eastman Kodak gave Land Wheelwright an order for $10,000 worth of

Traditional IRA Definition
After closing the safe deposit box, closing the traditional IRA was the next task on the administrative
plan. Earlier in the administration, while in the interim, I called the custodian of the traditional IRA to
inform them of my Uncle s death. We talked about the account, but couldn t do anything at the time
because I haven t received approval to act as executor. So, at the end of the call, the representative
said, When you receive your approval letter call back and we ll discuss the IRA. After the call, I put
aside the matter of closing the traditional IRA to deal with later. As a few weeks went by and since
been approved as executor, the custodial bank sent me a letter in early December, 2012. In short, the
letter served as a reminder ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I knew a little about the 5 year rule. However, I didn t want to manage an inherited IRA for five years
and run up probate costs for each year. 2) The stretch rule. I knew even less about the stretch rule, but
knew I would have to manage the inherited IRA for a length of time based on my Uncle s life
expectancy factor. Since this option may require keeping the estate open longer than the 5 year rule, it
wasn t a viable option. 3) The lump sum distribution. I knew a tax hit would result, but it s the best
option based on what I knew at the time. Once at the bank, with my decision made, the representative
took me to her office immediately. As we took our seats, she said to me, Have you decided how you
want the taxes handled for the IRA? Even though I made a decision, I was kind of confused at the
question because I thought we were going to discuss the options. At this point, seeing my stunned
look, she explained, Typically, when the estate is the beneficiary, people opt for the lump sum payout
and handle the taxes later. I replied, Then let s do that. The other options require keeping the estate
open longer than required and I have no interest in doing that. So, let s close out the IRA. The
representative agreed and took me back to the waiting area so she could get the paperwork ready. To

Migration of Turkic Tribes
Migration is the movement of people from one place to another to settle and live in the new area.
Nowadays, the number of moving people exceeds 200 million (World Migration Report 2010 The
Future of Migration: Building Capacities for Change. International Organization for Migration. 2010).
In the ancient times the number of moving people was little, but the causes were approximately the
same. Especially, migration of ancient Turks had a significant role in formulation of world
civilizations. Their migration periods cover several thousand years. The most famous migration stage
of Turks was in the II VII centuries, well known as Migration Period. Turkic tribes migrated and
spread their habitation because of three main factors. The first and the most significant cause of Turkic
migration is related to economic issues. Many Turkic tribes migrated because of crisis and famine in
their country. The famine derived from climate changes and severe climate in different periods. Living
in difficult life circumstances, Turkic tribes decided to move in order to find fruitful lands. Especially,
during the Migration Period, in 395, Huns (Turks) moved to Europe because of famine. Moreover,
some Turkic groups migrated to wide steppes in order to find and extend their pastures. While the
amount of people and cattle were increasing, it was difficult to accommodate animals with pastures.
For instance, Yuruks ( Walkers ), who initially settled in Eastern Anatolia, moved to Western Anatolia

  • 3. Analysis Of The Book Redeployment By Phil Klay Through history further and further studies are ongoing into the unseen horror. Some say it is caused directly in relation to combat; others may say that it is from the images seen. In the book Redeployment by Phil Klay, he develops several stories from fictitious Marine Corps veterans that represent veterans one may encounter in the real world. Phil Klay s book contains stories of relationships at home falling apart all the way to the high stress of patrols as Marines. With these stories it better shows the unseen horrors of war. Many veterans return home with a serious disorder. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is the by product of war, and people need to know more about it to help our returning hero s. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD for short, is very real. It does not solely affect soldiers either. For example, my father, a retired firefighter, relives moments from when he worked at certain times when images are triggered. However, the modern soldier is more directly associated and found to have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. As Dexter Filkins, a former Baghdad correspondent for the New York Times, stated in his review on Redeployment Armed conflict so fundamentally alters the environment it takes hold of that no aspect of life escapes undistorted: not love, not friendship, not sleep, not trust, not conversation. Therefore meaning when most veterans return home, nothing is seen in the same light again. Phil Klay outlines several examples of this. Phil Klay is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Comparison Of Alternative Energy Sources Amjed Hallak Dr. Johnson E110/Period 5 22 February 2015 A Comparison of Alternative Energy Sources: The Need for a Change Against The Clock Energy runs everything. Energy makes