The 21-Day Purpose Challenge Results (8/2015)Brandon Peele
The 21-Day Purpose Challenge was delivered in August of 2015, by Brandon Peele and the Planet Purpose team. Dr. Gleb Tsipursky, PhD, Professor at Ohio State University, and Planet Purpose Science Advisor, administered the Meaning and Purpose Questionaire evaluating the self-reported purpose meaning before and after having taken the Challenge. Most promising was the 1.91 differential improvement (on a scale of 1-10) in the agreement with the statement "I am satisfied with the sense of meaning and purpose in my life."

Scholastic photojournalists and the publication of graphic, spot news imagesBradley Wilson
A case study examination of how scholastic photojournalists compare with their advisers and professional photojournalists regarding the publication of various images from the Boston Marathon bombing. This presentation also shows how the case study approach and use of current events can be included into the classroom.
Combining context and HTML5 for a better user experienceNexer Digital
In this session we'll look at some HTML5 techniques and APIs, such as Geolocation and see how they can benefit us right now. We won't get code heavy but will show practical examples of where we can implement these techniques in the wild whether you're a marketer, designer or developer. We'll then look at what's coming soon to a browser near you to see where else we can take advantage of these new elements, attributes and APIs.
The idea of getting a web solution up and running is to empower one to focus on the business goal and objective. Which approach best suit your project or idea and how do you avoid reinventing the wheel?

[drupalday2017] - Speed-up your Drupal instance!DrupalDay

You just got “done” with the transformation of your organization (or parts of it) to leverage more DevOps practices, and now the next hot thing is taking over the industry: containers, Cloud Native, SRE, GitOps, Kubernetes, etc. What’s a DevOps Manager to do? Throw away the last few years and rebrand the team as Cloud Native SREs?
Technological advancement not only provides advancement in “what” a modern technology architecture looks like, it can also provide advancement in the processes and the day to day of an organization’s technology teams. We’ve seen this before in the move from mainframe to client-server, and client-server to Cloud.
In this presentation I’ll talk about the relationship of DevOps to Cloud Native technologies, and help make sense of all the jargon - containers, microservices, orchestration (and Kubernetes), SRE, GitOps, etc. I’ll also talk about how some processes & practices in the world of DevOps change when leveraging these technologies. Attendees will leave with a base understanding of what a DevOps operating model looks like when leveraging modern Cloud Native technologies.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
