Leadership from the Ground Up | DevCon General Assembly Jun 2017Haifa Carina
In 2017, I passed the baton of leading DEVCON Philippines, a volunteer organization for developers by developers. When I left, I'm very proud that DEVCON has seeded a number of leaders who has grown not just in terms of community service but also in their careers. In one the volunteer assemblies, the officers invited me to give a talk on leadership. John C. Maxwell has been my guidance for leadership ever since I was in high school and I thought I'd share the same guidance with them.
Culture Summit 2018 - Using Culture to Unlock Your People's Potential WorkshopCulture Summit
This document discusses building a high-performing organizational culture. It begins by defining culture as a set of shared beliefs, values, experiences and ways of being. It then discusses the concept of fixed versus growth mindsets and how a growth mindset leads to higher achievement. Several frameworks are introduced, including the zone of genius/competence and Maslow's hierarchy of needs. The document advocates creating a compelling vision for an ideal culture and implementing rituals and practices like self-reflection, onboarding processes, and team retreats to bring the vision to life. The goal is to transform people into their best selves through a culture of fierce loyalty and high performance.
This document discusses strategies for managing creativity in organizations. It argues that creativity is not limited to a select few individuals, but can be fostered in groups through diversity of perspectives, open-mindedness, and an environment that encourages risk-taking and new ideas. Certain leadership styles, tools, and constraints can help spur creativity. While original ideas may seem to come in a flash, the document asserts that creativity is actually a process that benefits from exploration, iteration, and sharing ideas with others. The overall message is that creativity can and should be nurtured in everyone through the right organizational culture and management practices.
1. The document discusses John C. Maxwell's book "21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership".
2. It provides a brief biography of Maxwell and overview of the book, noting that it contains real-life examples and principles that can be applied to any work environment.
3. The book explores 21 laws of leadership, including the Law of the Lid which says a leader's effectiveness is limited by their ability, and the Law of Process which states leadership develops through consistent small improvements over time.
This document provides guidance on creating a culture of success in an organization. It discusses that creating culture is difficult due to a lack of trust, fear of conflict, lack of commitment, avoidance of accountability, and inattention to results. It recommends leading with a clear purpose that attracts motivated people, being a leader with emotional intelligence, creating change through establishing urgency and empowering others, and ensuring messages are positive and celebrate successes rather than complain. The overall message is that strong, purpose-driven leadership and a focus on people are keys to developing a successful organizational culture.
The document outlines the key concepts from Jim Collins' "Good to Great" framework for taking a company from good to great. It discusses having Level 5 leadership, getting the right people on the bus, confronting brutal facts, having a clear Hedgehog concept, building a culture of discipline, creating momentum like a flywheel, preserving the core values while stimulating progress, and building the organization to last beyond any single leader. The framework provides a systematic approach for companies to transform performance through disciplined people and thought.
5 Ways to Achieve Self-Empowerment for WomenINSEAD

It discusses that great companies have Level 5 Leaders who are modest and driven. They also focus first on getting the right people on the team before deciding on strategies. Finally, great companies create a culture of discipline and use technology to accelerate existing momentum, not create it.
The global workforce is undergoing a huge shift. The net generation, Gen Y, is growing up quickly and account for almost half the workforce already. According to an HBR article, in four years Millennials – the people born between 1977 and 1997 – will account for nearly half the employees in the world. In some companies, they already do!
Organizations that engage Millennials will get ahead. The net generation wants to learn and grow and they're not afraid to ask for it. Now that we know that something has to change, ask yourself: what are you going to do for them?
4 ways to keep Millennials engaged:
1. Get rid of the performance review.
2. Be a coach.
3. Give recognition.
4. Share ongoing feedback.

Designing and Sustaining Large-Scale Value-Centered Agile Ecosystems (powered...Alexey Krivitsky
Is Agile dead? It depends on what you mean by 'Agile'. If you mean that the organizations are not getting the promised benefits because they were focusing too much on the team-level agile "ways of working" instead of systemic global improvements -- then we are in agreement. It is a misunderstanding of Agility that led us down a dead-end. At Org Topologies, we see bright sparks -- the signs of the 'second wave of Agile' as we call it. The emphasis is shifting towards both in-team and inter-team collaboration. Away from false dichotomies. Both: team autonomy and shared broad product ownership are required to sustain true result-oriented organizational agility. Org Topologies is a package offering a visual language plus thinking tools required to communicate org development direction and can be used to help design and then sustain org change aiming at higher organizational archetypes.

Healthy economic development requires properly managing the banking industry of any
country. Along with state-owned banks, private banks play a critical role in the country's economy.
Managers in all types of banks now confront the same challenge: how to get the utmost output from
their employees. Therefore, Performance appraisal appears to be inevitable since it set the
standard for comparing actual performance to established objectives and recommending practical
solutions that help the organization achieve sustainable growth. Therefore, the purpose of this
research is to determine the effect of performance appraisal on employee motivation and retention.
From Concept to reality : Implementing Lean Managements DMAIC Methodology for...Rokibul Hasan
The Ready-Made Garments (RMG) industry in Bangladesh is a cornerstone of the economy, but increasing costs and stagnant productivity pose significant challenges to profitability. This study explores the implementation of Lean Management in the Sampling Section of RMG factories to enhance productivity. Drawing from a comprehensive literature review, theoretical framework, and action research methodology, the study identifies key areas for improvement and proposes solutions.
Through the DMAIC approach (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control), the research identifies low productivity as the primary problem in the Sampling Section, with a PPH (Productivity per head) of only 4.0. Using Lean Management techniques such as 5S, Standardized work, PDCA/Kaizen, KANBAN, and Quick Changeover, the study addresses issues such as pre and post Quick Changeover (QCO) time, improper line balancing, and sudden plan changes.
The research employs regression analysis to test hypotheses, revealing a significant correlation between reducing QCO time and increasing productivity. With a regression equation of Y = -0.000501X + 6.72 and an R-squared value of 0.98, the study demonstrates a strong relationship between the independent variables (QCO downtime and improper line balancing downtime) and the dependent variable (productivity per head).
The findings suggest that by implementing Lean Management practices and addressing key productivity inhibitors, RMG factories can achieve substantial improvements in efficiency and profitability. The study provides valuable insights for practitioners, policymakers, and researchers seeking to enhance productivity in the RMG industry and similar manufacturing sectors.
