The "Startup Visa" an Innovation in Immigration Policy for the Digital AgeNatalie Novick
States have long courted international entrepreneurs in an effort to attract investment and capital to their countries. However, existing immigration legislation is poorly equipped for evaluating today's digital companies. Startup visa policies were developed in an effort to meet the needs to tech founders who wish to bring their companies to new markets. However, they often remain ill-suited for digital startups, and the impact thus far has been limited. While these visa programs aim to lower the barriers of entry for today’s technical entrepreneurs, new innovations in the evaluation process have created additional hurdles that have impacted success. A growing private role in the evaluation of these visa applications has created a new and unique challenge for prospective entrants, while fundamentally changing the way that immigrant visas are granted.

What a year! 2021 was the second year that Cleantech Open Northeast ran entirely virtually, although we held a few outdoor social events in New York and Boston. The program grew with the participation of international startups from multiple countries in Europe, as well as Africa and Asia. This year Princeton NuEnergy of New Jersey won the National Grand Prize! The National Finalists from the Northeast are InfiSense and STAC Technology. The four Regional Winners are Innovia GEO who also won the People’s Choice Award, Osmoses who also won our first Carbon Sequestration Prize (sponsored by Sire Foundation), Princeton NuEnergy, and STAC Technology.
Peter Rothstein, President of NECEC, received a Lifetime Achievement Award. He was instrumental in bringing Cleantech Open into the NECEC family in 2015, and this partnership continues to grow stronger. Peter is retiring after 11 years in this role, and turning over the reins to Mayor Joseph Curtatone of Somerville, MA. Cheikh Dramé is our Lead Mentor of the Year, Barbra Batshalom is Sustainability Mentor of the Year, and Pam Reid and Cordula Schmid are Rookie Mentors of the Year. Thank you all for your dedication, expertise and leadership!
We are working with Browning the Green Space to encourage our startups to incorporate Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) into their ventures from the beginning. We are focused on building relationships with organizations that represent minority communities. With support from NYSERDA we introduced programming with the NY State Pollution Prevention Institute and Clean Energy Ventures to enable our startups to calculate their Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Potential (GHG-ERP). This exercise will help them in conversations with investors that increasingly care about environmental impact.
Our 2021 cohort estimates that when at scale they will collectively reduce 101 million metric tons of CO2e, which is equivalent to taking 22 million cars off the road. Plus, this is a diverse group: 62% of the founders in the class of 2021 are women or minorities or both.
Thank you to our premier sponsors MassCEC and NYSERDA who continue to believe in us and support us year after year. You push us to be better. Our work is critical—training cleantech and climate tech entrepreneurs with promising innovations to improve our planet. Our incredibly supportive and growing community makes it all possible. Congratulations to the Cleantech Open Northeast class of 2021! You give us hope for the future.
In 2020 Cleantech Open Northeast (CTONE) had the largest cohort ever with 47 startups matched with close to 175 mentors. In mid March we pivoted smoothly to 100% virtual programming. Every single startup received assistance with their participation fees from sponsors in Maine, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Canada, as well as from the Wells Fargo IN2 program at NREL. Each of the four regional winners -- Andluca Technologies, Polycarbin, RenewCO2 and T-Omega Wind -- earned $10,000 in cash. Polycarbin and CLIP were recognized as two of the six National Finalists.
We had a special focus on impact investing with a workshop at the Academy, educational webinars, and the chance for each of the startups to have a one-on-one consultation to measure their impact related to their GHG emissions reduction. We also analyzed and documented the impact of Cleantech Open Northeast. Slide three shows 68% of our startups since 2005 are still in business, employing over 3300 people. The cohorts are becoming increasingly diverse, and we aim to continue that trend.
Trish Fleming was recognized as the Cleantech Open National Volunteer of the Year, and she received the Northeast Lifetime Service Award. Roland Scott was recognized as both National and Northeast Mentor of the Year. Thank you to our long-time Regional Premier Sponsors MassCEC and NYSERDA for your continued support. With the help of many, we are combating the climate crisis, and growing the cleantech economy. With the prospective Biden-Harris administration and your support we hope to do even more!
Cleantech Open Northeast is dedicated to training cleantech entrepreneurs who are solving pressing energy and environmental challenges and growing the cleantech economy. The 2019 Cleantech Open National Winner Aeroshield and runner up Flux Marine are both graduates of Cleantech Open Northeast. 32 cleantech startups were in this cohort. Between June and December 2019 they have raised over $4 million.
Cleantech Open is like a mini MBA for cleantech startups. Learn about what we did in 2018, check out great ideas to improve the environment, and meet the innovators and entrepreneurs who are changing the world!
Cleantech Open is the world'd oldest and largest accelerator and business plan competition for cleantech startups. It's a global program. The Northeast region is very active, covering 9 states: MA, NY, PA, RI, CT, NH, VT, ME, NJ.

UNDERSTANDING WHAT GREEN WASHING IS!.pdfJulietMogola
Many companies today use green washing to lure the public into thinking they are conserving the environment but in real sense they are doing more harm. There have been such several cases from very big companies here in Kenya and also globally. This ranges from various sectors from manufacturing and goes to consumer products. Educating people on greenwashing will enable people to make better choices based on their analysis and not on what they see on marketing sites.

The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.

"Understanding the Carbon Cycle: Processes, Human Impacts, and Strategies for...MMariSelvam4
The carbon cycle is a critical component of Earth's environmental system, governing the movement and transformation of carbon through various reservoirs, including the atmosphere, oceans, soil, and living organisms. This complex cycle involves several key processes such as photosynthesis, respiration, decomposition, and carbon sequestration, each contributing to the regulation of carbon levels on the planet.
Human activities, particularly fossil fuel combustion and deforestation, have significantly altered the natural carbon cycle, leading to increased atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations and driving climate change. Understanding the intricacies of the carbon cycle is essential for assessing the impacts of these changes and developing effective mitigation strategies.
By studying the carbon cycle, scientists can identify carbon sources and sinks, measure carbon fluxes, and predict future trends. This knowledge is crucial for crafting policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions, enhancing carbon storage, and promoting sustainable practices. The carbon cycle's interplay with climate systems, ecosystems, and human activities underscores its importance in maintaining a stable and healthy planet.
In-depth exploration of the carbon cycle reveals the delicate balance required to sustain life and the urgent need to address anthropogenic influences. Through research, education, and policy, we can work towards restoring equilibrium in the carbon cycle and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
