1 Members shall respect and protect the civil and legal rights of all individuals.
Inmates are still people and deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. They still have civil and legal rights and it is part of the correctional facility's job to ensure all individuals, inmates and staff, are treated safely and within the law.
1 Members shall treat every professional situation with concern for the welfare of the individuals involved and with no intent to personal gain.
Correctional facilities should strive for professionalism in all situations and ensure that their staff acts professional. Prisons can be dangerous and inmates can act out and be disrespectful on a regular basis. This can make the environment stressful and cause staff to react in unprofessional ways. Regardless of the situation, all staff should act professional and ensure the welfare of all individuals. This includes not acting on behalf of themselves for personal gain.
The adherence to the ACA Code of Ethics should be for all prison types, not just based on the prison security type. Any type of correctional facility can be at risk for failing to uphold the ACA Code of Ethics whether it is a minimum or maximum security facility. Any facility can be dangerous and prone to ethical violations, therefore all staff should uphold these ethics to ensure the best possible outcome for safety, honestly, respect, and dignity for all staff and inmates.

RE: Week 8 Discussion
Organized crimes are criminal activities that are planned and controlled by powerful groups and carried out on a large scale. The FBI investigates organized crimes such as drug trafficking, sexual exploitation of children, prostitution, and alien smuggling are all organized and serious crimes. The FBI discovered years ago that organized crime groups engage in multiple criminal actives and have extensive supporting networks. Therefore, the FBI must think like criminals before they are able to capture criminals.
The FBI agents must remain proficient in areas such as terrorism, counterintelligence, cyber-crimes, violent crimes, white-collar crimes, and organized crimes. After years and experience of properly identifying these crimes, it becomes easier for FBI agents to immediately identify these crimes and capture criminals much faster.
Street gangs are “ongoing groups, clubs, organizations, or associations of five or more individuals that have as one of their primary purposes the commission of one or more criminal offenses.”
There are more than 33,000 street, prison, and motorcycle gangs members in the United States. The more violent and fear-inducing gangs in the United States at present are the Mexico-based La Familia and El Salvador’s MS-13. La Familia is a violent, heavily armed organization that is heavily engaged in drug smuggling, money laundering, and weapons trafficking across the border into the United States.
I do not feel the law enforcement strategies being employed against gangs are successful. In most places such as Honduras, the law enforcement officers fear gangs. Some law enforcement officers are forced to work for gangs. The gangs outnumber the law enforcement. There are prison gangs and once someone becomes a gang member, it impossible to get out. It is a life commitment.
All people that I can remember that were in gangs from when I was in high school are all deceased or in prison doing serious time.

Tony GutierrezRE: Week 1 Discussion 1
According to our text, in 1987, Bob Barrington, executive director of the International Association of Correctional Officers, said in a discussion about prisons, "correctional facilities. . . run smoothly and efficiently for one basic reason: the professional and forward-thinking attitudes and actions of the correctional officers employed." Professionalism is always an area that is worthwhile for training. In corrections, when the staff and correctional officers are acting professionally, then the work is being done more effectively. This means that safety and control are more likely being achieved along with many other positive outcomes. Unprofessional behavior can lead to problems with inmates, other staff members, and cause a sense of distrust and bitterness in the correctional department. One example of professionalism in corrections is to treat the inmates with a certain level of respect and dignity, even when they may not deserve it. Inmates will often taunt and disrespect correctional officers, a true professional will still do their job to the highest standard and maintain order and safety in the facility.
Two types of punishment that were previously used to deter crime are:
1. Branding- Branding is a type of mutilation that was used by Roman society. Criminals would be branded with a mark or letter that signified their crimes, and they would be placed on the forehead or another part of the face. This would be used to warn others that the offender has a criminal history.
2. Public humiliation- Public humiliation was used to humiliate the criminal. Some received corporal punishments is public or they had to sit in the stocks were they could be ridiculed, hit with eggs or rotten fruit, and whipped. This also served as a deterrent to other people who may try and commit the same crimes.
I don't believe that either of these types of punishments would be an effective means to deter crime today. Our society thinks much differently today than societies that used these methods in the past. I believe that most people today would consider these to be "cruel and unusual" punishments. Most past societies sought to just punish the criminal, and they did not seek to try and reform him. Our current society believes in punishment and reform, not just punishment. If you are trying to reform a person, branding and humiliation is generally not.