your cars move, powers electronic devices, and makes light bulbs give emit light. Where does almost all of this energy come from? Currently, standard fossil fuels provide for 82% of the United States energy demand (Bradley et al.). Many people depend on power from a highly limited source of energy known as fossil fuels. The world s main sources of these fuels suffer substantial deprivation. The question of what will happen once these deposits become fully deprived of oil remains a serious issue. The world will fall into turmoil unless a majority of people switch to an alternative source of energy as soon as possible. Alternative sources of energy typically cost more economically, although alternative energy sources remain much more reliable and green when compared to fossil fuels. Along with reliability, with advancements in technology, those alternative energy sources have the potential to take over the need for fossil fuels and become far less expensive to harness and utilize. The utilization of these alternative energy sources would not only fix the issues regarding the Middle East and having to rely on their harnessing of oil, but also many modern economic problems remaining from the need for oil from the Middle East. Utilizing oil remains the most standard form of fossil fuels. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Antony Is a Tragic Hero Anthony and Cleopatra was written in 1607, following the incredible period that gave us Hamlet, Orthello, King Lear and Macbeth. Although sometimes hard to categorise, some put this play with Julius Caesar and Corialanus, the Roman plays: all three use Plutharch s lives of the Noble Grecians and Romans as their primary source and all three have concerns steeped in historical and political questions. Shakespeare shows an impressive ability to assimilate the classical world in his own terms and this is partly a tribute to the strength and vitality of Plutarch s writing. Yet, although Shakespeare alters Plutarch freely to match his own dramatic purposes, Plutarch s power to speak for his time and place shines through Shakespeare s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even with this conflict, Shakespeare perfectly depicts Anthony s love and dotage of Cleopatra. Shakespeare uses language to contrast the cultures within Rome and Egypt. The Roman characters speak in balanced, ordered blank verse which suggests the regularity and order of their way of life . When speaking of Fulvia s death Anthony s speech changes to perfect cambic pentameter when he says The opposite of itself, She s good being gone implying his shocked reaction and mixed emotion. He should be happy that she is dead so now he can spend his life with his enchanting queen , Cleopatra but he is not . He seems shocked at word of her death. The same rhythm is taken up in a greatly relaxed manner by the teasing of Anthony and Cleopatra. Cleopatra taunts If it be love indeed, tell me how much and Anthony replies with there s beggary in the love that can be reckoned . In Egypt the characters speak mainly in phrase, showing their casual, relaxed and sensous approach to life. The conversation is frivolous, sexual and scattered with gossip . Not now to hear thee sing. I take no pleasure in alight a eunuch has. Tis well for thee that, being unseminar d thy freer thoughts may not fly forth of Egypt. Has thou affections? While, she did not grant William great wealth, she did possess great wealth of her own. Roughly one fourth of the wealth of Matilda and William belonged to Matilda. She presented her husband with the ship the Mora as a symbol of her approval of his conquest of England. Matilda, being well educated and capable, served as regent of Normandy while her husband was away in England. Matilda made the journey to England in 1068 where she was crowned Queen of England. Matilda, like many queens of her time, actively participated in government. Roughly one hundred charters bear Matilda s name, suggesting that she occasionally maintained full responsibility of Normandy in her husband s absence. Matilda became a wealthy landowner in England, where she held lands in the counties of Surrey, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Buckinghamshire, and Gloucestershire. She maintained contact with her family in Flanders and even provided William with Flemish men for his army. She was also a key player in King William s rule of England, hearing land pleas and negotiating with nobles. Matilda played a lesser role in foreign politics than her husband. She did, however, maintain contacts with the Church. She sent gifts to French abbots and German hermits along with open contact with Pope Gregory VII. The point of view Toshio Mori uses in this story is peripheral first person. This use of a somewhat uncommon way of writing and viewing a story gives a look at events that is objective while not being unfeeling. Peripheral first person gives balance between personal stake in the matter, but not so much as to lose objective view. This viewpoint also gives new looks on the characters surrounding the author, giving both personal opinion and removed observation. Lastly, peripheral 1st person gives a twist on which facts may or may not be included in a narrative. In The Eggs of the World the use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hasegawa burst out laughing the minute Sessue Matoi stepped out of the house. He didn t (Mori 364). This is different from if the story was being told by Mr. Hasegawa himself or if it had been written by a 3rd person narrator, one would have