• The onset of blogging has revolutionized the world in the sense that it gives us a new
platform to express ourselves and our innermost thoughts.
• Years ago, only the internet pioneers and tech-savvy individuals have blogs. But trough the
years, blogging grew us a phenomenon.
• Blogs used to be like simple online diaries where people can record their thoughts, freeze
moments of their lives, and share them with the rest of the world. Today, the function of
blogging have grown much beyond self-expression
USES OF BLOGGING
– Blogs are like online diaries which can be read by anyone who visits them.
– Blogging gives people the chance to communicate in a manner unlike in face-
to-face communication.
– Blogging is also an activity where you can share your life with anyone who
might be interested, through the pictures you post, the narrated memories, and
other snippets of your life that you upload.
- You can use blogging not just to express yourself but to build an online portfolio that
can promote your skills and talents.

days because of its intuitive user interface. It is one of the preferred blogging
platforms in the Philippines, running neck and neck with Wordpress (installed).
- it is easy to use service that features custom templates, a lot of helpful
blogging add-ons, and search support courtesy of Google, which now owns it.
- it allows you to monetize your blog through advertisements, particularly with
Google AdSense which allows you to have plenty of blogs on one account and you
can upload lots of photos onto your site as well.
POPULAR BLOGGING PLATFORMS

www.blogdrive.com
Typepad Blogging service available in several languages www.typepad.com
Blogsome Fast blog host based in Ireland www.blogsome.com
Blog Blog hosting with unlimited bandwidth www.blog.com
 Don’t rush into picking a blog platform because it would be a hassle to transfer if you decide later
that you want another host. Transferring entails extra cost and time
2. Determine if you want a hosted blog or a standalone blog
are the type that many bloggers start out with because they are easy to set up,
free and require hadly any coding. They are called “hosted” because they do not have their own domain.
The blog address will usually be a combination of the chosen blog name and the URL of your host (example:
www.markmacy.blogspot.com or www.dumprincess.wordpress.com)
they have their own URL such aas www.lalove.com. Having a unique URL without
the inclusion of the host’s is an advantage because it give distinction and identify to the blog which
becomes easier to recall.
- ideal if flexibility is valued, especially when it comes to the design
- can be customized to the blogger’s liking
- it is not free since you have to pay for a few things
Three things that you usually pay when you choose
STANDALONE Platform
the systme you use to publish your blog which may or may not offer the
service for free
b. Hosting - the system that lets your blog become accessible over the internet
c. Domain Name - the blog address you will use. Choosing a domain name can be tricky
because the domain name you prefer migh be taken already then you need to change it.
3. Compare the features of different blogging platforms.
 review the services offered by the different blog hosts and find the best one that matches the
goals of your blog. Check out the different templates and add-ons offered including applicable
costs so that you can allot a budget.
 one of the local social networking in the Philippines is the wherein it has grown tremedously
in the past few years as more Filipinos create their own blogs to express themselves.
 Many Filipino bloggers have learned to make their blogs and websites and earn money
through advertisements and other programs
 Based on the Yugatech.com that attempted to trace the roots of blogging in the Philippines,
it’s been accepted that LAUREN DADO made the first blog in the country back in 1996. She
was then 10 years old and was inspired by the blogging of a British girl, named Haley
MICRO-BLOGGING
- a new form of blogging that allows users to write short text updates or post small media files like
photos and publish them through tools like mobile phones, instant messaging programs, or directly form
the Web.
 The most popular micro-blogging tool today is TWITTER which allows users to post status
updates via SMS, e-mail or Web brower.
Uses of Micro-blogging
• You can use it to instantly know what your friends are up to or what they’re thinking
• You can use it to update your friends of your activities or promote something (example: if you have a
new blog entry, you can post the link to that entry so your friends can click on it to go directly to our
blog post).
• A lot of businesses use micro-blogging to disseminate information on their products and services
• Celebrities and politicians are now into micro-blogging to regularly update their fans and supporters of
what’s going on with their work and life
RESPONSIBLE BLOGGING
1. Verify your facts.
 Do your research and verify facts before you post or react to comments in your blog. Don’t be lazy and
publish anything without looking at a story, idea, issue, or argument from all sides to be able to exercise
objectivity.
 lack of research may result in misinformation that can makey you appear irresponsible and tarnish your
online reputation
2. Quote sources properly.
 Always give credit and create a text or image link to the source whenever you refer to any idea, writing, or
creation of any other person
 Provide a citation or information that readers can use to track down source if the original source cannot be linked
to easily.
 Quoting sources properly allows readers to get to the root of the facts and it shows respect to your sources.
Claiming someone else’s work or idea as your own is a breach of ethics which can also lead to legal charges in
extreme cases.
3. Check your entries on sensitive or controversial issues.
 Check your planned entry before posting a controversial or sensitive issue to make sure you are as
objective as can be
4. Be civil and respectful.
 How you say things says a lot about the kind of person you are. While having a blog gives you the
freedom to say what you want or put whatever words you like, the use of socially unacceptable words
will ultimately damage you and you alone.
 You have to critize things in the most civil way. The abillity to put your criticism and point across politely
reflects on your breeding.
5. Control the comments.
 You must exercise responsibility and control over what other people post on your blog through the
comments
 Have the choice to allow comments to be approved automatically or to screen comments first before
they are posted.
 If you blog about sensitive issues, criticisms, and negative reactions that are inevitable, draw the line
towards the use of foul and derogatory words.
6. Apply discretion when a post is sponsored.
 A blog post that is paid for and written for the benefit of another is called sponsored post. It
is better to disclose when an entry is a sponsored post to remain transparent to your
viewers and to build on your credibility
 If the company or person you’re writing for does not object, it’s usually a courtesy to post a
disclosure notice at the end of each sponsored post or anywhere suitable on the page of
your blog.
