Mr. Ureña teaches 8th grade physical education. He has degrees in recreation administration and health and physical education. His goals are to teach motor skills, body movements, hand-eye coordination, and encourage healthy lifestyles. Students will learn digital tools and their appropriate uses. They will create animated videos showing athletic movements and games learned, using provided software. Therefore, MyHealthEd aims to provide this important education to students during the school day and strives to decrease rates of teen pregnancy and STIs through its adapted version of Reducing the Risk. Using their teaching experience to inform their research, co-founders Liz Chen and Vichi Jagannathan are pilot testing the MyHealthEd intervention in several Eastern North Carolina high schools and are eager to share preliminary results, implementation barriers, and lessons learned.
