Cervical cancer occurs when cells in the cervix grow abnormally and multiply out of control, potentially spreading to other parts of the body. Symptoms include abnormal vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain, pain during sex, and abnormal discharge. Treatment options include surgery to remove cancerous tissue, chemotherapy using medicines to kill cancer cells, radiation therapy using implants or X-rays to kill cancer cells, and chemoradiation which combines chemotherapy and radiation therapy and is commonly used for early and late stage cervical cancer.
