Breaking the glass ceiling, tackling unconscious
bias and effective role-modelling
The road to leadership is always filled with challenges, but for
women in ICT there can be many additional obstacles and
hurdles to overcome, from unconscious bias to a dire want

for much more than technical knowledge, it demands drive
and courage, and an understanding of the endemic cultural
challenges faced. This interactive session invites a panel of IT
leaders to explore the nature of unconscious bias in ICT, the
value of effective role-modelling and diversity in leadership,
and key approaches and strategies to overcome common
challenges.

Fact and fiction at the executive table - What it really
takes to step up as a senior leader
The commonly used tools to get ahead in the leadership stakes
for women are typically the ones we learnt at school – work
hard, go the extra mile, please the teacher, be a team player.
These strategies work well up to a certain career point but can
paradoxically hold women back from playing bigger or being
recognised for their contribution. This expert session will focus
on how to address this dilemma and work on your inner game,
with practical tools and ideas you can take back to the office

ICT leadership offers up exciting new possibilities for

constantly evolving market. And yet, in the specialised
IT space the balance between leadership soft skills and

About The Event
ICT leadership sits at a critical nexus point between leading successful teams,
driving change and innovation, and building strategical approaches. Despite
an increased representation in recent years the gender gap in executive
technology roles remains remarkably wide making it crucial that females in ICT
roles establish networks of support with like-minded individuals. Moving from
a technical to a leadership position is just one of the countless obstacles that
women in ICT face in their positions.
Effective leadership in an ICT role requires not only a technical background
and knowledge but also a diverse skill set encompassing strong
communication abilities, resilience, and an authentic voice. Striving to be an
authentic leader will help to build rewarding relationships and harness your
strengths as an individual and leader.
The 3rd Annual Women in ICT Leadership Summit 2016 will address the
complex and various roles that women leaders in ICT take on. The conference
will feature senior females that are at the top of their game sharing their own
personal and motivational leadership journey while providing practical learning
strategies for aspiring leaders to develop their own authentic voice to achieve
success.
Juggling your work-life balance has been always been a
challenge, but the advent of new technology has made it an
even more challenging ordeal. The importance of creating
an effective balance requires prioritising responsibilities to
enhance productivity at work and home and lower stress
levels. As an experienced career coach, Caroline will discuss
techniques and strategies for creating a desired balance
between work and personal life.
Topics she will cover include:
• Prioritising responsibilities for effective time management
• Learning healthy coping techniques for stresses
• Creating and maintaining boundaries
