Ripple Effect: Faculty Redesign Through Course RedesignKenneth Ronkowitz
The Writing Initiative at Passaic County Community College has a primary goal of improving writing by redesigning more than 20 GenEd courses across disciplines as writing-intensive. An embedded component of the project is the use of technology by the faculty and students participating in the WI courses. A secondary goal is to expand the number of other instructors integrating technology into their courses – to start a ripple effect in the college community.
Presentation given at VIII Semana de Formação de Professores STHEM Brasil – Módulo 1, a virtual workshop run on 25 May 2021 by faculty from the Institute of Educational Technology at The Open University, UK.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

1. Wikiscuola Case study Giantommaso D’Astolto NEST project Alta ScuolaPolitecnica VII cycle
2. What is it? Collaborative wiki used by an Italian middle school in northern Italy The goal is to share experiences, ideas and knowledge and to interactively create teaching material
3. Homepage The homepage contains a simple explanation of how to use the tool On the left side we can see the structure of the website and on the top of the page we have a tab that shows the functionalities we can use At the bottom there is a list of comments left by registered members
4. How does it work? Students and teachers can work together to create shared content for future lectures The content is firstly organised by classes and then by subjects All the members can edit pages and upload video and documents, professors have also the role of moderator and support team for their pupils
5. IT tools Document uploader for material transfering Wikis for interactive collaboration Chat and forums for comment sharing
6. Strengths/1 The material is well organised, and the explanation on how to use the tool is comprehensible The overall impression for a web surfer is very catchy, thanks also to an appealing layout
7. Strengths/2 The idea of creating the content of future lectures with students is extremely innovative. Moreover a student that is involved in the preparation of the lesson should feel more stimulated to active participate to it Example of feedback that shows studentparticipation
8. Weaknesses Some users complains for browser incompatibility There are no tools for simultaneous interaction (such as video-audio conferences) Example of feedback about browser problems
9. Business model The service was conceived by the Italian school, which firstly used it for a single class (pilot experiment) It was developed thanks to the support of an organisation of experts (Centro Metid, Politecnico di Milano) Now the service has been expanded to the whole school and people need to sign up to become members
10. Conclusions and take-aways The idea seems to have had a great success, in terms of participation and commitment Since the tool has been developed for a single school, there is no need for scaling it down, it just takes some adjustment with respect to the institution that wants to use it The tool can be useful as a part of a bigger project that involves the use of other kinds of resources (such as videoconfences)
