October 11th, 2009 2:48 am list some off the top of my head. Some of my favorite
                                            blogging tools would be:

                                            1. WordPress - Of course!
                                            2. Twitterfeed - I so love this.
                                            3. Redirection - This is a great plug-in that helps with those
                                            urls that need a change.
                                            4. Theme Tester - When I working on putting in a new theme,
I use this to test things out before I put it out live to the world.
                                            5. SEO Plug-ins - I use a combination of All in One SEO
                                            Pack and Headspace2.
                                            6. TextWrangler - I love this text editor. I use it for writing
posts and other ideas I write down. I use a Mac and not sure
if this is for Windows as well.
                                            7. MindMapping - I use different mindmapping software
online and offline. Google Wonder Wheel, FreeMind, Mind
Meister and a couple other ones.
                                            8. WP-Polls - I love this plug-in. It is a easy to setup and
maintain plug-in for putting polls out on your blog.

I have many more but don’t want to keep going on and on :)

                                            My favorite blogging tools include;

                                            1. Disqus Comments - I love the twitter, facebook, and
                                            openid intergration
                                            2. Feedly for Google Reader - Google reader is great to keep
up with my blog engagement and Feedly makes it 10 times
                                            better.
                                            3. Sharethis plugin - opens your articles up to social sharing
                                            in an extremely easy way.
                                            4. Tweetmeme button - makes retweeting articles extremely
                                            easy for readers.
                                            5. Wp-Polls - I love this plugin, it lets me easily add a poll into
my sidebar and posts with one button. Increases community
                                            engagement as well.
                                            6. Google Analytics - stats, stats, and more stats! You’ve got
to know how your blog is performing in order to make it
better. Can’t think of a better tool to do it with.
                                            7. Google Calendar - I use this for creating my editorial
calendar. This helps me to stay on top of blog posts, not re-
write anything, and stay consistent in writing.
                                            8. Related Posts Plugin - keep reader engagement high once
your article is over by offering more articles for them to read.
                                            9. WpBook Plugin - this actually helps incorporate your blog
into Facebook. When someone comments on a post you
made in Facebook it shows up on your blog as well.
                                            10. WP Super Cahe - this plugin is great because it saves
pages onto reader’s computers for faster loading. Great if
you have a high traffic website - keeps it from crashing.

Writing part of the blogging routine: Google Doc - I can

etc. Google Reader - looking for inspiration, something that
sparks off a new idea for a blog post and when I’m done, it’s
time to type into search box of Google Reader again so I can
have a list of related links for my post. I use Picnik for image
editing. Any online dictionary to check spelling and grammar.

Plugins: I love Apture - can embed pics, videos, links, which

in turn gets sent to Facebook and Twitter. Of course, I still
have Tweetmeme on my posts for readers who want to share
                                            the love.

                                            4. WordPress Database Backup
Backs up your blog. Also lets you schedule backups and
                                            sends them to your email.

The best social bookmarking site, in my opinion. Sends out a

October 11th, 2009 6:29 am much more likely to comment on a blog that has it because I
know it will lead others back to me. And it works both ways
as soon as I started using CommentLuv my comments
trebled overnight, literally. I just discovered linkWithin and I

Ian M Rountree Ok. So if we’re looking for actual tools, I’ll come short of 10
October 11th, 2009 12:59 pm by a long shot. However, in the interest of keeping my blog
                                            going, someone could:

1 - use Disqus for comments, so you don’t lose anything on
any of the sites you either run, or comment on.
                                            - troll the wordpress codex weekly looking for new toys to
play with, be they themes to hack or plugins t try.
2 - write everything, whether it’s worth posting or not. Set it on
a delay if you have to, if you’re not sure it’s worth having said,
but write it down anyway, just in case.
3 - read lots of blogs on lots of subjects, and pay attention to
trending feels; sometimes a marketing blog anda design blog
will say the same thing within hours, even when the authors
                                            don’t know each other.
4 - use a reader, like Google Reader to keep new posts
popping up as they’re released. This also helps when looking
                                            for trends.
5 - use Google Alerts if you’re planning a farther reaching
series of posts. If you get good at it, you can ride the wave
and pick excellent times to release your comments.
6 - Tumbl. Whether it’s through tumblr or through your own
site. I built a Tumblelog function into my WordPress theme
for this. Tumbling keeps content flowing, and means if
someone said it well enough, you can just toss people
through to them, rather than expending extra energy rewriting
                                            it yourself.
7 - keep reading offline too. Pick up a good book every so
often, fiction or non-fiction, and read it critically to pick up on
the author’s voice as well as the story they tell. This will help
your writing, which will help your blogging.
8 - get a pen pal or two, keep up with people. When you’re
conversing in long-letter format, your skills go up as well.
Twitter might force you to get better with your words, but
there’s no substitute for cohesive, directing writing.
9 - red ProBlogger. Do I get brownie points now?
10 - keep YOUR own voice. Above all else.Sometimes it
takes years to develop a writing voice, but readers can
recognize when a post is forced, or when you’re playing
copycat. Write like yourself and you’ll enjoy writing more, and
keep blogging longer. If you’re not writing your own words it
becomes a chore, and chores have a habit of getting the
lowest spot on the priority list.

