Among Us is a 2018 online multiplayer social deduction game where players complete tasks on a spaceship while secret impostors try to sabotage the ship and kill other players without being discovered. The game was inspired by the party game Mafia and takes place on a spaceship instead of in a home to make gameplay more interesting. It was initially intended to be a mobile-only local multiplayer game but received an online multiplayer update after gaining a small but dedicated fan base, which helped the game succeed on Steam.

The first computer games go back to the 50s when a nought and crosses game was created using an EDSAC computer. An effort at MIT ten years later led to a the multiplayer Spacewar game developed in a PDP-1. Even though these games were primitive, a game industry was born with the first games available in special locations – arcades. Today’s games are produced with modest Hollywood budgets and some are selling more than box-office hits.
In this lecture we look at computer games and the gaming market. Also we cover the impact of gaming and the trends.

Clockwork badgers
Clockwork Badgers aims to create a new MMO called The New Age to break into the gaming industry. They previously created arcade games for Xbox 360. The New Age will have players progress as a Survivor of a catastrophe that turned some humans into psychic Angels or Demons, or play as one of the Departed who hunt them. The Powerup Dart crowdfunding project was very successful, raising over 6713% of its funding goal. It had a simple idea of creating an app-controlled paper airplane that could have aerial battles. Its campaign video showed the story and creator, making the product feel personal and appealing to children. In contrast, the Smarty Ring promised to be a smartwatch condensed into a ring but failed to deliver on its promises, leaving backers angry and damaging the company's chances of future success. It is considered one of the greatest crowdfunding fails for promising too much without a developed product.

- 5. They only had one reward, and even that they could not deliver on. They put all their eggs in the perfect razor, but they never created a successful prototype for it
- 6. Fidget Cube
- 7. This little toy you play with to relieve stress raised nearly $6.5 million.
- 8. But it couldn't deliver the toy to many of its backers. They did not create their rewards to scale. Worse, a competitor called Stress Cube filled the void.
- 10. Kingdom Death Monster is an massive cooperative board game about survival in a nightmare-horror world. They will use the fruits of their battles to build a fragile civilization in a place where humans are at the bottom of a monstrous ecology.
- 11. They marketed all of their game and were creative enough to have twelve expansion packs to offer as rewards. This incentivized bigger donations to get all the expansions
- 13. This card game raised nearly $9 million. In the game, you draw cards until the loser picks a card showing an exploding kitten.
- 14. Their NSFW or adult edition deck for $35 was what generated the most revenue. It had what kids off all ages enjoy, and something that was trendy at the time, an adult only game.