seven goals of punishment?” The death penalty does provide revenge, but does it

RE: Week 6 Discussion 1
Supranational courts are judicial mechanisms that direct judge’s decisions across international borders and supposedly have a higher legal standing than decisions of courts in individual countries and they are part of a larger trend to promote global human rights and global justice. Supranational courts serve to help provide individual citizens who have exhausted all their legal means of redress but feel they have been wronged by the justice system in a particular country and they hold those responsible for international law violations to a higher standard than are present in domestic courts. The Rome Statue is an international treaty binding only on those states that formally express their consent to be bound by its provisions. Clinton administration signed the treaty in late 2000, but the Bush administration immediately “unsigned” it in 2001. After they “unsigned” the treaty U.S. congress passed American Service Members Protection Act, which prohibits American Cooperation with the ICC. This authorizes the president to use military force against the court if it attempts to prosecute an American Citizen. One of the main concerns against the ICC is the fear that the U.S., being as powerful as it is, and with military present throughout the world would be vulnerable to prosecutions. Obama took a different route with this treaty stating they will work with the ICC on prosecution on certain matters. The ICC also prosecutes against a panel of judges that could be walking a fine line of violating the 6th amendment. This is not exactly giving the rights to an accused person in a criminal case, if a panel of judges within that country are reviewing your case. When in the U.S. they have the right to a jury trial. I do believe these concerns are valid, especially with the military. The U.S. military is everywhere, like previously stated, if they could be prosecuted in another country they would become more of a target then they already are.
One huge factor that will/can impede this principle is the media. The media will take one small statement they heard and run with it. Then it turns into something else and so on. During larger trials the jury is sometimes not allowed to review the news or any forms of media, due to possible swaying of the case. This keeps the case to only what is h.

The four reasons for sentencing are Retribution, Deterrence, Incapacitation, and Rehabilitation. Retribution is the punishment for knowingly breaking society’s rules. Deterrence is like retribution, but instead of just punishment for the crime, the idea is preventing the crime from happening again in the future with the sentencing chosen. Incapacitation is defined as harsher sentencing for crimes that in hopes will deter others from committing the same crime in society. Rehabilitation is using programs within the prisons to help the inmates make a change within themselves so that when they are released they will no longer be a threat to themselves or their community. In the case from the text I saw that the deterrence philosophy was in use. They got such long sentences to be used as an example and to try and deter others from committing the same crime. When it comes to non-violent crimes I think that if more rehabilitation is put into action and the programs are actually worked with non-violent offenders, they should not receive such lengthy sentences. I understand the point of deterrence but at the same time the extreme long sentences should be there for violent offenders, there are already overcrowded prisons as it is.
The federal sentencing guidelines were put into place to “remove judicial bias from the sentencing process” (Gaines & Miller, 2017, Cengage Learning). These guidelines have become harsher than they were before by far. The average Federal sentence in 2004 was fifty months which was more than doubled since 1984 (Gaines & Miller, 2017, Cengage Learning).
The trend from our text that applies to the case is inmates serving more time. They were given quite the lengthy sentence for a non-violent crime. Decarceration is the attempt to lower the incarceration rates. There are three different ways to go about doing this and they are: decreasing the chances that nonviolent offenders will return to prison, increasing the number of nonviolent offenders released from prison, and decreasing prison sentences for probation and parole violations. I agree with the Decarceration trends, as they are helping to alleviate the numbers of people in prisons for nonviolent crimes so that we have the room to keep the violent offenders out of our communities.

In Chapter 11 you learned about the four basic philosophical reasons for sentencing criminals. Briefly discuss these four reasons in your own words.
The 4 basic philosophical reasons are:
Retribution: justice and punishments are done to who commits a crime- Just Deserts: meaning a punishment should be done on the severity of the crime.
Deterrence: preventing future crimes through th ...

