“If you want to use the
API in your plugin or
theme you can start doing
that by replacing admin-
ajax.php stuff, for
example. If you’re
developing a mobile app or
something that uses
WordPress data externally
you’ll still need to rely
on the plugin for help.”

Editor's Notes

  • #3 If the WP 4.4 does not ship today, it will be released this month.
  • #5 Within the code, there are ways to customize how these embedded poste will look. Expect new and upadted themes and plugins to offer easy access to these customizations in the near future.
  • #6 Integrating WP with web and mobile apps is easier for developers, and will become easier for users after the second step is completed.
  • #7 Devices with small screens will load the small version of an image while devices with larger screens will grab the bigger images. This replaces the current method of loading the same size image for all screen sizes and scaling it to fit the screen. In my opinion, this is one of the most important features.
  • #8 These query changes will speed the page load times. However, they may be some interesting ways to find what people are talking about in comments. I am still looking for more informaiton about this feature as the new version rolls out.
  • #9 The default themes that ship with new versions of WP highlight development best practices and highlight new features of the version update. It is also a very commonly used theme which should be used when troubleshooting your site or plugin.
  • #11 Check out the deals at http://lowendbox.com/
  • #12 The WordPress Five Minute Install offers a great set of instructions which everyone should learn. This is useful when you restore a backup or setup a test site. I highly recommend that everyone learn the five minute install method and test their backups regularly using this installation method.
  • #13 Ideally, you should have a test site running at all times. If you set this up, you can use the Beta Tester plugin to regularly and easily test new versions of WP.
