Wheelectric aims to harness wasted energy from shopping trolleys being pushed by customers to power an automated system to return abandoned trolleys to the hub. Their team consists of students from various engineering backgrounds. They have developed prototypes demonstrating an infrared navigation system and how a motor can generate energy from movement. Their planned commercial system would use 36V batteries charged by 0.5A generated from pushing trolleys along with other renewable sources. Their goal is to make parking lots cleaner while providing renewable energy to power facilities or sell to the grid.