Kroeger (2004) argues that it is an objective truth that government is usually less efficient than the private sector especially when in a price competitive environment. Morris (2011) argues that the public sector can be quite efficient when not handicapped by regulations designed to subsidize the private sector.
The debate of private sector versus public sector has raged for quite some time but the idea of privatization of prisons is relatively new to this debate. No one could deny that competition breeds efficiency in the typical sense that we think of in a free market economy but can we (should we) compare the sale of goods to the confinement and treatment of violent felons?
As you can see in the article "Overview: Trends in the Crime Control Industry," the trend is rapid growth of numbers in adults in private prisons and it does not appear that the trend will be going away.
Instructions
For this discussion, choose a position in favor of or in opposition to privatization of prisons. Research the topic and in your main post:
· Explain the rationale behind your position on privatization.
· Describe the basis for disagreement with the contrary position of privatization.
· Distinguish between working in a privatized prison and a government-run prison from the perspective of a corrections officer.

Introduction
Prisons are for confinement of defendants convicted of felonies and sentenced to more than 1 year of incarceration. All other felons, misdemeanants, and city ordinance violators that are sentenced to less than 1 year of confinement and those waiting arraignment go to a jail instead of a prison. Jails are typically run at the local level of government.
According to Minton and Zeng (2015), "The number of inmates confined in county and city jails was an estimated 744,600 at midyear 2014, which was significantly lower than the peak of 785,500 inmates at midyear 2008." They also noted that as of midyear 2014 whites were 47 percent, black’s 35 percent, and Hispanics 15 percent of the jail population.
California reduced its prison population and then had to turn right around and build more local jails to accommodate the former prisoners when they committed new offenses (Rubin, 2015). The jail building business has expanded to such an extent that the U.S. Department of Justice released a 24-page report on how to build community support for new jail construction (Elias, 2006).
Dodge City had Sheriff Matt Dillon; Miami, Florida had Crockett and Tubbs; and Maricopa County, Arizona has Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Obviously, the first two examples were television shows but you do see a lot of Sheriff Arpaio on television. Love him or hate him, he continues to win elections against considerable odds and stands his ground on issues that he believes in.

RE: Week 8 Discussion
Hello everyone,
In Europe, the impact and influence of organized crime within European Union has increased over the past fifteen years. Many non-European groups operate in Europe because it is a highly developed continent and has a high demand and money to provide illegal goods and services. Unlike other countries, these criminals do not specialize in anything specific, they operate by seeking opportunities where supply and demand warrant. In Asia, it is quite different. Corrupt governments and a geographical location between major drug producing regions place Asia at high risk for organized crime problems. One of the major issues/crimes in Asia, is kidnapping and human trafficking, and unfortunately many officials seen it as only smuggling and is not seen as a high priority in Asia, only because there was little to no coercion, the authorities do not take it seriously. Even though they agreed that the human trafficking was indeed organized, they did not believe it was a form of organized crime, because the operations were small in size. Fortunately, many countries saw organized crime as a real problem area and decided to establish different organizations to help combat organized crime and the groups who participate in these illegal activities. In 2003, the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime was implemented. In Canada, they opened an integrated operational center of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit/Integrated National Security Enforcement, which permits many agencies to work together and share information which helps agencies take down transnational organized crime. In Japan, a joint effort launched by the government agencies and private citizens came way where they shut down shops that were not legitimate and replaced them with businesses that were.

