Virtual Talk with Author & Pastor Bruce Reyes-Chow on Everyday Kindness on 03/22/2022.
Meet the author of In Defense of Kindness, Pastor Bruce Reyes-Chow!
These days we view kindness as an inert act based on the absence of being a jerk, or we see it as heroic and herculean, beyond the reach and capability of mere mortals. But what if kindness was a practice we could each choose, every day, as a way to experience community and wholeness in new, life-giving, world-changing ways?
Reyes-Chow shows how being kind (which is different than being nice) has the power to transform our relationships in all arenas of our life – from the internet to the public square, from those closest to us to those we find it hardest to be kind to, from justice work on the streets to meetings in the boardroom, and from the line at the coffee shop to the line for school drop-off.
Defense of Kindness will jumpstart your heart and inspire you to practice kindness as a daily discipline, grounded in the idea that each person is created and complex and worthy of dignity and respect. Join the kindness movement and help heal the world!
This author talk is inspired by this year’s Silicon Valley Reads’ themes of Kindness, Resilience, and Hope.

Jewish Women And Identity In 19 C French Orientalist PaintingsPaige Dansinger
Jewish women’s identity in 19th C. French Orientalist paintings contributed to shaping how Jewish female identity has changed from the period of the Post-Enlightenment to Modernist times. An examination of the evolution of how the painter’s model was portrayed archetypically in North Africa, from sacred Moroccan bride to Harem odalisque and finally to the Femme Fatal figure reveals symptoms of this transformation. By surveying the art of French Orientalists and the texts of 19th and 20th-century scholars, historians, literature and artist writers, we may better understand how Jewish women’s identity has been influenced by such things as; Anti-Semitism, Post-Colonial theories exploring the “Other,” such as Said’s Orientalism, Ashkenazi and Mizrahi relations and Jewish/Arab feminist dynamics. This research is important because it may lead to a broader comprehension of contemporary Jewish identity for women. Hopefully this understanding may ultimately help to confront and diminish stereo-types, Anti-Semitism, social and political injustices as well as personal identity issues that Jewish women have commonly faced.

Courageous Conversations about Diversity and Multicultural InclusionJulie Connor, Ed.D.
This presentation invites us into courageous conversations about diversity and multicultural inclusion. We must be willing to discuss our unique similarities and differences if we want to authentically engage in collaborative relationships in schools, churches, and businesses.
Recent times have seen an explosion of interest in history. Ashton and Hamilton (2007, p. 21) argue that “most people regard film and television, whether fiction or documentary, as a major source of [their] historical knowledge”, and Rosenstone (2006) concurs, asserting that “visual media is the chief conveyer of public history in our culture” (p. 12). For Lorenz (1994) “television and film have replaced the book as the most important media of information” (p. 27). It is in this context that the family history television program Who Do You Think You Are? – initially airing in 2004 and now in its ninth season – had by 2007 become the second most popular non-fiction programme ever shown on British television, its emotional and psychological resonances far exceeding producer expectations (Cannell, 2011). Using a celebrity avatar to ‘stand in’ for the audience, the programme cleverly contextualises family histories within broader social history narratives (De Groot, 2009; Kramer, 2011), supporting through an act of public pedagogy, the avatar and audience to “make sense of their own lives and their connection to the lives of others” (van Dijck, 2004, p. 262). Situated within a growing educational interest in public history and historical consciousness (Seixas, 2004; Straub, 2005), this paper examines what educators can learn from the process of reception involved in the celebrity’s pedagogical encounter with rival, challenging, or unexpected histories.
Are all religions the same? Do they all lead to the same destination? Are the religions of the world superficially different and fundamentally identical OR is it vice versa. Go thru this presentation to understand the uniqueness and supremacy of Jesus. You will know what makes Jesus so special. He is the King and He reigns! Hope you don't have a rival throne in your hearts.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

• Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of
God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living
sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this
is your spiritual act of worship. Do not
conform any longer to the pattern of this

of your mind. Then you will be able to test
and approve what God's will is—his good,
pleasing and perfect will.” (Rom. 12:1-2)
