GlogsterVisual images are becoming the predominant form of communication in the 21stCentury.The possibilities of using this tool in your teaching are endless. It lets you create Chapter Summaries, Hotlists of sites for Reading/Math, Poetry Glogs, Pond Animals, Art History…It lets the students have a fun learning experience and promotes creativity.
I used Glogster to create a poster to feature a weekly artistin my classroom.
Success EncounteredGaining exposure to multiple online tools that can be used in the classroom.Learning how to tie different applications into a single platform such as Edmodo.Enables me to bring much more creativity into the presentation of materials to the class.Despite limited technical skills, it was nice to find so many tools can be easily implemented.
Challenges EncounteredWith the vast amount of resources available, it is challenging to identify the most appropriate tool without getting bogged down looking at sites that are not beneficial.Limited technical skills made some aspects more challenging, however the time spent led to improved capabilities.
ProsThere are numerous advantages of learning through Moodle, the first being ease of use.It allows you the ability to construct collaborative course communities, such as Wiki, quizzes, assignments & forums. It gives you the ability to easily add, change or organize information.ConsYou can download Moodle for free but unless it’s supported by a school district, fees will quickly add up.It does take an IT department or someone very technologicalysavvy to implement & run.
Online LearningProsOnline learning has the ability to provide learning experiences more tailored to an individual student. It has the ability to connect learners through social networking platforms. Meaningful learning takes place within a community.Online learning is convenient and flexible.ConsThe time constraint on many teachers to learn new teaching methods and adapt to technological advancements.Since it is a new approach to teaching it would be hard to show it’s effectiveness without some form of assessment.