Slide 1
The role of law enforcement and police is to enforce the law and to provide community assistance.
Policing has had a rich and interesting history.
Vigilantism was represented as groups of residents whom were essentially authorized by the community, to enforce the law.
As vigilantism grew, members became a little bit better organized.
Vigilantes did take the law into their own hands by punishing and killing individuals suspected of crimes.
In the early 1700s, slave patrols represented the first publicly funded city police departments in the United States.
Their objective was to keep slaves from running away.
There were various slave codes in place that prohibited slaves from educating themselves and running away from their owners.
Sir Robert Peel was the first to establish an organized police department in England.
This was in response to the growing crime problem in London, which eventually led to the establishment of The London Metropolitan Police Department in 1829.
Policing developed in England and the United States followed suit shortly thereafter, with departments being increasingly controlled by government.
The United States adopted London's Police Department objectives by stopping crime through preventative patrols (patrolling the streets and keeping general order).
This idea of preventative patrol remains consistent in police activity today.
During the Political era of the 1840s through the1920s, the US began to see an influx of organized police departments.
The police’s role was to control order, provide various social services, and assist those in need.
Notwithstanding however, training was not commonplace.
During the Professional era beginning in the 1920s and extending through the 1970s, policing began to undergo major reform at all levels of government.
The objective was to encourage the police to be free from politi ...
Final Project Case StudyEthical dilemmas permeate the crimina.docxPOLY33
Final Project: Case Study
Ethical dilemmas permeate the criminal justice. At every level, in each segment of the system, people are exercising discretion that will impact on the fate of an individual and/or the security of the community. Incongruous laws, regulations, policies and practices create conflicts and distort the basis upon which judgments are made. Very often these conflicts result in an ethical dilemma. Which is the appropriate course of action? What is the moral/ethical rational for the decisions that were made? What purposes or principles are served? This project will ask you to consider a sequence of decisions (do, or not do) all of which contribute, directly or indirectly the final scene. For
each of the four (4) scenarios
, your assignment is to:
Examine each situation and describe the ethical and/or moral question,
Describe what you believe to be the motivation of the actor and the potential consequences of BOTH options,
Identify the decision you believe the actor SHOULD make, and
Provide the ethical basis for your decision.
NOTE: The scenarios are sequential. However, each decision must be considered separately and not be influenced by earlier decisions and/or actions. For instance, the decision to fund/not fund a new prison
does not
impact on a later decision to sentence a convicted felon to incarceration. The sentencing dilemma is independent.

1. The Parole Board
As the chair of the parole board, Robert knows the state prisons are critically overcrowded. Advocates are threatening the corrections system with Federal suits. One alternative is to broaden the parole eligibility criteria to allow more inmates to be released to community-based supervision. However, reviewing the current “risk assessment” results, Robert is concerned that any further relaxation of standards may result in the release of inmates more likely to re-offend than he considers “safe”. Robert just received a call from the Governor asking him what the parole board can do to ease the overcrowding that will be the basis of the federal law suits. The Governor reminds Robert that if these suits are successful, inmates will be released under a federal process outside the parole board’s control. What does Robert, as chair of the parole board, tell the Governor?
2. The Warden
William is the warden of a century-old correctional facility. Despite his best arguments, his operating budget was severely cut for the fiscal year that just started which eliminated overtime for correctional officers and froze hiring of replacement employees. Almost all of the rest of his budget is dedicated to food and medical services for inmates, and fixed utility costs. He was staffed for his average population (same as capacity population), but those numbers have skyrocketed due to an aggressive arrest and prosecute campaign. The facility is dangerously overcrowded with ...

Paper PromptSwing- From Verb to Noun is the title Leroi Jones g.docxloganta
Paper Prompt:
"Swing- From Verb to Noun" is the title Leroi Jones gives to his chapter on swing music in his 1963 book
Blues People
. In a 5-7 page paper, explore what Jones means by this formulation-- swing as a verb, as a noun, swing going from verb to noun-- and how he uses it to make arguments about music as an expression of race, capitalism, and power in the United States. Why is swing music such an apt style for this set of arguments? How does his formulation further the larger goals of his book? After your discussion of swing, discuss two other musical examples--styles, genres, specific artists/songs-- from Blues People or any of the other readings so far this semester, where we might apply Jones' formulation (bebop, rock, the career of Charles Mingus, etc). Lastly, do you think his formulation is still relevant to discussions of contemporary popular music?
In writing your essay, be sure to clearly state your thesis and to develop your argument with evidence clearly cited from the texts at hand. Papers will be evaluated on the strength of their arguments and the extent to which those arguments are developed and supported with properly cited textual evidence. You may refer to ideas presented in lecture, but these ideas cannot stand in for or replace your engagement with the readings. All papers must be proofread, spell-checked, double-spaced, and printed in an appropriate font and font size. For in-text citations and works cited, please follow MLA guidelines.

