White-tailed deer are mammals that live for up to 15 years. Males grow antlers each year that are shed annually. They live near forests, streams, and farmland. Their diet consists of plants like acorns, mushrooms, twigs, and buds, which they mostly eat at night. Baby white-tailed deer are called fawns and can stand shortly after birth, weighing as much as human infants. Fawns are born in spring and later grow spots as they mature. White-tailed deer have many predators including cougars, wolves, lynxes, coyotes, and humans.
