2. The New Paradigm Gene Therapy
Gene therapy, the experimental strategy that requires the use of genes to prevent and
cure diseases is a fairly new technique, yet it is one which has shown steady
advancements. The journal article Gene therapy clinical trials worldwide to 2012 An
update sets out to present analysis and summaries of clinical trials that have been
performed worldwide. Authors Samantha L. Ginn, Ian E. Alexander, Michael
Edelstein, Mohammad R. Abedi and Joanne Wixon dive into some of the 1843 gene
therapytrials performed in 31 countries. Analyzing geographical distribution of trials,
searching for indications of mishaps in trials, speaking on diseases which have been
tested in trials and a general introduction to genetherapy are some of the points within
the article.
The new paradigm gene therapy, is one that houses extraordinary potential dating
back to its first successful debut in the year 2000. In its debut gene therapy targeted
X linked severe immunodeficiency (SCID X1). This disease is usually found in early
infancy and can be characterized by reoccurring infections. 20 infants underwent
gene therapy and after 9 years 8 remained alive. This opened doors for gene therapy
as the original option, finding a matched donor, typically has less of a survival rate.
However 30 months out of treatment one patient developed T cell leukemia as a
direct result of the gene therapy, raising red flags early on. A further three patients
also developed T cell leukemia and as a result it was decided
3. The Decline Of British Bees
The Decline of British Bees There are over 1500 insect species that are thought to
help with pollination in the UK. Virtually any insect that visits flowers can carry out
pollination. This includes the best known, the bees along with butterflies, hoverflies,
a few beetles and moths. Bees are a massive component in ecological systems with 78
94% of wild plant species and 75% of crop species pollinated by animals and provide
important social and economic aids to humans through crop pollination and
maintaining the biodiversity and character of the British landscape. It is generally
accepted that pollinator figures are in deterioration. Most Garden plants and
agricultural/horticultural crops rely on bees to bring about fertilisation by
transferring pollen from the flowers anthers to the stigmas. These include most tree
and soft fruits, and many vegetables including marrows, courgettes runner beans,
tomatoes and broad beans, Allowing the decline of pollinators means that plants that
are not pollinated will not produce seeds or fruits, this is a problem if not remedied
will affect the whole of the world and civilization as we know it as an abundance of
unfertilised plants could eventually lead to food shortages and environmental
destruction through the loss of vegetation. (Rhs.org.uk, 2016) What is causing the
decline? Despite their importance, both to the natural environment and people
diseases, habitat degradation and unsustainable agriculture, have placed substantial

4. America s Juvenile Justice System Essay
The Juvenile Justice system, since its conception over a century ago, has been one at
conflict with itself. Originally conceived as a fatherly entity intervening into the lives
of the troubled urban youths, it has since been transformed into a rigid and
adversarial arena restrained by the demands of personal liberty and due process. The
nature of a juvenile s experience within the juvenile justice systemhas come almost
full circlefrom being treated as an adult, then as an unaccountable child, now almost
as an adult once more.
Studies and anecdotes have shown that our modern approach, however, is ill
equipped to reduce crime or deal with chronic delinquents while at the same time
protecting their due liberties. We now stand on the ... Show more content on

Colonists placed their children either in the homes of others or, as technology enabled
the industrial revolution, in factories and other locations of modern industry near the
home. Writes Feld, ?The coterminous location of home and workplace and the limited
range of occupations enabled young people to learn most of their required economic
skills either from their parents or from surrounding adults and quickly to achieve
adult productivity,? (21). More importantly, children from a relatively young age
were expected to assume adult culpability for crimes they committed. Punishments
for children rivaled those for adults.
As time marched on, childhood became a socially constructed stage of life.
Coupled with a rise in the traditional family view of domesticity (men at work,
women isolated as homemakers), new concepts of child rearing took hold in the
middle and upper classes. Instead of exposing children to the world, ?Deferral of
adult responsibilities rather than assumption of adult roles became the child rearing
norm,? writes Feld (30). The ?child saving? movement worked to segregate children
from society both directly and indirectly. These protective measures were based
chiefly on middle class, protestant, white, rural idealists who viewed childhood as a
stage of moral immaturity and impressionability. ?Progressive reformers implemented
a variety of child saving strategies
5. Planet
In the outer limits of our solar system there is a planet unlike any other, Pluto. Pluto
was discovered in February of 1930 by an American astronomer, Clyde Tombaugh. It
is the only planet to have been discovered by an American. All though we have
known of the existence of Pluto for over thirty years now, there are still many
mysteries surrounding this celestial body. Being the farthest planethas made it
difficult to study Pluto, Adding to the obscurity of this strange planet is that the
capability to send spacecraft such distances has never been achieved. Through the
wonders of science and astronomy, there are many things that can be determined,

