Our journey, searching for different ways and truer answers... to learn more, to experience more, to dream more, to live better, to become all that we hope and dream of becoming
It's only when a man tames his own demons that he becomes the king of himself if not of the world. Joseph Campbell. Follow your bliss, follow your passion, follow your heart. We are each and every one here for a reason, we have a purpose, we have passion, we have potential and we have power. Our journey is to embrace all of this and in so doing we save ourselves, we live fully and we save the world. We are creative beings and our purpose is regeneration. To embrace our creative potential means we face certain challenges and follow a certain path to self mastery. Is there a formula for self-mastery? You create your own "open" formula, break the rules and live by your own rules. Your adventure is one of passion to performance. The 3 stages of this hero's journey are: departure, initiation and return. The stages can be addressed using different models. The 7 step model encompasses challenges related to identity, comfort zone, mentor, gatekeepers, contrast/paradox, the ultimate boon and letting go / moving on. The larger model includes: ordinary world, call to adventure, refusing the call, exceptional aid, crossing the first threshold, belly of the whale, road of trials, embracing your passion, ego temptations, atonement with potential, nirvana, the ultimate boon, refusal of boon, magical flight, saviors to one and all, crossing the return threshold, master of two worlds, freedom to live in power. This slideshow is part of my blog and workshop series as well as one to one coaching with clients of Creative Change Coaching. No matter what you define as your goal, this is our monomyth and therefore the path we follow.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
