The document summarizes a presentation about integrating user experience (UX) design with lean product development principles. Some key points discussed include:
- Traditional UX cycles do not align well with lean principles like rapid prototyping and just-in-time design.
- Forcing developers to do UX work and relying solely on surveys and analytics can undermine UX.
- UX designers need to measure results and adapt to the lean process instead of insisting their way is best.
- To integrate UX and lean, designers should focus on rapid design iterations, flexibility, and changing metrics over time-intensive upfront work and long reports.
Tour of Mobile usability testing apps and servicesvijayhanumolu
Ok, you have been asked to go off and research how to design/architect a mobile user experience. After the initial excitement and learning all about mobile UX, you decide to jump head-on and start designing.
Then comes the realization, how are you going to test the designs in context of a mobile device? Do you have to package everything in an app or is there a way to test preliminary designs? What tools are available? Which works for what Mobile OS? When to use a particular tool? Can, we, designers use it without developer help?
In this presentation I have various testing app/methods/tools/services available specifically for Mobile, for which OS, when to best use them during design process, cost associated with some of the tools, and what are pros & cons of each of them.
In this presentation, learn how to hack UX Zombies to pieces using two tools: models and fidelity. You’ll be introduced to how to control the fidelity of our models, to hack UX for the right design.
Maximizing the impact of UX in an agile environment: Mixing agile and Lean UXJohn Whalen
When companies adopt an agile development environment, UX teams often feel like they just lost their seat at the table. It’s never easy to change, but by adapting your UX practices to accommodate agile, you can have the impact on design you always wanted.
Prototyping is essential to designing memorable mobile user experiences, but can often be overlooked at the beginning of building a product. Learn the types of prototypes, tools, and best practices for mobile product design (including overview of mobile flow and UI best practices, patterns, and frameworks).
Software prototyping is an important UX design skill that many people “just do” but effective prototyping requires crucial knowledge and practices that aren’t obvious. As a result, many prototyping efforts aren’t productive and fail to achieve their goals.
In this talk, Everett will explain prototyping and its goals, compare prototyping to sketching, and explore the different types of prototyping. He will then give the eight rules for effective prototyping and show why those rules are so important.
Everett will review several commonly available prototyping tools (including SketchFlow), give nine criteria for evaluating prototyping tools, and evaluate the tools based on the criteria. He will conclude by showing some examples effective and ineffective prototyping in practice.
If you or your team is prototyping now or considering prototyping in the future, this talk is for you!

Real World Lessons Using Lean UX (Workshop)Bill Scott
Half Day Workshop given 5/22/2013 at WebVisions Portland.
In this workshop Bill will explore the mindset of LeanUX and how it relates to bring products to life in the midst of big organizations that don't normally think "Lean". He will look at how teams can create a strong partnership between product, design & engineering in a way that tears down the walls and instead focuses on three key principles:
Shared understanding
Deep collaboration
Continuous customer feedback
The workshop will take a look at how Bill has been able to apply Lean UX at PayPal — a place that in recent years has been the total antithesis of the lean startup idea. With very specific examples, he will share lessons learned applying lean to the full product life cycle as well as how it relates to agile development.
Finally, the workshop looks at the technology stack. In the last few years there has been an explosion of open source technology stacks that can support rapidly creating products, launching them to scale and rapidly iterating on them when live. While startups embrace these stacks from the get-go, large organizations struggle with how to embrace this change. This workshop will also look at the shift that has happened, what is driving this change, and how organizations can embrace this stack and how to marry Lean Tech with Lean UX.
This is the presentation I used for my talk on the World Usability Day, WUD2010 on 11-Nov-2010.
It was targeted for the IT professionals in the audience including Senior Management, Project Managers, Business Analysts, Designers, Developers, Testers etc.

The importance of introducing usability activities into free open source software development has been acknowledged in the research and by the community, yet FOSS products have been criticized for having little or no emphasis on usability. The decentralized and engineering-driven approach of open source projects can conflict with usability methodologies. We will review existing cases of UX design contribution to open source projects, discuss how designers can become part of the community and what engineers can do to improve usability of the software they build.

Lean UX is all the rage for 2015, as many teams are starting to adapt it. The goal is to make evidence-based design decisions to learn from our customers, and minimize waste in doing so. But one thing we need more evidence on: if using lean UX actually works! In practice, lean UX is often a rationalization for poorly designed MVPs that fail to deliver the promised benefits.
For the first half of this talk, Everett will present the fundamental concepts and techniques of lean UX, and make a case why they may not deliver their promised results. The second half will be a group discussion about your own experience with lean techniques, and whether or not you agree with Everett's concerns.

Integrating User Experience Design into the Product LifecycleICS
There is overwhelming evidence that investing in the user experience (UX) produces a superior product. When the needs of the customer are met, it becomes much easier to meet business goals. Many companies still do not put their focus on UX, instead relying on what organically comes out of the software development process. Often, it is not a lack of interest in UX, but rather a gap in skills and knowledge that prevents good UX design practices from being applied to product development.
Learn how to put “UX First” in the product lifecycle, allowing developers to focus on engineering tasks and build the correct product to meet and exceed customer needs. We will explore the relationship of UX to Agile development methods, help explain some of the UX jargon and present strong business reasons to focus on UX no matter where you are currently in the product lifecycle.

Manifesto for Agile UX Design
We are uncovering better ways of designing user experience by doing it and helping others do it. Through this work we have come to value:
1. Collaborative, proactive human-centric designover last-minute validation
2. Desirable design over documentation
Fewer and better features over more features
3. That is, while there is value in the items on the right,we value the items on the left more.
Formulated in a workshop with Maemo and Symbian UX designers and Alistair Cockburn, Nov-2007

UX is everywhere that's why the UX process is more Important!
Without a solid UX design process, you have a lower chance of creating a product with good UX. A well-defined and well-executed UX process, on the other hand, makes it possible to craft amazing experiences for users.
Stavros Garzonis's Ignite talk from the UXPA 2014 session "Growth by Design: Managing Change in Experience Design Teams."
The demand for experience design services is getting higher every day. As we try to manage the rapid growth of our specialist teams, we're reaching the point at which our evolved team structures can no longer cope with that demand. How do we structure our design teams to focus on quality and sustainability while ensuring our employees are kept highly motivated and have clear career development opportunities? How do we facilitate change and re-define roles to alleviate points of stress and encourage ownership and accountability at all levels? This Ignite session will bring experienced managers and practitioners together to share their insights on how they have achieved this in their own companies, to give attendees specific, actionable advice to help them manage growth in their own experience design teams.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