This gives Pluto the appearance that it is tipped on its side, which, in essence, it
virtually is. Pluto s rotation also has notable qualities. Pluto s rotation period is
6.387 days, the same as its satellite/moon Charon. Although it is common for a moon
to travel in a synchronous orbit with its planet, Pluto is the only planet to rotate
synchronously with the orbit of its satellite. Thus being tidally locked, Pluto and
Charon continuously face each other as they travel through space. From 1985 to
1990, the Earth lined up with Pluto and Charon to cause and eclipse every Pluto day.
This occurrence allowed astronomers to gather a multitude of valuable information
about Pluto and its moon. The eclipses lasted as much as four hours and by carefully
timing their beginning and ending, measurements for their diameters were taken.
Photograph s later taken by the Hubble telescope confirms Pluto s diameter of 1413
miles, and Charon s, at nearly half the size, 728 miles across within one percent
accuracy.
Astronomers where also able to determine the density of Pluto during the daily
eclipses. By discovering the density to be approximately two grams per cubic
centimeter, astronomers where able to hypothesize the make up of the planet. They
concluded that Pluto is fifty to seventy percent rock with mixed with ice.
Astronomers are also confident in the density of Charon. If correct, the approximate
density of one gram per cubic centimeter would mean that Charon
6. How Did Stalin Influence Russian Music
How Stalin influenced Russian Music of the Twentieth Century Joseph Stalin s
policies centered on inflicting fear upon his own citizens. Stalin employed policies
of fear to instill greater control over Soviet Russia. Through the great purges, Stalin
was able to assume complete power over his people. Additionally, through his
censorship of media, and his usage of propaganda, he was able to create a cult of
personality. His regime s policies greatly affected Russian musicof the Twentieth
century. Centralised control of art, paired with the fear of Stalin s reign, instilled
harsh, dissonant pieces of music. Music could no longer be composed under the
freedom of expression that was previously granted to composers. Now, music was

Shostakovich had very limited freedom in his compositions. For the next two
years, Shostakovich composed no major works. Shostakovich s next major work
was his Fifth Symphony. An article written by Shostakovich explains that his work
was an apology for his unsuccessful opera, Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District: If
I [Shostakovich] have really succeeded in embodying in musical images all that I
have thought and felt since the critical articles in Pravda... I will be satisfied. The
symphony was a success. Heralded as one of the greatest symphonies,
Shostakovich regained his reputation: Whatever personal program Shostakovich
had for his Fifth Symphony, the work received official praise and acceptance. In
analyzing the music, it is clear that Shostakovich dramatically changed his style.
The piece differed in that it was more characteristic of classical music. The
symphony shared the same structure as Beethoven s Fifth Symphony, and was less
dissonant than his other works. The reason for his change in style was likely to
appeal to Stalin s music taste: Here was a work that the ordinary music lover Stalin,
for example could comprehend. Stalin s infringement on Shostakovich s composing
style resulted in one of the world s greatest symphonies. Shostakovich was able to
compose his masterpiece, as his work needed to appeal to the public. For
Shostakovich, his Fifth Symphony seemed a matter of life or death. The
7. The Impact Of Truant Behaviors In Schools
With the passing of the Truancy SB 1317 in January 2010, and through amended
legislation since, different agencies have been impacted with the way they conduct
business as it relates to truant behaviors. Those who are most impacted by SB 1317,
are parents and other stakeholders such as, schools, juvenile justice system and law
enforcement. SB 1317, states that the families of truant youth are now being held
responsible when a child is chronically truant (California Legislative Information ,
2009). Furthermore, to help reduce youth delinquency, drug use and other criminal
activities which involve the juvenile justice system, schools are required to maintain
efficient records of attendance ( U.S. Department of Education, 2017). Schools In...

chronically truant within the 2015 2016 school year ( National Center for

accessible on school based recommendations, and an overall decrease in juvenile
crime, there are still areas which report large numbers for school based juvenile

Enforcement Truancy also has an impact on our Law Enforcement agencies
throughout California. Police officers are now hired to work in collaboration with
schools to reduce delinquent behaviors including truancies. The impact has created
a new need for police officers to work on school campus, however teachers are now
looking to on campus police to handle the discipline within the school. In
California, more than 50 percent of the school districts give staff complete option
to call police for behaviors that should be addressed by school. These disciplines
include general school rule violations, bullying, school disruption and Vandalism

9. Duke Ellington Essay
Duke Ellington
Duke Ellington s pre eminence in jazz is not only because of the very high aesthetic
standard of his output and not simply due to his remarkable abilities as a pianist,
composer and bandleader, but also to the fact that he has extended the boundaries of
jazz more than any other musician, without abandoning the true essence of the music.
Perhaps no other American musician left such a massive and challenging legacy in
composition and performance.
Edward Kennedy Duke Ellington was born in Washington, D.C. on April 29, 1899,
to parents James Edward and Daisy Kennedy Ellington. Duke, even as a teenager,
had a great talent for music. His school music teacher, Mrs. Clinkscales, who played

He would arrange dance bands for weddings and parties for extra money. He put his
knowledge of piano playing to use and played at a few of the dance parties and
weddings. After employing his artistic talent in painting posters, Duke then decided
to put together his own band.
This new music, known as jazz, was considered to be low and vulgar because it was
music that grew directly out of the Black culture. In the early years of Duke s
career, segregation was at one of its all time worst points in history. In time, jazz
became a universally recognized form of art, and has been said that it is the only real
form that has originated from the American soul.
Duke, himself, was an elegant man. When the white people looked down on the
black man and his music, Duke managed to bring dignity to every one of his
performances. Once, the jazz historian Leonard Feather described Duke as, an inch
over six feet tall, sturdily built, he had an innate grandeur that would have enabled
him to step with unquenched dignity out of a mud puddle. Duke s private life was
something of an enigma. Although he had many friends, he never really told them
everything about himself. He would often guard his privacy, probably because he
had so little of it. When he was alone though, he would almost always be arranging
the next tune for the band to play, and was always preparing something for the band
to do in the next performance. Duke

major sports event in general to note is the Boston Marathon, one of the most

The concept of honor and the connection of living our life with honor has been

as medieval times, the idea of honor is a key factor in what shapes the rules of
society. Knights would try their best to apply the Code of Chivalryto their everyday

was considered honorable in their time. Most knights would try to live to the code,

