Pre-Summit Workshop 8 March2016
ABOUT THE EVENT
Western Australia has one of the highest employment rates of women, making up 68% of the public sector workforce in 2010 and 44% overall.
However, despite these statistics women are significantly under-represented in senior leadership roles. In recent years, there has been progress in the
recognition of female candidates for executive positions; however, there is room for improvement.
The 3rd Annual Women in Leadership Western Australia Summit 2016 explores these complex and varied obstacles faced by women in the
workforce and delivers practical strategies and solutions relevant to both current and emerging female leaders. It provides practical guidance on how
to optimise leadership effectiveness in order to stimulate career growth and satisfaction.
Coveted advice and inspirational stories from accomplished women will provide delegates with a range of strategies and tools to overcome common
career challenges. Speakers will also share experiences on how to improve leadership effectiveness whilst creating a balanced personal and
professional life. Register early to secure your place and be part of this progressive and inspiring learning and networking opportunity.

you. If you are able to establish and respect your priorities,

and learn to navigate a diverse, new path. Nicole will reflect
on her own experience and discuss how to embrace being
thrust into unfamiliar territory, focusing on:
• Embracing a career change
• Taking risks and being brave enough to succeed

One of the most significant challenges of being a successful
leader is balancing work and life. This is because there is no
single formula for establishing this balance, and it is always
subject to change. As a result, strategies must be put in

competing priorities and continuing to take steps towards
leadership and career goals. This panel will explore:
• Taking measurable steps to recognise your unique goals
and priorities
• Strategies for productivity at work and at home

Strategies and Techniques for Developing Resilience and Emotional Intelligence in Leadership Roles
Taking on a leadership role is a great responsibility, especially when considering the tight deadlines, office politics and constantly high expectations.
These expectations, both internal and external, further increase the stress of a highly demanding role, and necessitate the implementation of
resilience and emotional intelligence. Without harnessing strategies and techniques to keep their emotions in check and maintain a cool and
balanced approach to work, leaders are less efficient and team productivity decreases.
Developing resilience and improving emotional intelligence will enable a leader to work well under pressure, respond proactively to stress triggers,
and bounce back when things don’t go to plan. This interactive workshop is aimed at women in leadership roles and those aspiring to improve their
leadership skill set. Participants will develop a greater understanding of how to lead more effectively and react more efficiently to those undesirable
circumstances that will occur intermittently throughout every career. Explore:
Techniques to remain self-aware in a demanding environment:
• Recognising your emotional strengths and weaknesses
• Strategies to improve productivity under pressure
• Harnessing a positive approach to deadline driven work
Understanding stress and minimising its effect on team productivity:
• Improving the ability to recognise triggers for stress
• Developing a stress relief action plan
• Leading a team in stressful and demanding circumstances
Strategies to improve emotional intelligence and (in turn) enhance efficiency:
• Defining emotional intelligence in the workplace
• Developing key strategies to maintain wellbeing and mental health
• Strengthening emotional intelligence to build resilience
Building, improving and maintaining resilience:
• Key tactics for coping and bouncing back from undesirable career set-backs
• Establishing a strong set of key self-management techniques
• Embracing new and unexpected circumstances
Expert Facilitator: Judy McGinn Director
Achieve Real Change
Judy is a leadership coach, counsellor, trainer and education consultant with over 30 years’ experience in the human services and personal
development industry.
Judy runs her own business, Achieve Real Change, as well as working as a Leadership Coach at both Coach in a Box and Leadership WA. She enjoys
the diversity of working with individuals in corporate, government, non-government and community sectors at middle, senior management and executive
levels. Organizations include Mars, Mondelez, Toll, Energy Australia, Medibank Private, BankWest, and State Edn Depts (WA, Vic, NSW SA).
In June 2013 Judy received her accreditation as an Empowerment Life Coach in the US to further develop her skills in transformative growth
methodology. Her area of expertise lies in inspiring a person, or a group of people to take the risk to go for their deepest dream, to confront and
transform the limiting beliefs that may surface, and cultivate the courage to bring their vision to fruition.
Prior to relocating to Perth Judy was based in the Kimberley region of Western Australia for 16 years where she held positions in management,
consultancy, counselling and education. This enabled her to develop an intricate knowledge of cultural awareness and practical applications to both
people growth and strategic project development, as well as leading innovative solutions to community social issues. In 2009 her leadership enabled
the development and implementation of a model designed to assist with the “closing the gap” agenda for Indigenous Australians which won the
prestigious Ben Drayton Award for Initiatives in Aboriginal Education, WA.
Judy uses her key understandings in personal development, psychology and the basic human need for connectedness, as a catalyst for behavioural
change. Her vision for others is based on the belief that too often when taking that next step we focus on what needs to get done, without looking at
who we need to become, in order to really make it.
