E-commerce has grown exponentially since the mid-1990s. In 2005, American consumers were expected to spend $142-172 billion online, up significantly from just 10 years prior. There are several types of e-commerce models including business-to-business (B2B), business-to-consumer (B2C), and consumer-to-consumer (C2C). B2B e-commerce makes up the largest portion of overall e-commerce. E-commerce provides benefits like ubiquity, global reach, universal standards, and interactivity that enable new forms of transactions compared to traditional commerce.
Historical Development of Electronic Commerce
Originally, electronic commerce referred to facilitating commercial transactions electronically using technologies like EDI. It later came to include web commerce through secure servers allowing online purchasing of goods and services. While e-commerce was predicted to boom in 1994, it took 4 years for security protocols to develop sufficiently. Between 1998-2000 many businesses developed basic websites, though many dot-com companies later collapsed. Traditional retailers then began adding e-commerce capabilities to better reach niche markets identified by failed dot-com companies.

This document describes the development of an online shopping system called EasyShop for developing countries. EasyShop allows buyers and sellers to conduct online shopping and transactions using recharge cards instead of credit/debit cards, which are not widely accessible. The system was developed using ASPX/C# and MySQL. It includes modules for user registration, product browsing, shopping cart, payment, and delivery. UML diagrams including use case, class, and state diagrams were used in the design. The system aims to address issues with traditional markets like needing physical contact between buyers and sellers and inflexibility. It also allows even those in rural areas to shop online using recharge cards.

Indian e-tailing is growing rapidly but still makes up a small portion (1.5%) of the overall Indian retail market. E-tailing provides advantages like eliminating middlemen and allowing 24/7 shopping, but also faces challenges like security concerns, high startup costs, and difficulty building relationships without physical stores. While the Western e-tailing market is more mature, the Indian market has greater growth potential due to its large population, rapid internet growth, and low starting point. For e-tailing to increase its scale in India, barriers will need to be removed through regulations and infrastructure improvements while adapting to trends like increased mobile usage. Success will depend on factors like improving the customer experience through localization.

What does orthopedic surgery and governing a country have in common with knitting socks, scarves, and headbands? Nothing except the salary. Hobbyist Alicia Shaffer is earning $80,000 a month selling her handmade goods on Etsy, which adds up to an annual revenue of $960,000. That is the same amount as an orthopedic surgeon makes, and more than twice as much as the United States president makes.
Etsy is an online craft makerspace for handmade goods. ETSY is building a human, authentic, and community-centric makerspace that uses the power of business to create a better world. In an Etsy page 190Economy, creative entrepreneurs can find meaningful work selling their goods in both global and local markets, where thoughtful consumers can discover those goods and build relationships with the people who make and sell them. It’s an ecosystem that connects buyers around the world to the communities where Etsy shop owners live, work, and create. As Etsy grows it is committed to its mission ensuring its core values are woven into all decisions it makes for the long-term health of its business, from the sourcing of office supplies to employee benefits to the items sold in its marketspace.
Shaffer’s company ThreeBirdNest is named after her bird tattoo that honors her three children. Shaffer attributes her success to deep-seated motivation and access to a global supply chain through Etsy. ThreeBirdNest launched in 2011, when she made a few headbands for the small women’s clothing boutique she ran in Livermore, California. Her headbands were so popular she decided to start selling them online. “I opened an Etsy shop, figuring I‘d help pay for my kids’ soccer and dance lessons to supplement the boutique’s sales,” states Shaffer. “I was recovering from the failure of a business I’d run selling baby products—handmade slings, carriers, and blankets. After that business tanked in the recession, I’d lost a little bit of confidence in my ability to be an entrepreneur.”
In the first few weeks after its launch, ThreeBirdNest made 90 sales. Shaffer credits much of the traffic to Pinterest—she pinned her items. Still, “It was absolutely mindboggling. I thought it was a complete fluke.” But a few months later Shaffer found herself hiring a friend to help with shipping as orders began flowing like water. Through its independent website and Etsy shop, ThreeBirdNest receives an average of 150 orders per day, with most orders consisting of three items. Around the holidays, that number goes up to 700 to 1,200 orders per day. Last January, the business raked in a total of $128,000 in sales. Since its launch, it has made 100,000 sales on Etsy alone. ThreeBirdNest is unusually successful on Etsy, as most Etsy shop owners feel lucky to sell 10 pieces a month, and 65% of Etsy sellers make less than $100 from their shops in a year. Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