In medieval times it was called the Code of Chivalry. The knights, who used the
Code of Chivalry, were living in a much different time period than ours; as they
lived in a time period without a strong central power. What this shows, for knights
that honor for them is much more focused on the individual . As Roland and
Perceval fails to upheld their version of the code as their internal conflicts were too
much for them to handle. While in the modern era, which is much more
centralized, focuses more on the wellbeing of the group. In our society, being able
to work together with people and make decision based on the welfare of the
common people is an important rule for our people to live with. People in our
modern era works based off that important idea and it is in their nature to work
with cooperation and for the welfare of the group. The knights version of the code
in a time era where centralization was lacking was based off himself ,while in the
modern era our focus is shifted from ourself to cooperation and the welfare of our
society.

cars have advantages and disadvantages depending on how you plan to use the cars
whether it s for business or personal use. There are a lot of things you have to think
about before you decide which kind of car to buy. Gas mileage, impact on the
environment, what the automobileis going to be used for, and how much maintenance
and upkeep will cost. Safety, quality of engine, and driving convenience are some of
the things to be taken into consideration before making the choice, especially when
the automobile is for business use.
As a business that delivers medical parts to patient homes and physician offices, it
is important that we have automobiles that are reliable, good quality, safe, easy to
maintain, and good quality gas mileage that should save the company money and at
the same time good on the environment. We have used SUV s and compact cars on
our fleet before, but we have never had any hybrid cars. Both cars have advantages

18. The Economic Situation Of A County
To determine the overall economic situation of a county one must consider all of its
current risks. The country s political situation is one area to consider. Any analysis
must consider the stability of the county s current government. Other economic
indicators that must be assessed are the country s gross domestic product,
unemployment rate, inflationor deflation, the strength of country s currency, it s trade
balances and the value of its government issued bond (credit).
Political Risk
Political risk is anything that has a direct correlation with the government or
political setup of a country. For example political risk can be expressed through
political stability, currency inconvertibility, changes in taxation, corruption, and a
weak legal system for investor protection. In recent years the political stability of
Chile has not been favorable. Only 24% of Chileans support their politicians (EIU,

countries, however, recently there as been some allegations of corruption. In
February 2015, Sebastian Davalos, the president s son, had been accused of using
his authority to make profitable land deals. He had acquired $10million loan from
the second largest Chilean bank for a small property company, Caval, which is half
owned by his wife. The company later bought rural land and re zoned it to create
urban development. This made the company $5 million in profit (Roberts, 1). In spite
of these issues,

21. Policy Paradox Summary
Deborah Stone begins her book, Policy Paradox, by stating, a theory of policy
politics must start with a simple model of political society, just as economics starts
with a simple model of economic society. Deborah Stone examines two policy
making models to describe the paradox s of the process model for public policy. The
two models include: the market (rational model) and the Polis (community) model.
Stone states she contrasts these two models to illuminate some ways the market
model distorts political life. As discussed in class, the market model follows five
steps:
1.A social system in which individuals pursue their own welfare;
2.Participants in competition with one another for scarce resources by exchanging
things with others whenever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Situations where self interest and public interest work against each other are
known as commons problems. In the market model the chief source of conflict is
individual s perceived welfare vs. another s perceived welfare. In the polis model
the chief source of conflict is self interest vs. public interest, or how to have both
private benefits and collective benefits. Stone notes most actions in the market
model do not have social consequences but in the polis, commons problems are
everything. It is rare in the polis that the costs and benefits of an action are entirely
self contained, affect only one or two individuals, or are limited to direct and
immediate effects. Actions in the polis have unanticipated consequences, side effects,
long term effects, and effect many people. Stone states, one major dilemma in the
polis is how to get people to give weight to these broader consequences in their
private calculus of choices, especially in an era when the dominant culture celebrates
private consumption and personal gain. That is a

Caitlyn blames all of her failure on Kris, Kim says that instead of doing that she
should take responsibility and say that she did not call her kids not because Kris
did not want to but because she did not make the effort to do so (KUWTK, 2007).
This is an accurate representation according to Clements Nolle et al. findings because
lack of support from familymembers are important risk factors that may partially
explain the elevated rates of attempted suicide among LGBTQ youth compared to
adults. Caitlyn Jenner was 66 years old when she publicly came out as a transgender.
She depends less on the family institution for their support in comparison to youth
members of the LGBTQ communtiy that are still going through the process of
socialization and learning about the norms and expectations. In the case of Caitlyn

Karl Marx believed that social class generates a system in which people are
separated by class. This system makes it possible for the bourgeoisie to control the
means of production while the proletariat are the lower class which are often
exploited. This system also creates groups that are fighting for scarce resources,
power, social status and prestige. The members of the show are considered primary
groups because they are held together by intimate relationships by having face to face
interactions. Although they are primary groups the show portrays them as fighting or

the book written by Caitlyn Jenner, she writes about her life but at the same time she

23. My First Year Of High School
It was the year 2014 and summer had come to a close. My mind had suddenly
switched from lounging on the warm, sandy beach and being gently kissed by
sunshine to traumatizing, stressful high school. My first year of high school what
was it going to be like? Who was I going to be friends with? Am I going to get
terrible grades? These thoughts flooded my mindand I was nervous. Thinking about
being a highschooler made my throat close up and my heart beat faster. I was
overcome with fear and excitement, going into the unknown and stepping into a
freaky future. Soon the time had come to experience my classes that I had carefully
selected earlier in the summer. I was especially excited, however, about my elective
that I had chosen: classical drawing. Little did I realize that this decision would teach
me perseverance and work ethic, while opening up a world of possibilities. I had
decided to enroll in a class called Classical Drawing by Andrea Mosley. Miss
Mosley is an incredible artist, who was taught by John Angel, a former student of
the great Pietro Annigon. She was taught for four years in Florence, Italy and
mastered her incredible ability to draw. This knowledge only made me more
intrigued but exceptionally anxious. I didn t know what to expect from such a well
taught artist. I began to doubt myself even before the class started, assuming I
couldn t draw nearly as well as she. The time had come. It was a Wednesday
afternoon and I walked into class, hoping

