Social Zombies Gone Wild: Totally Exposed and UncensoredTom Eston
Social networks have jumped onto the geolocation bandwagon with location-based tweets, status updates, check-ins, mayorships, and more. This doesn’t take into account EXIF, QR codes, and advancements in HTML 5 geo implementations, which are being built into these location-based services. This is often implemented and enabled without the user even knowing it. In fact, geolocation is one of the hottest technologies being used in everything from web browsers to mobile devices. As social networks throw our location coordinates around like candy, its only natural that bad things will happen and abuse will become more popular. This presentation will cover how social networks and other websites are currently using location-based services, what they plan on doing with it, and a discussion on the current privacy and security issues. We will also discuss the latest geolocation hacking techniques and will release custom code that can abuse all of the features being discussed.

James Turnbull, VP of Tech Operations at Puppetlabs, started off the day with a very interesting and informative talk about the past, current and future of Puppet. He showed they have a strong link to their community and plan to keep it that way. He explained that they grew from very small to 70+ people over the last year, and that brings some issues with it. They are very dedicated to fixing those issues though, and hope to improve things moving towards the future.

In this talk, I will introduce the future technical and social impact of open data on the open platform. Nowadays, web technology, whose process of standardization is open and independent of vendors, has evolved into an application platform on various devices such as PC, mobile and embedded devices. Developers of web-standards and web-based application are now trying to integrate a map technology tightly into the web standards for the future mobile web-based applications. As an organizer of a workshop aiming to discuss the future web-based map technology, I will introduce emerging technology and discussion in this area. At the workshop I held in Tokyo, Japan in 2012, many developers and researchers in various communities such as OpenStreetMap, FOSS4G, HTML5, and Linked OpenData gathered and had an enthusiastic discussion. I will summarize the discussion and future perspective at the workshop in my talk in order to discuss future technical and social possibility of OpenStreetMap on web-based open platform.

Messaging apps are becoming the new platform for users.
These platforms integrate with third party services and replace apps as browser replaced client applications.
In this context, bots act as intelligent agents that will automate day to day tasks, from ordering food, booking an Uber car, and automate also calls and messages.
At the same time, Slack has disrupted in a large scale the way we
communicate in teams, opening a new era for communications and messaging bots.
During this session, we will show how bots will replace apps and their role in next generation voice & messaging services through APIs.

Building complicated data-driven user interfaces can be difficult. Tables are one thing, but what do you do if you need to combine different types of data (with different layout needs) on the same screen?
This week we're going to discuss how to do with, using some Apple-provided sample code from WWDC 2014 as our starting point.
Writing Apps that Can See: Getting Data from CoreImage to Computer Vision - ...Carl Brown
Apps that Can See: Getting Data from CoreImage to Computer
Vision
You hear about the app that can solve a Rubik's Cube after you take pictures of
each side? How about the one that can import Sudoku puzzles by letting you take a
picture of a puzzle? Wouldn't it be cool if your apps could get information that way?
Come and learn how to integrate image processing in your apps. We'll start with
Apple's built-in CoreImage libraries, and then move on to open-source C++ libraries
that let you detect colors, shapes, letters and numbers. We'll go through quite a bit of
sample code that you can take with you to use in your apps.
We'll also talk about practical tips and experiences, like how to debug and
troubleshoot code when things aren't working the way you expected.
REST/JSON/CoreData Example Code - A TourCarl Brown
This is a talk given by Carl Brown at the 2/28/2013 CocoaCoders meeting in Austin (actually Round Rock) TX.
It describes github/carlbrown/SeismicJSON - an MIT-licensed project Carl wrote to illustrate REST JSON CoreData and NSOperations based loosely on the functionality of Apple's old SeismicXML Sample Code.
360iDev Presentation this year:
As a contract iOS programmer, I spend about 80% of my time working with other people's iOS code - either working as a part of existing teams or taking over incomplete projects from developers who are no longer around. Along the way, I've gathered a list of the common mistakes I've seen people make, the open-source libraries I've seen people misuse the most, and the really simple code changes that can make huge differences in the reliability and performance of your apps. For each mistake or anti-pattern, I'll have an explanation of the issue with it, and at least one potential remedy or remediation that could be taken.
This talk will have a lot of specific code examples on a number of different topics and technologies, so hopefully everyone will learn something. And hopefully at least something will save you some time.
Note that this will be a very opinionated talk, and I'm quite likely to step on someone's pet pattern, so there may be fireworks.
Using Regular Expressions and Staying SaneCarl Brown
Presentation I gave to the local http://www.cocoacoder.org/ meeting on using Regular Expression in Cocoa code (although much of it applies to other languages as well).

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
