Wikis are websites that allow users to collaboratively create and edit page content using a web browser. Wikis support hyperlinks and have a simple text syntax. Wikis were introduced in 1995 and have been used for over 10 years. Some key features of wikis include that content is instantly published, links can be easily created, and only a web browser is needed to use one. Wikis were integrated into the learning management system Blackboard to allow collaborative document editing and enable students to publicly display information. A case study showed how a wiki was customized for an institution and made available within Blackboard courses.
