This document outlines a research project on human rights violations against women in India related to honor killing. The research question asks how the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is being violated through honor killing in India, and what international courts are doing in response. The project plan includes researching definitions of key terms like UDHR and violence against women, collecting statistics on violence against women in India, exploring the reasons behind and incidents of honor killing, and examining actions taken by the Supreme Court and international courts. The document provides an index of topics to be covered and notes the use of internet research and interviews as data collection methods.

Human rights are the basic rights and freedoms that belong to every person in the world. Moreover, human rights are both inspirational and practical. Human rights principles hold up the vision of a free. Human rights also empower people with a framework for action when those minimum standards are not met, for people still have human rights even if the laws or those in power do not recognize or protect them. Because of this UDHR (Universal Declaration of Human Rights) was to set a standard of rights for all people everywhere. Women is also receiving there fictitious rights. All people have the same rights and all rights are equally important. The UDHR clearly says that girls and women and boys and men have the same rights.

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. It has been rightly proclaimed in the American declaration of independence that “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Created with certain unalienable rights….” Similarly, Indian Constitution has ensured and enshrined Fundamental rights for all citizens irrespective of caste, creed, religion, color, sex or nationality. These basic rights, commonly known as human rights, are recognized the world over as basic rights with which every individual is born.
The issues that surround female dressing are mere symptoms of the root problem of “The Objectification of the Female Gender.” The problem is simple. The female body (as a whole and in parts) is looked upon as sexual objects to be exploited for everything. In the minds of certain perverted persons and entities, the female as a person does not exist, only pleasurable bodies.5 That is the reason for the abnormal emphasis on baring naked flesh similar to the display of flesh dangling from hooks of a butcher’s shop.

HUMAN RIGHTS QUARTERLY
Women's Rights as Human Rights:
Toward a Re-Vision of Human Rights
Charlotte Bunch"'
Significant numbers of the world's population are routinely subject to torture,
starvation, terrorism, humiliation, mutilation, and even murder simply be-
cause they are female. Crimes such as these against any group other than
women would be recognized as a civil and political emergency as well as
a gross violation of the victims' humanity. Yet, despite a clear record of
deaths and demonstrable abuse, women's rights are not commonly classified
as human rights. This is problematic both theoretically and practically, be-
cause it has grave consequences for the way society views and treats the
fundamental issues of women's lives. This paper questions why women's
rights and human rights are viewed as distinct, looks at the policy implications
of this schism, and discusses different approaches to changing it.
Women's human rights are violated in a variety of ways. Of course,
women sometimes suffer abuses such as political repression that are similar
to abuses suffered by men. ln these situations, female victims are often
invisible, because the dominant image of the political actor in our world is
male. However, many violations of women's human rights are distinctly
connected to being female-that is, women are discriminated against and
abused on the basis of gender. Women also experience sexual abuse in
situations where their other human rights are being violated, as political
prisoners or members of persecuted ethnic groups, for example. In this paper
l address those abuses in which gende.
The presentation deals with women rights and human rights violations comprising human rights in India, significance, UDHR and its role, various forms of violation against women, honour killing etc.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

5. WHATIS UDHRANDWHAT ISITSROLE?
• The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is a
declaration adopted by the United Nations General
Assembly on 10 December 1948 at the Palais de
Chaillot, Paris.
• The UDHR draws life-preserving messages from the
past, and is seen as an essential foundation for
building a world in which all human beings can, in the
centuries to come, look forward to living in dignity
and peace.
• The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is the

7. WHAT IS VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN ?
• Any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to
result in, physical, sexual or mental harm or suffering to women,
including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of
liberty , whether occurring in private or public life.
=> As defined by the United Nations.
• Around the world at least one woman in every three has been
beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime. Every
year, violence in the home and the community devastates the lives
of millions of women. Violence against women is rooted in a global
culture of discrimination which denies women equal rights with
men and which legitimizes the appropriation of women's bodies for
individual gratification or political ends.
8. SIGNIFICANCE OF VIOLENCE
AGAINST WOMEN
•Unequal status of women in society.
•Serious violations of human rights.
•Leads to range of health problems ( often in
silence)
•Pressure on medical care resources.
•Health care institutions can make significant
contributions to addressing violence against
women by supporting clinicians and clients.
9. VARIOUS FORMS OF VIOLENCE
AGAINST WOMEN
•Rape/Sexual violence in refugee camps.
•forced sexual initiation or abuse.
•Sex-selective abortion.
•Acid throwing/honour killing ( dowry related
deaths)
•Undue virginity examination.
•forced caesarean section deliveries.
•Trafficking in women and girls
11. HONOUR KILLING: WHAT IS IT?
• An honour killing or shame killing is the homicide of a member
of a family by other members, due to the perpetrators' belief
that the victim has brought shame or dishonour upon the
family, or has violated the principles of a community or a
religion, usually for reasons such as refusing to enter
an arranged marriage, being in a relationship that is
disapproved by their family, having sex outside marriage,
becoming the victim of rape, dressing in ways which are
deemed inappropriate, engaging in non-heterosexual relations
or renouncing a faith.
15. WHAT IS THE SUPREME COURT OR THE INTERNATIONAL
COURT DOING ABOUT HONOR KILLING?
• NEW DELHI: Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh have joined
18 other states to empower the Centre to bring a
legislation against honor killings, in what could be a
turnaround moment for the effort to curb the powers of
caste, religion and creed.
• The Supreme Court suggested its amicus curiae(allotted
lawyer on behalf of government) to devise a strict legal
regime to contain honour killings, wherein the focus
should be on enforcing orders against khap panchayats
rather than on securing the arrest of its members that
often leads to law and order problems.
• "In our opinion honour killings, for whatever reason,
come within the category of rarest of rare cases deserving
death punishment. It is time to stamp out these barbaric,