SertГјrner. SertГјrner named the compound as morphium after Morpheus; the Greek
god of dreams, for its tendency to cause sleep; in therapeutic doses it is an analgesic.
By right it is perhaps the only chemical that has been named after the Greek god.
Morphine was isolated and purified on a commercial scale in 1833 by chemists at
Macfarlane Co. (now known as Macfarlane Smith) in Edinburgh. Functional groups
of morphine had been identified by 1881 but it took many years to really establish the
structure of morphine. The structure elucidation of morphine was completed by Sir
Robert Robinson in 1925. The full synthesis of morphine was achieved in 1952. This
synthesis took another twenty seven years.

26. Essay On Mass Shooting
It seems like an epidemic to turn on the television and have the screen be
bombarded with news broadcasts surrounding a school, college, and even churches
and having those two words engrained at the bottom, Mass Shooting . In just those
two words dread stabs its way into our hearts. Soon the media interviews a
bystander that witnessed the massacre. They describe how the blissful harmony of
mundane life was broken by the abrupt thwack of lead as it glides through the air.
The number of mass shootings has exponential increased. What drives a person to
such an immoral act? Finding the irrational motivation behind this problem goes
deeper than blaming firearms, instead it means finding the cure to the virus of mass
shootings through the three causes in the seeking of glorification, lack of an
authoritative figure, and the obsession of some radical ideology that devalues
respect of human lives. These three factors are in part what have allowed the once
random acts of mass shootings into an increasing occurrence of everyday life in
America.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This piece of the complex puzzle of mass shootings was clear in the shooting at
Columbine High School, where the two murders sought to be in the status of the

massacring the innocent can only be done if there is a lack of guidance to let the evil

27. The Defense Of The Pass Failed
Thermopylae is a mountain pass near the sea in Northern Greece, located 150
kilometers North of Athens. It was an excellent choice for defense since it had
mountains running down into the sea, the only remaining land was a narrow marshy
area along the coast. Thermopylae was a very strategic location. It commands the
pass from Thessaly through Lokris and Boeotia. Having secured the pass could block
any invaders and even make them turn back, though all three occasions, the defense
of the pass failed. The Athenians took position at Thermopylae in 352 BC, making
Philip II decide not to invade. Then, in 323 BC during the Lamian War, the general
Leosthenes blocked the Macedonian Antipater by stationing troops at Thermopylae.
Thermopylae was not the only route south from Thessaly; it was merely the fastest
and easiest route.
The Battle of Thermopylae of 480 BC was between the Spartans and the Persians.
King Leonidas of Sparta was declared to lead his men to march to the pass of
Thermopylae to guard the pass from the Greek city states. Leonidas went to the
Oracle to find out what was going to happen in the battle. The oracle revealed that
he was going to die. He knew that he would not be the only one dying, but he also
knew that the sons of his men would continue their lineage. While the Spartans
marched to the pass, they acquired more men from neighboring Greek city states. The
Persians were going through the pass to get to the Greek city states to conquer them,

Reading Response to Towards an Aesthetic of Popular Music.
In the Article, Towards an Aesthetic of Popular Music, Simon Frith proposes a new
way to look at the value of popular music. He argues that people listen to music to
create a sense of identity, express feelings, and have a sense of time. Therefore the
aesthetic of popular music is how well the music performs those specific tasks. He
then went on to break down how the proposed aethstetic could be measured using the
music itself, voice, and the sense of truth.
To support his argument of identity, feelings, and time he brought in specific facts to
illustrate each point. For the creation of an identity he explained that Irish music is
played in Irish pups because it makes the patrons

31. Treatment of Women in John Stuart Mill s The Subjection
of...
John Stuart Mill is a British philosopher who argued for the emancipation of women
and recognition of their legal rights. In his essay The Subjection of Women he calls
for the social and legal equality for women. He writes about women having equal
rights as men and implies that if women were given the same opportunities as men
then they would feel as humanas the rest of mankind. Women in his culture were
treated differently than men, but he says that if they were treated the same then
women now would probably have the same opportunities as men and it would not
be seen as something that is not the social norm for women to do. With women
being treated similar to men the roles and status of women would have been
different in his culture as well as in ours, women would not be seen as only
caretakers nor would women be seen so inferior to men because they would be
seen as capable of doing many things. Also, because of the way women were
treated in earlier times, it does seem possible that one may experience the sense of
not being a human being like any other . During the time that Mill lived women in
his culture were treated much more differently than how women are treated today. If
people from his time saw how women are treated today they would probably think
that there is something wrong with society because women were only supposed to be
in the home and they should not have the same opportunities or rights as men do
because the male was dominant and women were inferior to

