What Am I Up To Now Rtn Michael Griscti
Last week we held our Club Assembly and I was impressed by the turn up of members present
and pleasantly surprised by their participation also. We viewed a DVD put out by DG David
Rands called “The Winds of Change” which is a documentary featuring Past International
A decade of promoting peace Director Stuart Heal who looks at all aspects of Rotary International and how we may fit into the
picture going forward in keeping our Club running. Stuart’s viewpoints are very interesting and
worth watching. If you weren’t able to be there last Monday I would encourage you to borrow the

INTERNATIONAL SERVICE
Bobby provided an update on the End Polio Now fundraising where Club members have sold virtually all the
100 pins and 10 comic books to raise money for the Foundation Project. A total of $491.50 had been raised
including the money that Penny raised in her workplace by holding a special morning tea fundraiser. There
may be a few more dollars to come in, but generally we should be pretty happy with this fund-raising effort.
Bobby again reminded everyone about our Club’s upcoming International Night on the 19th March and
handed out a flyer to each member. A mention had already been made in the last edition of the Weekly
Bulletin. A minimum of 30 people are needed in order for the Tavern to serve the special meal so members
are encouraged to invite their partners and any friends who may be interested in coming along.
Don’t forget the GSE events coming up, which include:
The Outgoing GSE Team’s Trivia Night being held on the 30th March at the Tattersalls Club in the City.
Should be a fun event - $40 including platters of dips and canapés.
The GSE Incoming Team’s farewell dinner on the 28th March at the Castle Hill Bowling Club. This dinner will
replace our normal Monday night Club meeting.
For more information on any of these events please contact Bobby.

Club Assembly
“The Winds of Change” - Stuart Healy talks about his vision of Rotary Clubs of the Future. How clubs will
need to change to meet the needs of our more mobile population; Change rules without changing principles.
The world is moving so fast that we will need to keep up with it.
He talks about what we want and that we are able to make changes to suit the needs of our members. We
have the empowerment to become more flexible. To energize – change traditional clubs by revitalizing the
way we run our meetings and change to accommodate younger people. Most members are in their twilight
years but we need to retain them as their experience matters and we need them to mentor our new members.
We need to meet people from other walks of life and include them as members in our Club. Networking has
become the way of the future too. Use database resources such as Facebook, Twitter, and the Rotary
Website.
Our Rotary Magazine is also effective communication and is now available on the website.
Attendance used to be measured, however now we rely on participation in club projects more.
Comments and suggestions put forward by members:
RDU magazines – suggest we save these and place our club’s details on them and distribute to
businesses including doctors, dentists, physio’s etc. Practices in our area.
Look at Hills zone clubs to look at changing traditions (President Penny will raise at next Hills
Zone Meeting to be held 22nd March
Key component in encouraging the young – Generation XY will work for a project but doesn’t want
to belong to a club. Look at involving Youth Community Groups in assisting in projects.
Look at encouraging 40-50 age groups as possible members
Look at a more social club – include more social events
Rotary change is happening all the time
Young couples can’t afford Rotary membership fees and are busy raising their families
Flexibility for Clubs to do their own thing
E-Clubs – way of the future
Other points raised:
Cub Runner - need more understanding of how it works. PP Wilf van Emmerik will make the
presentation he put together available and may do an updated Club Runner night as some
members were not present when he presented it to the club.

President Elect Training (PETS)
Following a weekend at the multi-district President Elect Training (PETS) in
Campbelltown, Bobby reported back on what she saw as a very positive
experience increasing both her knowledge of the role of President and her network
of fellow Rotarians from Districts 9680, 9690, 9710 and 9750. Bobby said that the
multi-district element was particularly important in her view, given it provided the
opportunity to meet and share information with such a wide range of people,
fostering a better understanding of the experience of being a Rotarian in different
parts of Sydney and surrounding areas.
The training included training in such areas as: the roles and responsibilities of a
President; and working with your club, District Leaders and District Budgets. It
looked at Membership; PR; the Rotary Foundation; Polio Plus; service projects and
social media to name but a few areas.

P – President PP - Past President PHF - Paul Harris Fellow At a country-club party a young man was
introduced to an attractive girl. Immediately he
began paying her court and flattering her
Club Calendar outrageously. The girl liked the young man, but
she was taken a bit aback by his fast and ardent
pitch. She was amazed when after 30 minutes he
seriously proposed marriage.
"Look," she said. "We only met a half hour ago.
How can you be so sure? We know nothing about
each other."
"You're wrong," the young man declared. "For the
past 5 years I've been working in the bank where
your father has his account.".