no shock in the lack of a laugh and the other would not be expecting a laugh. In this way the characterizations change because of personal experience, and so are affected by 1st person peripheral narration in this story. Personal experience also influences the inclusion or omission of facts in The Eggs of the World. When the author speaks of previous encounters with Sessue Matoi, he shows Matoi as a drunkard but points to the fact that he is not just drunk, but also quite smart. There was seldom a time when one did not see him staggering full of drink. The trouble was that people did not know when he was sober or drunk. He was very clever when he was drunk and also very clever when sober (Mori 361). This is personal experience affecting the omission or inclusion of facts because a if Mr. Hasegawa was telling the story he might not focus on this point of confusion and if a third person narrator was telling the story, the fact that one could almost never tell whether Matoi is drunk or not would not have as much meaning. • 13. Shakespeare Mystery William Shakespeare, considered by many as one of the greatest writers of all history, has an aura of mystery surrounding his legacy. Shakespeare supposedly wrote 154 sonnets, 38 plays, two narrative poems and other works. Every great author knows how to inject mystery into his books, however, Shakespeare managed to not only include mystery in his wondrous works, but he has created a mystery for hundreds of years after his death. Intriguingly, the true authorship of his works continue to elude our knowledge. Three points of interest within this conspiracy, the suspects of writing under Shakespeare s name, how does the mystery stay unsolved, and why was it made a secret, will get discussed. Throughout the time that people have investigated who truly wrote Shakespeare s works there have been four main suspects of interest. Sir Francis Bacon, Edward de Vere, Christopher Marlowe, and William Stanley hold the attention of the investigators the conspiracy. Second, all of the people accused at least for the most part, had attained respect for their contributions to society and social status, making it difficult to believe if supposed proof was found. Tackling Chapter Summary In a society that claims to strive for gender equality, would it be possible to apply measures in order to put to an end the mutual exclusion created by both genders from a young age? In her book Tackling Gender Inequality Raising Pupil Achievement, Christine Forde analyzes and critiques the policy and strategies implemented to tackle gender inequality. Forde s work is still relevant to today s society as it deals with issues such as the underachievement of boys making it a perfect text to study in order to further understand the underlying causes and problems left to resolve. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows the reader the difficulty of the topic from the very start. This suggests that the educational system will always be more favorable to a certain group within our society because of societal expectations. It is also clear that because of the engrained stereotypes such as girls are all hardworking (Forde, p.5) and boys are inevitably troublesome (Forde, p.5) complicates the task of creating a gender equal curriculum and environment. This is why it is important to realize that gender in education cannot only be evaluated as an individual variable, other factors (such as disability, poverty, religion...) come into play and can affect one s education and identity. The first part of the book gives us background knowledge on this issue. Chapter two deals with distinct policies and strategies put in place since the 1970s in order to identify common trends to tackle gender inequalities. Most of the policies mentioned in the text explain that gender was a part of a more general inclusion policy and not dealt with explicitly (Forde, p.15) but all do nevertheless try to create a positive ethos . In this chapter, it is shown that although policies did not have a focus on gender, when children participated in gender played role (Forde, p.17) stereotypical views would arise. Girls thought that boys got more attention and both boys and girls agreed that girls were better learners (Forde, p.17) this emphasizes and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This adds a new branch to the human species family tree. Modern humans, who belong to a specie named Homo sapiens, continue to be until today the only living species in our genus. Along the gloomy and huge corridors, Fortunato reveals his Masonic membership with a grotesque gesture. • 20. The American War of Independence The American Revolutionary War, also known as the War of Independence, began on April 19th, 1775 with the Battle of Lexington and Concord. The American Revolution was a war between the thirteen colonies and Great Britian. The colonies wanted to gain independence from Great Britian. It was also a rebellion against the monarchy, which lead to the establishment of the republic [CROSS]. The outcome of the war was a victory for the thirteen colonies. The colonist gained independence and British recognition. The Battle of Lexington and Concord was a significant battle because it was the start of the Revolutionary War; there are many events that led to the colonist fighting back. The war started because Great Britain was taxing the colonies. Great Britain imposed the Sugar Act, Stamp Act, Townshend Acts, etc. It was taxation without representation. Many people wrote about what colonists should do. John Dickinson