Page 1 Planning LTE Network Deployments Introduction LTE (Long Term Evolution) is the 4th Generation (4G) technology comprising of Evolved UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN) and Evolved Packet System (EPS) components. LTE brings speeds up to 300 Mbps for roaming users needing wireless access Internet. LTE is the next generation technology of the popular and widely deployed 3G technology UMTS, and is being developed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), a worldwide standards body comprising of service providers, equipment manufacturers, and R&D institutions. As the wireless access technology continues to evolve and become more flexible, planning and predicting performance of such networks becomes a challenging task. Often claims made in the popular media about the speed, scalability and reliability of the LTE networks are purely theoretical in nature, and the actual performance of these networks depends upon a myriad of factors. Understanding such factors and designing network deployments to achieve the maximal performance out of the given resources is indeed a critical task. In this lab exercise, we will study how OPNET Modeler/Guru can be used as a planning tool. We will use out-of-the-box reports, statistics, and other software tools to understand the network performance and how it relates to the LTE technology itself. Using planning workflows, we will optimize network parameters to achieve target objectives. The labs make use of OPNET Modeler/Guru, the Wireless module, and the specialized LTE model to perform this planning exercise. Lab 1: LTE Cell Planning Study Overview In this lab, we will deploy an LTE cell in OPNET Modeler/Guru and analyze how to determine and set the cell range. You will understand how interference can affect cell range. In the optional lab, we will study an “efficiency-based” workflow, in which setting certain attributes in the simulations and running them without the physical layer (efficiency mode) speeds up the simulation considerably. Your plan will follow the marketing plan outline illustrated in table 2.2 of your textbook and further described in Appendix 1: Sample Marketing Plan for Sonic, a fictional product. You will submit your Marketing Plan Term Project in two parts:
Part 1:
Analysis of the current situation (30 percent of final grade)
Part 2:
Marketing strategy, budgets, and controls (20 percent of final grade)
(Part 2 will also include an executive summary, all slides from Part 1, incorporation of feedback from your faculty member, all footnotes, and a bibliography.)
Your marketing plan will take the form of a PowerPoint Presentation. Tips for effective PowerPoint slide development can be found under Course Content in the online classroom. Be sure you have access to a recent version of PowerPoint or similar presentation software.
You will be graded on the following criteria (refer to grading rubrics for more detailed information):
the degree to which you demonstrate your ability to conduct relevant external research
the degree to which you demonstrate application of the marketing principles covered throughout the course
the degree to which you exhibit critical-thinking skills
the degree to which you present a professional final product
Marketing Plan Term Project Requirements
Step 1: Select a Product or Service.
Due: End of week 2 (check course schedule for specific due date)
You will select a company and one of its specific products or services, for which you will prepare a marketing plan. Submit your choice to your faculty member for approval no later than the end of week 1.
Your choice of a product or service is important. Here are some tips to help you select an appropriate product or service:
Select a consumer product or service that you or your family uses regularly. This will help give you insight into customer behaviors in the purchase decision and will also make it more interesting to work on because you like the product or service.
Do not
select an industrial or business-to-business good or service.
Select a product or service that is large enough to have something written about it or its industry. This will help you find industry trends and competitive information via library research.
Select a publicly held company’s product or service. Again, there is more information available that will bring depth to your analysis. You will need revenue data, market-share data, or other measures to compare against competitive offerings.
Stay with nationally known brand names so that your faculty member has some knowledge of your choice and therefore can be more helpful to you.
Select a product or service that has some competition.
Do not select a new product or serv.