There we have it. At least, that’s my list. I know it’s not as
snazzy as using Posterous or Delicious for notes and
employing time-management tools. But trust me, if you
remind yourself consciously of even three of these things
every post you make, writing as a process will become (if it’s
not already) one of your favorite things.

Kenya S. I am new to blogging, so I only have two tools to share. My
October 12th, 2009 2:18 am favorite two tools are Digsby and My Share the Love Widget.
Digsby isn’t really a blogging tool, but it helps my blog just the
same. It is a sort of instant messenger program that
combines a lot of services, but the best for my blog is a
pingbox widget. I put this on my blog, and whenever I am
online, my blog visitors can talk to me instantly. Also, which is
why I like it better than the Yahoo Pingbox, it gives me the ip
address of the visitor that I can click on, and find out where
the person is in the world.

I also like my “Share the Love” widget. It is really the same as
the “Sharing is Sexy” widget you see on many blogs, just with
a title line. It has a button for almost every social
bookmarking site, so if people want to share what I have
written, they can do so right at the bottom of my posts.

Rob McPhillips Some great new tools to investigate. It’s hard to stop at 10.
          October 12th, 2009 2:20 am        My list would be;

                                            1. Wordpress for it’s ease of use and flexibility.
                                            2. Thesis for the same reason.

                                            wrong.

  • 12. What are Your Favorite 10 Blogging Tools? 7. WP Greet Box 8. MailChimp 9. NewsFox 10. Photobucket Ian M Rountree Ok. So if we’re looking for actual tools, I’ll come short of 10 October 11th, 2009 12:59 pm by a long shot. However, in the interest of keeping my blog going, someone could: 1 - use Disqus for comments, so you don’t lose anything on any of the sites you either run, or comment on. - troll the wordpress codex weekly looking for new toys to play with, be they themes to hack or plugins t try. 2 - write everything, whether it’s worth posting or not. Set it on a delay if you have to, if you’re not sure it’s worth having said, but write it down anyway, just in case. 3 - read lots of blogs on lots of subjects, and pay attention to trending feels; sometimes a marketing blog anda design blog will say the same thing within hours, even when the authors don’t know each other. 4 - use a reader, like Google Reader to keep new posts popping up as they’re released. This also helps when looking for trends. 5 - use Google Alerts if you’re planning a farther reaching series of posts. If you get good at it, you can ride the wave and pick excellent times to release your comments. 6 - Tumbl. Whether it’s through tumblr or through your own site. I built a Tumblelog function into my WordPress theme for this. Tumbling keeps content flowing, and means if someone said it well enough, you can just toss people through to them, rather than expending extra energy rewriting it yourself. 7 - keep reading offline too. Pick up a good book every so often, fiction or non-fiction, and read it critically to pick up on the author’s voice as well as the story they tell. This will help your writing, which will help your blogging. 8 - get a pen pal or two, keep up with people. When you’re conversing in long-letter format, your skills go up as well. Twitter might force you to get better with your words, but there’s no substitute for cohesive, directing writing. 9 - red ProBlogger. Do I get brownie points now? 10 - keep YOUR own voice. Above all else.Sometimes it takes years to develop a writing voice, but readers can recognize when a post is forced, or when you’re playing copycat. Write like yourself and you’ll enjoy writing more, and keep blogging longer. If you’re not writing your own words it becomes a chore, and chores have a habit of getting the lowest spot on the priority list. There we have it. At least, that’s my list. I know it’s not as snazzy as using Posterous or Delicious for notes and employing time-management tools. But trust me, if you remind yourself consciously of even three of these things every post you make, writing as a process will become (if it’s not already) one of your favorite things. Jeff@MySuperChargedLife I consider the following priceless: October 11th, 2009 1:15 pm 1. Windows Live Writer 2. Banner Maker Pro (for easy banners!) 3. Flickr 4. CamStudio (free screen recording) 5. I am new to blogging, so I only have two tools to share. My October 12th, 2009 2:18 am favorite two tools are Digsby and My Share the Love Widget. Digsby isn’t really a blogging tool, but it helps my blog just the same. It is a sort of instant messenger program that combines a lot of services, but the best for my blog is a pingbox widget. I put this on my blog, and whenever I am online, my blog visitors can talk to me instantly. Also, which is why I like it better than the Yahoo Pingbox, it gives me the ip address of the visitor that I can click on, and find out where the person is in the world. I also like my “Share the Love” widget. It is really the same as the “Sharing is Sexy” widget you see on many blogs, just with a title line. It has a button for almost every social bookmarking site, so if people want to share what I have written, they can do so right at the bottom of my posts.
