1. What is Micro-Scholarship? - A simple culinary analogy

Cooking in an ‘open’ kitchen
Ingredients visible, to see, sample, taste, feel, smell, experience
Chef engages with, and really ‘knows’ diners preferences, what they feel like, want and need
What they are ‘hungry for’
Each meal, each dish is both an overall experience, and outcome of a cooking process; and
Is composed of individual ingredients, customised to preference and taste of an individual diner (ideally)
Each ingredient, and each cooking process and recipe (ideally) customised and individualised
Making a cooking ‘philosophy’ and approach open and visible
Training to adapt to (each) diners preference
Having access to a wide and comprehensive range of ingredients, and
training in the widest possible range of food preparation and cooking methods
Should lead to a satisfactory outcome for both diner, and chef
The metaphor of a diner, or customers for a particular chef or cuisine with a Community of Practice (CoP) or
Community of Interest (CoI) in areas of clinical practice and academic Scholarship
The role of an educator as curator, creator, and guide in providing a customised educational and training experience, and
Scholar in discovering, creating, innovating, integrating, applying and engaging in the
Scholarship of teaching and transfer to practice has echoes with culinary practice and art