Overview
In our study of poetry, we have discussed several key poetic elements such as rhythm, sounds and song. Formal Writing Assignment 3 is a critical thinking and information literacy project that will require you to make deeper connections between poetry and music.
Requirements
Access Online Sources
:
To begin, pick a song that you like. The song you pick should be chosen on the merits of its lyrics rather than its beat or musical accompaniment. The song, which
must be in English
, may contain a moderate amount of graphic language, and, if you choose, it may deal with controversial themes.
Locate the reliable lyrics to your song from an online source. A copy of the song lyrics must be attached to your completed paper. If your song has been covered by many different artists, please identify which version you are discussing in your paper, and make sure that the lyrics you attach correspond accordingly.
Analyze
(at least 400 words):
Once you have picked your song, you are to analyze it as a piece of poetry in a well-organized essay of
at least
four paragraphs. As the analysis depends on it, your paper should also include some quotations from the song. Because you will be quoting text from the chosen song, you will also need to include a Works Cited page. Examine the song through the scope of some of the following poetic elements:
Persona
Voice (Irony, Tone)
Diction
Allusion
Imagery
Rhythm
Sound (Rime, Alliteration/Assonance, etc.)
Symbols
Figures of speech
Denotation/connotation
Type of poetry (i.e., lyric, narrative, etc.)
Reflect
(at least 150 words):
Your analysis should have identified and explained what elements qualify your song to be appreciated as a poem. Here, however, I would like for you to reflect upon which parts of the song’s power come from the words and which come from the music and/or artist performance. Does an examination of the words alone fail to recreate the total power of the original song – why or why not?
Things to Remember
All papers for this class should adhere to MLA format. A Works Cited page is required.
Do not forget to give your paper a title.
Do not include a cover sheet. At the top of the first page simply write a header consisting of your name, the date and our course and section names.
The song that I have chosen for this assignment is Rolling in the Deep by Adele.

Discussion board 2

Methodology • Use the wireless network wizard to deploy an LTE network • Understand how to find and set up the range of the LTE cell • Understand how interference affects the cell range Understand how to speed up the LTE simulations for planning studies intended for large networks (optional/take home lab) Part I 1. How to write successful essays for History 1302
Different Types of Essays
In your history courses you might write different types of essays.
Most of them involve description of events, discussion of ideas, summarization of information, and analysis or evaluation.
Analysis might involve classifying, comparing and contrasting, explaining causes and effects, exploring a topic's history, or describing a process.
Or, you might be asked to write an essay that explains the effects of something: the effects of a war, of a law, of a social movement.
Sometimes you may need to take a stan.
OverviewGlobal organizations have branches that are located .docxloganta
Overview
Global organizations have branches that are located in multiple countries. Some of these organizations develop software and take advantage of the global talent pool of software developers while others have global technical support teams, customer service, and so on. Virtual teams are created when two or more people work together from different locations, organizations, times zone, or time shifts. Global organizations use virtual teams to provide global support, reduce travel costs, reduce training costs, and take advantage of local cultural knowledge that may impact the organization’s operations.
Instructions
Write a 2–3 page paper in which you:
Examine five issues that the IT department is likely to face when it comes to supporting virtual teams.
Describe five advantages and five disadvantages of using virtual teams for the organizations described in the scenario.
Describe the challenges imposed by:
IT/IS national standards and propose how they could be handled or resolved.
Protocols and propose how they could be handled or resolved.
Procedures on virtual teams and propose how they could be handled or resolved.
Compare and contrast virtual teams and traditional teams with respect to communications, technology use, and team diversity.

OverviewOver the course of the semester you will prepare a m.docxloganta
Overview
Over the course of the semester you will prepare a marketing plan that will demonstrate your ability to apply marketing concepts to a real-world product or service. This assessment is in lieu of a final examination and was designed to measure your performance on all course learning outcomes.
OverviewIn our study of poetry, we have discussed several key po.docxloganta

