• In 1358: serfs revolted against the lords (in the
countryside)
• Peasants burned manor houses
• Many lords were killed.

shortage, so lords increased wages
• BUT! They approved the poll tax = every
person in England (rich or poor) would be
taxed the same amount
• this enraged serfs

• 1381: Led by John Ball and Wat Tyler, peasants
marched on London
• They killed nobles (including the Archbishop
of Canterbury) & burned buildings
• Tyler was killed bu the Lord Mayor of London.
• Ball was taken prisoner, then beheaded