wrote The Letters From a Pennsyvlanvia Farmer and Thomas Paine wrote Common Sense . Both were the actions that they believed that colonist should take and their opinion on the matters. Americans rebelled with the Boston Massacre in 1770 and the Boston Tea Party in 1773 [CITE]. This caused Great Britain to enact the Coercive Acts. The Coercive Acts were divided into three parts: Boston Port Act, Administration of Justice Act, and the Massachusetts Government Act. Most people in the United States have limited opportunities to visit or see some of the amazing locations scattered across the country. One amazing location, that I have personally been able to visit, is the Porcupine Mountains. This park in particular is home to many interesting geological formations and sites that were formed long ago. In 2015, a USA Today reader poll ranked the Porcupine Mountains second on a list of Top 10 U.S. state parks (USA Today, 2015). So what is the big deal? Why are people so fond of this state park? The Porcupine Mountains are known for having vast distributions of outcrops of various rock types. The bedrock is exposed mostly because of thin or absent glacial drift as well as extensive mining operations that are scattered along the Lake Superior shore. Much of the bedrock in the park is older than 2.5 billion years and consists of Precambrian to Upper Silurian age rocks. The bedrock is of the Keweenaw Supergroup and is about 25 kilometers deep; much of which spans the along the mid continental rift. Figure 3. Keweenawan Supergroup strata by age and deposit. The large rift is a result of an immense geological event that produced large earthquakes and volcanic activity nearly 1 billion years ago. The event is a prime example of plate tectonic theory. Large plates along the mountains continually would shift allowing stratovolcano activity to persist. The volcanic activity left the Porcupine Volcanics, the oldest rocks of the area, which consists of andesite and rhyolite flows. Figure 4 is intended to explain the formation of some of the volcanic rock in the area. The area has remains of vast igneous rocks called basalt. The flood basalts make up much of the Lake Shore Traps, which are small outcroppings until they from a large stair step pattern (St. John). Orca Chief By Roy Henry Vickers And Robert Budd Essay I have chosen to select the book Orca Chief by Roy Henry Vickers and Robert Budd as an Aboriginal education resource for teaching in a Grade 4 classroom. I located this narrative text in the First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC) Authentic First Peoples Resources Guide. I choose this book because of familiarity with one of the authors, Roy Vickers. I have long admired this artists work. I have had the opportunity to visit his gallery in Tofino, B.C. and learn about the authors art and life. His use of vibrant colors was considered out of the box when I grew up. He pushed the boundaries and grabbed people s attention and for that I admired him. I can easily identify his paintings which the non artist in me enjoys. He has struggled through hardship and addiction and continues to be valuable member to his community and our country. Despite receiving numerous accolades, for his work, he appears to remain humble and continues on his mission to share and tell stories. Roy Henry Vickers, has a First Nation heritage of Tsimshian, Haida and Heiltsuk giving authenticity to this story and imagery. This forty page, hardcover text includes short paragraphs on the left page and vibrant illustrations of coastal life by Roy Vickers on the right pages, except for a large picture covering pages 25 and 26. Virtue Ethics Deontology And Teleological Ethics There are many ways to go about a situation at hand and the way you go through these instances is all about your ethics and how you go about life. Three important ethical approaches that are all very relatable to the lives we live today are virtue ethics, deontology and teleology. Virtue Ethics are the ethics that highlight a person s character and traits and ignore rules about the certain situation themselves and the consequences that could take affect after the situation is finished. Deontology or deontology ethics take place when one s ethical position on a situation is based on the rules at hand. This ethical approach can also be named rule based ethics because you are following the rules and not acting upon your own characteristics or beliefs. Physiological Effects Of Obesity Research concentrated on both the physiological causes and the consequences of prolonged adiposity has recently expanded as a result of the rising prevalence of obesity and related diseases. New studies show that understanding the mechanisms of specific immune cells in adipose tissue, the tissue responsible for storing excess fat, may be the key to understanding and treating the modern obesity epidemic. Group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) and their secreted type 2 cytokines have been strongly linked to the metabolic regulation of adipose tissue and promotion of thermogenesis, however the specific mechanisms of this pathway are unknown. Adipose tissue is the specialized connective tissue which stores energy as fat, as well as being responsible for generating heat within the body (9). The two types of adipose tissue, white adipose tissue (WAT) and brown adipose tissue (BAT), have distinct roles in fat storage and obesity. BAT is a major source of thermogenesis, and its development has been implicated in suppressing diet induced obesity (9). The brown adipocytes