Illinois was the first state to have a separate court system for juveniles. The court
act stated that a person under the age of 16 was considered a minor. It also meant
that when they would do something bad, they would be delinquents, not criminals.
Being a delinquent is nowhere near as bad as being a criminal, so it would not
follow them around all of their lives. From there, the delinquent had their own
court of law. That court differed from the normal court in many ways. Delinquents
would almost never get sent to jail. Most of the time, they would be sent to reform
homes or better known in today s day and age as a correctional facility. Most
children who were delinquents had a history of abuse, neglect, or very poor
families. The lack of love and attention from their home lives would often make
them resort to doing things illegally. The reform homes would teach them to make
better choices, as well as how to do basic life skills, similar to hull houses. Children
who would leave these homes would live happy lives, for the most part, and would
make good choices for the rest of their lives. With the reforming homes, these kids
learned to change their ways, that they could be better kids, instead of being told
that they were criminals and needed to be punished by being put in jail. What illinois

Pain Concept

MN502: Theoretical Foundations of Advanced Nursing
Dr. Phelps Introduction
Concepts are ideas that can assist nurses with understanding various situations. This
enables researchers seeking scientific theories in order to identify and measure theory
components. It is best to have clear concepts in order to prevent misunderstandings.
Confusion can hinder patient s knowledge when providing patient education. Poor
communication can lead to unintentional non compliance and delay recovery
processes (Stewart, Schofield, Elliott, Torrance, Leveille, 2014).
Pain
Young, old, male, female, we all feel degrees of pain for a variety of reasons. Pain
is real and it is different for everyone. Pain can hold a magnitude of negative effects
for all. Medication and non medication interventions are approaches that can lessen
pain. To understand pain, and how to manage pain, one should explore the true
concept of pain.
Pain can refer to an emotional, psychological, or spiritual state; also, pain may
result from a physical condition. The purpose of this paper is to study the concept of
pain and to comprehend the pathophysiology of physical pain. Physical pain can be
acute or chronic, mild or severe, dull or sharp, and in a precise location or referred
(Mosby s Dictionary of Medicine, Nursing Health Professions, 2006). Through
understanding this concept, nurses can initiate interventions that will ease the
34. The Meaning Of Life In Hamlet
The true meaning of life is unknown. There are many different ideas on what the
meaning of life is. Moreover, In the play Hamlet, by William Shakespeare there are
multiple ways the meaning of life is portrayed in three major characters; Hamlet,
Claudius, and Polonius. Hamlet s meaning of life is shown in a belief in justice, that
morphs into a craving for revenge. Claudius meaning of lifeis strictly on power.
Without power, one s life is meaningless. Finally, Polonius meaning of life is all
about reputation. Without a reputation, no one will show respect, nor will anyone
want to respect anyone. Unfortunately, all of these perspectives of the meaning of life
will lead to the characters in Hamletto breathe one last breath. Although, the
meaning of life differs from Hamlet, Claudius, and Polonius. Polonius has the most
practical understanding of the meaning of life in today s world. Without having a
good reputation one will amount to nothing. Polonius death was the only death
that can not be entirely based on his meaning of life because it was not his
reputation that got him killed, it was his love for the King that got him killed.
Hamlet went from a mourning Prince of Denmark over the death of his father, to a
revenge seeking murderer as the play progresses. This transition in character is
evident through Hamlets meaning of life; the desire for justice. After the meeting
with the ghost, his worldview completely changed to a craving for revenge. In
today s ever changing world, people who act on revenge are no longer socially
acceptable. These people who act on revenge often commit mortal sins and heavy
crimes and are set to life in prison. Hamlet is the only person to blame for his death
because of his worldview. A villain kills my father, and for that I, his sole son, do
this same villain send to heaven. (Shakespeare 3.3 76 78) At this point, Hamlet s
worldview is completely based on getting revenge for his father. There is nothing
more important in life at the time. Hamlet has just killed Polonius mistaking him as
Claudius. Moments later Hamlet is face to face with Claudius, but chooses not to
kill him because he wants the worst for him. Hamlet says I, his sole son, do this
same villain send to

Bulow Family In January of 1836 the Bulow Plantation, which was 4,675 acres,
was destroyed by Seminole Indians, but that s now where this story begins. This
story begins with a man who went by the name Major Charles Wilhelm Bulow, and
little did he know that everything he worked for would be destroyed in a mere 15
years. To begin our journey down history lane, we start with John Russell, a ship
builder. On July 28, 1812 John Russell in exchange for his ships, is granted by the
Spanish 4,675 acres of land. In 1814, tragedy struck, John Russell dies. While these
events were taking place, Baron Joachim Von Bulow, Charles Bulow s father would
purchase a townhouse in St. Augustine on April 6th, 1821. Baron Bulow was a
German immigrant who came to Charleston South Carolina, to establish the Lutheran
Church in America. After the death of John Russell, Mary Russell would eventually
sell the current day Bulow Plantation for $9,944.50 in August of 1812; she would sell
this land to Joachim Bulow. The development process of the Bulow Plantation, would
commence with a wealthy merchant from Charleston, South Carolina. Charles
Wilhelm Bulow at the prime age of 41 would obtain the land from his father; the
plantation would begin its development at this time. In August of 1821, to allow for
the initial part of development, Charles s brother would send slaves to help him

