data and analytics into their operations show productivity
rates and profitability that are 5% to 6% higher than those
of their peers.

Many corporations have reached at top by
incorporating big data into their operations
and many are slowly realizing its importance
and trying to do the same. Still, there are few
who are pretty cautious about exploit big
data up-to its full potential because a) their
organization is not comfortable or able b)
they have prior experience of unfulfilled
expectations from big data. Being cautious is
not going to help in utilizing this big data
boom but instead one should tackle it
systematically.

There are three mutually supportive
capabilities one need to focus on to
incorporate Big Data in the organization.
First, One needs continuous focus on
creative ways to identify usable data and
exploring new data sources. Second,
building models to predict and optimize
outcomes. One needs to be cautious about
their inherent risks and create
straightforward models. Finally, one
needs to transform the organization which
understand and appreciate the
importance of this new incorporation of
big data and capable enough to exploit it. 1 0

Managerial
Relevance
India is a developing country and this Big- Data is still new
to many organizations. Few are utilizing it, few are trying
to utilize it but majority is struggling to exploit it up-to its
full potential. First managers himself need to stop shying
away from incorporating it into organization, then, they
can move to second step of “How?”. Managers need to
understand the organization’s need and strategically start
integrating data into their functions.
It’s the manager’s responsibility to ensure the minimum
mismatch between the organization’s capability and
emerging tactics to exploit data successfully.

Big Data is Rising • Big data and analytics is slowly becoming the most important part of corporations. • Most of the top corporations like google and amazon reaches the top of their competition with the help of business models fueled over big data. • Also, big data is attracting huge investments from tech giants too. 2

It Works Organizations can improve their performance by definite amount, if they incorporate big data in their core processes. 3 According to research at MIT, companies that inject big data and analytics into their operations show productivity rates and profitability that are 5% to 6% higher than those of their peers. 6%
  • 4. Leaders Are Still Cautious? • Unable to use the existing data programs up-to their potential. • Current analytics program is too complicated or didn’t yield any insights. • 90’s boom of CRM does not turn out to be as expected and many are still under that impression. 4
  • 5. 5 What’s Needed ? Pragmatic approach tightly focused on how to use the data to make better decisions. Requires three mutually supportive capabilities : 1. Ability to identify, combine, and manage multiple sources of data. 2. Capability to build advanced analytics models for predicting and optimizing outcomes. 3. Management must possess the muscle to transform the organization so that the data and models actually yield better decisions.

Choose The Right Data Bigger and better data give more- panoramic and more-granular views of their business environment. • Source data creatively • Be creative about the potential of external and new sources of data • Get the necessary IT support • Quickly identifying and connecting the most important data for use in analytics 6
  • 7. Build Models That Predict and Optimize Business Outcomes Identify the business opportunity and determining how the model can improve performance. Be cautious about the inherent risk that modelling follows. “What’s the least complex model that would improve our performance?” 7
  • 8. Transform Your Company’s Capabilities There is a mismatch between the organization’s existing capabilities and the emerging tactics to exploit analytics successfully. Using big data requires thoughtful organizational change, and three areas of action can get you there. 1. Develop business-relevant analytics that can be put to use. 2. Embed analytics into simple tools for the front lines. 3. Develop capabilities to exploit big data. 8
  • 9. Insights Many corporations have reached at top by incorporating big data into their operations and many are slowly realizing its importance and trying to do the same. Still, there are few who are pretty cautious about exploit big data up-to its full potential because a) their organization is not comfortable or able b) they have prior experience of unfulfilled expectations from big data. Being cautious is not going to help in utilizing this big data boom but instead one should tackle it systematically. 9
  • 10. Insights There are three mutually supportive capabilities one need to focus on to incorporate Big Data in the organization. First, One needs continuous focus on creative ways to identify usable data and exploring new data sources. Second, building models to predict and optimize outcomes. One needs to be cautious about their inherent risks and create straightforward models. Finally, one needs to transform the organization which understand and appreciate the importance of this new incorporation of big data and capable enough to exploit it. 1 0
  • 11. 1 1 Managerial Relevance India is a developing country and this Big- Data is still new to many organizations. Few are utilizing it, few are trying to utilize it but majority is struggling to exploit it up-to its full potential. First managers himself need to stop shying away from incorporating it into organization, then, they can move to second step of “How?”. Managers need to understand the organization’s need and strategically start integrating data into their functions. It’s the manager’s responsibility to ensure the minimum mismatch between the organization’s capability and emerging tactics to exploit data successfully.