which make up BAT contain many mitochondria and express high levels of uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1), a protein which generates heat through uncoupling of the respiratory chain and substrate oxidation (11). WAT performs the anabolic role of storing energy, and has been linked to diseases such as type 2 diabetes in states of prolonged obesity (1,9). More recently however, an additional subcategory of adipocytes has been discovered, known as beige or brite (brown in white) adipocytes. These cells are similar to brown adipocytes as they express high levels of UCP1 and stimulate thermogenesis, however their presence in WAT can induce lipolysis of WAT stored fat (7,17). This WAT browning pathway is an area of active research, as the energy expenditure presents a potential strategy for treating obesity. The Prohibition Of Performance Enhancing Drugs Continue the Prohibition of Performance Enhancing Drugs Sporting competitions either nationally or internationally have regulations to prohibit or inhibit the use of performance enhancing drugs (PED s). There been a case for the lifting of these regulations to create sporting fair across all types of people. Craig Fry, an advocate for the use of performance enhancing drugs in elite sporting competitions and author of Bring Truth into Play by Saying Yes to Drugs in Sport , is an Australian health social sciences researcher with training in psychology, public health, and applied ethics. Fry testifies that the positives that would result in supervised PED use in elite competitions would create a more fair and balanced playing field. However Craig Fry s claim is invalid, not only are there a multitude of health risks continually being discovered, the use of performance enhancing drugs would diminish the spirit of sporting and create international legal catastrophes with differentiation in the creation of new drug substances. One reason performance enhancing drugs are prohibited is because of the health risks that are a potential outcome of injections that are not medically supervised. Craig Fry asserts the idea of the existence of enabling techniques that provide a safe form of injection for those wishing to use PED s, implying that these safer alternative forms would inherently prevent any potential health risks. This was known as the First Persian Gulf War, which started with the land and air invasion of Iran by Iraq on September 22, 1980. The authoritarian president of the Republic of Iraq during this time period was Saddam Hussein, who was best known for his extreme violation of human rights. Ruhollah Khomeini led the Islamic Republic of Iran after the conclusion of the 1979 Iranian Revolution, which ended the reign of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Both of these regimes exhibited tight control of their citizens and restricted many of their rights. These restrictions are highlighted in two novels that explore the lives of citizens living in them during this time period. I jaam: An Iraqi Rhapsody by Sinan Antoon is a manuscript that was written in the confines of a jail cell in Iraq during this time period by a young man named Furat. Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood by Marjane Satrapi is an autobiographical novel that depicts the life of the people in Iran during and after the Iranian Revolution. Both of these people had to deal with the authoritarian rule and conflict between these two nations, however, there are many ways in which these citizens resisted this control, which is also explored in these novels. Develops commercial method to polarize light It had been known since the eighteenth century that certain kinds of crystals (clear colorless glasses of superior quality) could affect the direction of light waves. In his effort to develop a method for polarizing light, Land was searching for a crystal that could not only reduce glare but was stable and economical enough to be produced commercially. He conceived the idea of two plates that would absorb the light waves that were not wanted and transmit those that were. He then succeeded in aligning millions of microscopic iodine crystals in one direction, thus creating the first polarizer. Land presented a paper on his discovery at a physics colloquium (meeting) at Harvard in February 1932. In June, he left the university, one semester short of a degree, and never returned. Nowadays, the number of moving people exceeds 200 million (World Migration Report 2010 The Future of Migration: Building Capacities for Change. International Organization for Migration. 2010). In the ancient times the number of moving people was little, but the causes were approximately the same. Especially, migration of ancient Turks had a significant role in formulation of world civilizations. Their migration periods cover several thousand years. The most famous migration stage of Turks was in the II VII centuries, well known as Migration Period. Turkic tribes migrated and spread their habitation because of three main factors. The first and the most significant cause of Turkic migration is related to economic issues. Many Turkic tribes migrated because of crisis and famine in their country. The famine derived from climate changes and severe climate in different periods. Living in difficult life circumstances, Turkic tribes decided to move in order to find fruitful lands. Especially, during the Migration Period, in 395, Huns (Turks) moved to Europe because of famine. Moreover, some Turkic groups migrated to wide steppes in order to find and extend their pastures.