37. Human Behavior And Individual s Life Experiences
presentation
abstract
To what extent psychopathology, individual s personality and individual s life
experiences are relevant to understand terrorism?
In the current national security environment, there is no doubt that terrorism is one
of the major scourges our society is exposed to. Government has been spending
massive resources and assigned to public and private sector to prevent terrorism.
However, these attempts lack sometimes of conceptual and empirical foundation and
the definition itself has divided several social scientists. The inadequacy of
knowledge regarding this matter builds important challenges on many levels, from
policy makers regarding how a country should react to terrorism, to individual
decisions about the personality of a person who seems to display dangerous ideology.
The purpose of this paper is to present, and critically analyze different psychological
approaches regarding terrorism. As all professional literature depicting human
behavior and social matters, psychological theories have advantages and limitations.
Through the study of six scientific and professional literatures, I will evaluate to what
extent psychopathology, individual s personality and individual s life experience are
relevant to understand terrorism.
Findings
In Arie W. Kruglanski and Shira Fishman article, two approaches are used to
understand the psychology of terrorism. They distinguish terrorism as a syndrome
and a tool . The
38. Absorbance Experiment With Turnip Peroxidase
Introduction
Enzyme can be defined as a protein molecule that is a biological catalyst. (Ophardt,
2003) Catalyst increases the speed of a reaction but does not have to use anything to
help increase the speed. An enzyme can be determined by their properties. Enzyme
are a substrate specific, substrate connects to an enzyme at the location of an active
site. Enzyme is not used in a reaction and enzyme function in a good condition at the
optimum temperatures and pH. (Ahmez2005) Peroxidase is a type of enzyme which
is used in the experiment.
The type of peroxidase is used is called turnip peroxidase. Turnip peroxidase is made
up of Guaiacol and hydrogen peroxide. The reactants to the product are turnip
peroxidase or called tertraguaiacol and water. The color of the react is brown. In the
experiment was conducted there were baseline experiment, temperature, pH, 10X
substrate, Inhibitor, and half the amount of enzyme.
The baseline experiment is the control group. If the time increases over a period a
time then turnip hydrogen peroxidase will increase absorbance.
The temperature can have a major impact on an enzyme. According to Campbell
Biology author Reece etc. 2011 The enzyme reaction will increase as the temperature
increase with the increasing temperature....substrates collide with active sites more
frequently when the molecules move rapidly. (Reece etc 2011) Every enzyme hits its
optimal temperature the reaction will be at its highest point.(Reece etc. 2011) When

39. Media Consumption Of Media
The proliferation of media consumption in the digital age is an unspoken public
health crisis. While what it brings us is not without merit, the means by which we are
permitted to connect has transformed our relationship with the media into an abusive
one. The methods and channels by which we are allowed to consume mediahave been
constructed in such a fashion as to drive us towards unhealthy habits. We ve all
been placed in a collection of skinner boxes, most of us paying handsomely for the
privilege. There exists today in the world a grave and perilous danger, lurking
behind the limitless opportunity we ve presented to ourselves in what the media has
become. Without modern media we would be blind, but our modern habits allow us
to choose not to see humanity up close or in any way.
Almost every aspect of our American culture, from bacon and eggs at breakfast to
our engagement rituals to the holidays we celebrate, has been sewn into the fabric
of our lives by the media. Consumption of media has become a means unto itself,
an ouroboros like pattern from which we can find no respite or escape. We may
wish to totally extract ourselves from exposure to media directly but it is
impossible to avoid how it has soaked into our culture and even our daily habits
and rituals. Social norms are now rapidly adapting to the appropriate use of our
interface of infinite knowledge that may once and still be called a cell phone. Even
if we divorce ourselves from our phones we re still jumping

The severity of the mental and physical effects of bulimia nervosa (BN) as well as the
shockingly high initial diagnostic and subsequent relapse rates prove that the current
system in place for treating the disorder is inadequate and the consequences are
enormously detrimental. The past research on the subject focuses on fasting
behaviors common to anorexia nervosaand on sweet flavors, leaving much to be
desired in the purge binge cycle central to BN and the fatty but non sweet flavors so
often involved in the binging process. By surveying females ages 13 17 currently

Sensation and perception related psychology research has examined the relationship
between body weight, eating behaviors, and essentially the entire spectrum of taste
sensations in the past. However, less work has been done to explain the possible
physiological differences in gustation and the causes of these differences between
individuals with severe eating disorders like bulimia nervosa and those who partake
in normal eating behaviors. Additionally, the past literature focuses on differences
based on body mass index and weight classification rather than the mental
differences as the source of these taste perception disparities. The only exception to
this focus is in the context of deprivation or fasting and sweetness which are
potentially only two unhealthy behaviors and one of the taste sensations affected by
these disorders. Because so little is known about the effect of bulimia s symptoms on
taste perception, this study aims to zero in on two of the main weight losing
behaviors, binging and purging, and their individual and combined effects on fatty
taste perception since high calorie foods are important to the binge purge cycle
(Drewnowski, 1987). This relationship will be tested by surveying a bulimic
experimental group and a healthy control group to determine

is not clear whether an arrangement for payments to employees or selling
shareholders is part of the exchange for the acquiree or is a transaction separate from

Continuing employment. The terms of continuing employment by the selling
shareholders who become key employees may be an indicator of the substance of a
contingent consideration arrangement. The relevant terms of continuing employment
may be included in an employment agreement, acquisition agreement, or some other

automatically forfeited if employment terminates is compensation for
postcombination services. Arrangements in which the contingent payments are not
affected by employment termination may indicate that the contingent payments are
additional consideration rather than compensation. In a change from prior accounting

