WINTER WEATHER HAZARDS
• Blizzards
A blizzard is not just another name for a snow
fall. A blizzard is a natural hazard that can have
many harmful effects on the environment and
those who make up that environment. A few
characteristics of a blizzard include, high winds,
very low temperatures, and little to no visibility
because of all the falling or blowing snow. All of
these characteristics are what make up the
negative effects of a blizzard.

WINTER WEATHER HAZARDS
• Ice Fog
Dense fog has a serious impact on
transportation when the visibility is
significantly reduced. Highways, airports and
ports are closed for safety. Fog can cause
considerable economic losses.

WINTER WEATHER HAZARDS
• Freezing Rain and Ice Pellets
Driving, and even walking can be dangerous in
such conditions. As well, ice coated utility
lines or poles can be brought down due to the
excess weight of the ice.