OverviewIn this project you will implement a server for the Purdue.docxloganta
Overview
In this project you will implement a server for the Purdue Safe Walk Program. The server you are going to write will handle requests and commands sent from the user.
Safe Walk is a campus safety system (currently done manually) that allows people on campus to request that someone walk with them from one location to another on campus. For more details, refer to
this document
.
Definitions
Here are some definitions and terms that will be used throughout this project.
Locations
A location is a building in Purdue campus. A location is identified by a unique acronym. First, for simplicity, the following
locations
will be defined in the system:
CL50
: Class of 1950 Lecture Hall
EE
: Electrical Engineering Building
LWSN
: Lawson Computer Science Building
PMU
: Purdue Memorial Union
PUSH
: Purdue University Student Health Center
*
: Any one of the location above
You may think of
*
as a wildcard that matches with
any
of the first five locations.
As you will see later, a user message will contain two locations,
FROM
and
TO
. Locations not on the list above will be considered invalid.
User
A user is anyone who sends content to the server.
Requester
A requester is a user who asks for help (instead of sending commands). Again, as you will find later, not all users are requesters.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of file I/O operations.
Knowledge of
Java List API
.
Objectives
Understand and use the
Java Socket API
to implement an
iterative
server.
More specifically,
java.net.ServerSocket
for a socket-based server program.
Understand the similarities between files and sockets.
Learn to implement a basic, text-based server-client protocol.
Learn to write exhaustive JUnit tests.
Learn to use simple network utilities
telnet
and netcat (
nc
).
Specifications
Now you are going to write your own server program.
Command-Line Arguments
Name your program
SafeWalkServer
. To run it, use the command
java SafeWalkServer
port
where the
port
argument should be an integer between
1025
and
65535
inclusive. If the
port
argument is given but invalid,
print
an error message (any meaningful message) and exit gracefully. If the
port
argument is not provided, your program should use a port that is automatically allocated, in which case you must print this port number to stdout before the server starts
accept
ing requests. For example,
Port not specified. Using free port 8888.
where
8888
is the port allocated automatically. Note that 8888 is just an example.
If the port is already used (the constructor of ServerSocket will throw an exception). Print an error message and exit gracefully.
Class Constructors
Your
SafeWalkServer
should have two constructors corresponding to the situations where port may or may not be given.
Finish these two methods:
/**
* Construct the server, and create a server socket,
* bound to the specified port.

OverviewIf there is one important lesson you can learn as social s.docxloganta
Overview
If there is one important lesson you can learn as social scientists it is this: historical events never appear in isolation, but instead, are connected to previous events. In this assignment, you are going to construct a timeline in which you show how different events of the women's movement are interconnected.
For example, could you imagine the federal approval of the pill in 1960 without the previous ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920? To what extent did the 19th century writings of Susan B Anthony influence the 1960s work of Betty Friedan or Gloria Steinem? Did women's decade-long involvement in the abolitionist movement influence other causes that women fought for after slavery was abolished? The questions you can ask are endless!
Assignment
This assignment comes in two parts.
Part 1: Create a timeline that covers at least four major events of the women's movement. These do not necessarily have to be from the 1960s, and they can be within a relatively short timeframe (spanning just a few years), or a very long time frame (spanning a couple of centuries). It is entirely up to you! You can find templates for timelines online, or you create your own timeline in Word (Click on Insert, choose Illustrations, SmartArt for templates).
Part 2: Write a brief, 300-500 word commentary that explains how each of these four events that you have mentioned in your timeline is interrelated. In this commentary, you may write about how one event led into the next, and so on, or you may write about how one very significant event led to the other three. The way that you describe the interrelatedness of these events is up to you, but you must demonstrate that you understand how interconnected they are.

Over 600,000 Americans lost their lives in the Civil War, with the Northern troops suffering higher losses. The North believed the sacrifice was worth it; the slaves were freed, and the Union was preserved. The South, on the other hand, began almost immediately to glorify the lost cause. They turned their generals into mythic heroes and looked wistfully back at the antebellum period. They almost regretted surrendering.
Historian Shelby Foote said,
Any understanding of this nation has to be based…on an understanding of the Civil War . . . The Civil War defined us as what we are, and it opened us to being what we became, good and bad things. It is very necessary if you’re going to understand the American character in the 20th century to learn about this enormous catastrophe of the mid-19th century. It was the crossroads of our being.

a 1,400-word paper in which you answer the following questions:
What do you think Foote meant in the quoted passage? How does the Civil War define Americans?
If the Southern generals like Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson were so brilliant, and if the South lost fewer men than the North, why did the North win the war?

