Woodpeckers live in forests around the world except Australia, with some species also inhabiting rocky hills and deserts. There are over 200 species of woodpecker that are categorized into families like piculets, wrynecks, sapsuckers, and picadaes, with some species endangered. Woodpeckers have strong, sharp beaks for tapping trees to find insects hidden inside or to make nests, and their tongues are sticky to catch the insects. They eat insects, fruits, and nuts, and males and females incubate a maximum of four eggs for about two weeks.
