What is a pressure ulcer?
Define the PU
Know how much the economical burden for PU
This Presentation we will answer one main question
Why does pressure ulcers happen?
4. Patho- Physiology of PU
ØThe mechanism by which pressure induces tissue death is
not fully understood.
ØThere are three scenarios for what is going on.
5. 1st
Ø Ischemia caused by capillary occlusion may be the
dominant factor but other explanatory factors exist.
6. ØThe blockage of lymphatic flow may lead to the accumulation of toxic
waste products.
7. 2nd
ØReperfusion injury with the accompanying free radical development
may damage cells.
ØIt is increasingly recognized that prolonged pressure may
directly damage cells, leading to cell death.

17. Summary
Three scenarios for developing pressure ulcer
Pressure that lead to block the blood supply
The most respected theory related to biomechanical deformities
and microclimate changes due to affect of pressure over the
tissues
18. In the coming meeting will present the most
body parts that at risk for this development