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

RE: Week 4 Discussion 1
From the first e-Activity, examine the ACA Code of Ethics and
choose two (2) of the codes that you believe both the state and
federal prison system should adhere to the most stringently.
Determine whether or not adherence to the ACA Code of Ethics
should be based on the prison security type (i.e., maximum,
medium, or minimum). Provide a rationale for your response.
1 Members shall respect and protect the civil and legal
rights of all individuals.
Inmates are still people and deserve to be treated with dignity
and respect. They still have civil and legal rights and it is part
of the correctional facility's job to ensure all individuals,
inmates and staff, are treated safely and within the law.
1 Members shall treat every professional situation with
concern for the welfare of the individuals involved and with no
intent to personal gain.
3. Correctional facilities should strive for professionalism in all
situations and ensure that their staff acts professional. Prisons
can be dangerous and inmates can act out and be disrespectful
on a regular basis. This can make the environment stressful and
cause staff to react in unprofessional ways. Regardless of the
situation, all staff should act professional and ensure the
welfare of all individuals. This includes not acting on behalf of
themselves for personal gain.
The adherence to the ACA Code of Ethics should be for all
prison types, not just based on the prison security type. Any
type of correctional facility can be at risk for failing to uphold
the ACA Code of Ethics whether it is a minimum or maximum
security facility. Any facility can be dangerous and prone to
ethical violations, therefore all staff should uphold these ethics
to ensure the best possible outcome for safety, honestly,
respect, and dignity for all staff and inmates.
From the second e-Activity, evaluate the effectiveness of the
special restrictions imposed on serious terrorist in relation to
the elimination of the radicalization of other prisoners housed
in supermax facilities. Provide a rationale for your response.
Some of the special restrictions put on serious terrorists and
violent criminals are closely monitored mail, only allowed a
few visits, and the inmates are kept in solitary confinements.
However, FBI director Robert S. Mueller III told the House
Judiciary Committee that he has concerns about terrorists being
housed in prisons with US citizens. Some of his concerns are
the potential to finance terrorists, radicalizing others to violent
extremism, and the potential for individuals undertaking attacks
in the United States. Furthermore, there are inmates in our
prison system that are still able to manage the operation of their
gang from inside prison walls. These are all very real concerns
when it comes to housing terrorists in US prisons. I do not
4. believe that the special restrictions imposed on terrorists will
always be able to work when it comes to eliminating the
radicalization of other prisoners in supermax facilities. Inmates
have proven time and again that they can find ways around the
system, such as, escaping, turning guards to their favor, rioting,
and overtaking a prison to name a few. Where there is a will
there is a way, so I personally believe terrorists should be kept
separate from the US prison populations.

RE: Week 4 Discussion 2
•Identify the key factors that make policing and adjudicating
transnational crime so difficult. Suggest one (1) strategy that a
policing organization could utilize to address at least one (1) of
these factors. Provide a rationale for your response.
It is very difficult to police and adjudicate transnational crimes
because it involves more than one country. If someone smuggles
drugs from Cuba to the United States it involves the drug
trafficking from Cuba but also the crime of possessing it in the
U.S. So now the question is which country has jurisdiction of
the crime. Cuban laws could not be as harsh as the United
States. The individual could get a break or walk free. I believe
if everyone came to an agreement that the crime should be
prosecuted where it ended. They can do the leg work from there.
I feel there is too much involved with sending the individual
back to where the crime started and prosecuting them there.
That not only cost money but also time. They would have to be
escorted everywhere and watched until they are in the custody
of someone else.
•From the e-Activity, imagine you are the police chief being
questioned in the video. Determine the degree to which the
traffic stops initiated would constitute police corruption. Give
an example of a policy that you would implement as chief in
order to combat corruption. Provide support for your rationale.
7. After watching the video I agree with the police chief that as
long as it is a legal traffic stop then they can say what they
would like. You can persuade individuals to search their
vehicles. Everything starts with a legal traffic stop. If he is just
pulling over cars because he thinks they are suspicious or
possibly have drug money then he should be investigated. There
is a fine line between what is legal and digging for something
because you want inside the vehicle. I think cameras are the
best idea for this. We just started getting body cameras last year
at my department. Complaints went down and if one came in our
Chief can look into it further to see if it is valid. This applies to
individuals that are being pulled over for no reason. Once the
lights are activated the camera is as well. If this occurred I
again agree with the chief that he is investigating it further with
that officer. He can help fix the problem from occurring in the
future and not having the officer look terrible in court or give
their department a bad name as a whole.