which payments are forfeited if

45. Is The American Dream Attainable
When you hear the term American Dream, what do you think of? Like many others,
you may think the American Dream is about being rich and living in luxury, but it s a
lot more simple and essential than that. In reality, the American Dream is the idea
that every American citizen has the opportunity to be successful through their own
hard work. Many wonder if it s even still attainable, but I strongly believe that the
American Dreamis more alive and well than ever because of our freedom,
opportunity, and the rise of small businesses. The third reason I believe the American
Dream is achievable is because of the rise of small businesses in America. Whether
you know it or not, there s a substantial amount of small businesses thriving all over
46. Forgiving Quality Of Lucy In C. S. Lewis
In the novel, C.S. Lewis first demonstrates the forgiving quality of Lucy in the very
beginning where she meets Mr. Tumnus. This is evident when Mr. Tumnus comes
to the realisation that Lucy is the Daughter of Eve and has not captured her but
fraternized with her and invited her for tea. The author expresses this through
foreshadow in Lucy s response for Mr Tumnus s forgiveness Why of course I can,
and I do hope you won t get into dreadful trouble on my account suggests to
responders that Lucy is willing to forgive anyone who is genuinely sorry and also
foreshadows Mr. Tumnus is later arrested by the White Witch.
In the film, the director demonstrates this forgiving quality through Lucy s facial
expression. This is illustrated when Lucy is
47. Water Quality Analysis Of The Potable And Environmental
Water
In this research project I conducted the water quality analysis of both the potable
and environmental water at various village sites, and in the New River Lagoon in
Belize. The data collected in this project contributed to the data collected over the
past decade by previous McMaster fellows and scholars. Moreover, we conveyed the
results from this study to the community partners in the villages San Carlos, Rancho
Dolores, and with the Programme for Belize the managing entity of Rio Bravo
Conservation and Management Area ( RBCMA ) which borders the New River
Lagoon. In the project we tested for bacterial contaminants, nitratenitrogen,
phosphorous, dissolved oxygen, pH, free chlorine, and ammonia levels.
In this project we continue to analyze new samples and the baseline data for any
trends in high or low levels of chemicals, as well as to keep the Belizean community
appraised of any hazards or precautions they should be taking for their drinking water
. By collaborating with our Belize community partners, we are able to discuss
possible solutions as to better techniques for cleaner water or more efficient solutions
to using clean safe drinking water.
Water is a necessity, but, when water becomes polluted with chemicals, both
inorganic and organic, it makes it difficult to use water for the health benefits and
sanitation it is normally used for. Good water quality is especially vital for Belize,
as they are largely an agricultural country. The data collected by the McMaster
48. What Is The Consolation Of Loss In A Greek Tragedy
In pieces of classical writing, including Euripides and Sophokles Greek tragedies,
as well as the more personal, philosophical writings of Seneca, Cicero, and Plutrach,
the consolation of loss is deeply interwoven with myth and drama. The idea of the
consolatio focuses on a sense of survival and endurance of grievers, and the role that
friends and loved ones play in this survival through comfort. The underlying theme in
these tragedies is that the feeling is universal, and in no way experienced alone, and
this paper will explore this concept beginning with Greek tragedy, focusing on how
these stories can console the reader, and their exploration into the loneliness of grief.
To elaborate on the Roman perspective, the techniques of Seneca and Cicero s
writings are shown to reflect and emulate these Greek ideas, demonstrating consolatio
through examples of myth and universal truths to reveal an overall similarly minded
approach to consolation in Greece and Rome.
Perhaps understandably, consolatio appears most dramatic in Greek Tragedy for
example, in Euripides Trojan Women, when Hecuba is grieving, it is evident that
she is being validated or given permission to grieve by a woman: our bitter sorrow,
/earth will now receive./ Mourn, O mother (Euripides, Trojan Women, 1227 29).
Without this confirmation that Hecuba s grief has been recognised, received and
permitted, Hecuba has no reason to stop publicly grieving. It is also significant in
that this permission (Euripides, Trojan Women, 1227 29) is given by another
woman, who would have appeared to the Greek audience as someone who could
understand Hecuba s grief, given woman s primary role as mother, as this loss also
means a loss of purpose in society. This is further emphasized in The Suppliant
Women, wherein the chorus expresses grief through explaining that they would have
grieved had they never married and had children, But now that my dear son is taken
from me/ my suffering is not imaginary; it is real (The Suppliant Women, 787 92).
These lines reflect the fact that although grieving what has been lost is more powerful
than the pain of having nothing to lose, when these women lose their sons, they are
also losing their purpose they once had. This

Self Evaluation
To be honest, I have never really enjoyed writing that much. Even though I don t
enjoy the activity, years of english classes have made it easier and more bearable
for me. In addition these classes have taught me numerous techniques and tips for
crafting a fine paper. Even though I have a few good qualities that make me a
decent writer, I believe that my greatest one is my ability to plan and structure
essays. When I write a larger paper I start with an outline that plans out my
introduction, main points, sub points, and conclusion. This outline helps me organize
my thoughts, so when it comes to writing my actual essay the process is faster and
my ideas are coherent and easier to understand. Outlining my papers before I write
51. Threshold Affects The Central Place Theory
1a)Range is defined as, the maximum distance people are willing to travel to use a
service. Range is applied to the central place theory in the way that, larger cities are
farther apart and offer services with high ranges. While smaller cities, which are
closer to each other, offer only services with small ranges. 1b)Threshold is defined
as, the minimum number of people needed in a settlement before a good or service
will appear there. Threshold affects the central place theory because, the larger cities
have all of the goods and services available in smaller towns, plus additional services
which have higher thresholds and only appear in large cities when they reach a
certain population. 1c)The hierarchy of market centers that settlements
52. Striped Pyjamas Film Techniques
The film that made an impression on me because of its techniques that were
effective in showing the themes of the story was The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas. It
was directed by Mark Herman, 2008 and is about an adventurous little German boy
whose father gets a promotion to be commandant at a concentration camp. The little
German boy, Bruno is the naive narrator. In spite of the fact that this film depends on
the Holocaustand all the great degree brutal things that happened in the second world
war, the movie is based around Bruno s understanding as a child and his friendship
with a little Jewish boy, Shmuel. The techniques I write about that illustrate the
themes of the film are; dialogue and music, acting, costume, camera shots, and
symbolism.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the camera shot zoomed outwards all of the striped pyjamas were seen in the
shot. The room was dark and striped pyjamas were stacked in piles on top of each
other on the ground. The shot of the striped pyjamas made the viewer realise how
many prisoners were killed because of how much pyjamas there were. It then cut
straight to the black door. The black door made an impression on me because the
colour of the door symbolises death and if you entered through the door no one
would come out alive so I thought the black door played a large role in the last
segment of the chamber
53. How Did David Hume The Improbability Of Miracles
The 18th century philosopher David Hume claimed that there had never been credible
testimony offered by anyone claiming they witnessed a miracle. Hume s argument
regarding the improbability of miracles is fallacious. In An Enquiry Concerning
Human Understanding (1748), Hume attempts to fortify his stance but uses a
cartesian circle, and thereby does not wholly prove against the existence of miracles.
David Hume was a Scottish philosopher, historian, economist, and essayist, who is
best known today for his highly influential system of philosophical empiricism,
skepticism, and naturalism. Hume s resistance to the teleological contention for God
s presence, the contention from design, is for the most part viewed as the most
intellectual endeavor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His argument begins with the view that a wise person always believes what is most
probable. A wise man, therefore, proportions his belief to the evidence (Hume 106).
Hume asserts that it is more plausible that the testimony is false than the possibility
of a miracle happening. He says that experience is the only guide in reasoning
concerning matters of fact (105). He likewise contends that miracles exist primarily
among the ignorant. It forms strong presumption against all supernatural and
miraculous relations that they are observed chiefly to abound among ignorant and
barbarous nations. He goes further with the idea that if someone testifies about a
miracle, they received them from ignorant and barbarous ancestors... Further, the
advantages are so great of starting an imposture among ignorant people that . . . it
has a much better chance for succeeding in remote countries than if the first scene
had been laid in a city renowned for arts and knowledge (126). Another argument by
Hume is that there is no testimony for [an alleged miracle] that is not opposed by an
infinite number of witnesses . . . Miracles have a self canceling nature. He sums up
his argument
54. Dynamic Characters In The Scarlet Ibis
Just like real people characters in books have many different traits, and they can
affect the plot of the story in many different ways. In the story The Scarlet Ibis by
James Hurst, tThe narrator has a little brother who is ill, so the older brother has to
teach him basic skills such as walking. The narrator is a round dynamic characterwho
possesses many traits. Throughout the story the narrator reveals theme and
contributes a major role in revealing the theme. The narrator has many
characteristics. One of the traits the narrator possesses is he gets frustrated with his
brother. Before the narrator s brother can walk he has to bring him places, and he
describes his brother as a burden. He was a burden in many ways (417). By calling
his brother a burden it shows he is frustrated with his brother, and his brothers
disabilities, which left a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theme is that being proud can lead to negative consequences. I did not know
then that pride is a wonderful, terrible thing, a seed that bears two vines, life and
death (419). The narrator teaches his brother how to walk and run out of his own
pride, which ultimately leads to his brother s death when his brother can no longer
keep up with narrator. Another element in this story is symbolism. The scarlet ibis
represents Doodle the. Both the scarlet ibis and Doodle are their neck position
when they died, red, and don t belong. The scarlet ibis and doodle are both red. He
had been bleeding from his mouth, and his neck and front of her shirt were stained
a brilliant red. (426). Doodle was red red after he died and the scarlet ibis is
naturally colored red. Those are just two of the many literary elements in the story.
Without the narrator the symbol of the ibis might not have shown because the
narrator is the one who taught Doodle how to walk, and the narrator left him in the
storm witch the doodle death witch revealed two out of three of the similarities
between Doodle and the

Case Study #2 Lenny Issues: The issues presented in this case study involves Sara
Olson, who is a veteran teacher, Lenny, a kindergarten student with characteristics of
a child with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Peggy, who is Lenny s
mother, and Jessica, who is a classmate of Lenny. The incident originated with Lenny
who bit Jessica on her arm during recess hours at the gym. Some of the factors that
contributed to this situation were the recess inside the gym due to weather
conditions, Lenny s characteristics of ADHD not being properly diagnosed, not
giving proper assistance to Lenny, and not having a well supervised setting during
recess. When the misadventure occurred, Sara was unprepared to deal with the

According to the text, Lenny was a hyperactive student whose actions were triggered
by loud noises, bright lights, and games. After examining Lenny, I would implement
different strategies and accommodations to decrease his hyperactivity.
Acknowledging the hyperactivity of the student, I would ask for assistance to provide
individual support to Lenny until his behaviors are well controlled. During difficult
circumstances, due to weather condition when students spend their recess inside the
gym, I would allow Lenny to walk around with supervision rather than forcing him to
stay still within his group because many of the factors mentioned that trigger his
behavior are exposed in that area. When reporting the incident to Lenny s parents, I
would have considered to properly introduce myself, state the positive actions Lenny
has made throughout that period of time, ask parents if they had seen similar
behavior at home, and then explain the incident. Knowledge: The information that
would have been beneficial to Sara includes, having communication with various
teacher and support staff and analyzing and assessing the ABC s of Lenny s behavior.
Also, taking in consideration the cultural background of the student may have
allowed Sara to take a different approach when contacting parents avoiding
misunderstandings.
